Submitted by Leigh85 on Sun, 2014-05-04 20:32Hi all,
trying to figure out what braid I should get tossing up between
Tuf Line XP
Fins Original PRT
Power Pro
or Rovex
does any one have any experiences (bad or good) with either of these or even any other suggestions?

Can crays get out of pots?
Submitted by C.P on Sun, 2014-05-04 15:49How effectively are crays trapped when they enter pots? Some say they can come & go as they please. Some say they find it pretty hard to get back out. What are your thoughts, are they likely to stay there if there's bait remaining?

Alvey reel
Submitted by Ziggy_Cosmo on Sun, 2014-05-04 14:28 Hi all wondering if I can gain some info on a second hand Alvey 50 A17 reel that i have bought, it measures 5inches on the stainless side and I have ideas of using it as part of a surf outfit partnered up with a 3.2m Gladiator XOskeleton rod, would this suit? If not not I could easily be talked into buying a bigger surf rod
as I'm planning on doing a lot more beach fishing in the near future. Is this model Alvey intended for beach fishing? Also wanting to spool it with braid, have used Fireline previously on surf outfits, would this be ok for an Alvey, and what pound line would be best? Will be fishing for salmon, tailor and of course mulloway and would need to handle the odd small shark or ray. Google searching hasn't provided much insight into this reel so any info would be appreciated. Never used Alvey reels before and I'm keen to learn how and catch my first fish with one.
Here's a few pics to help give a clear picture of the reel- Cheers.

Yesterday's catch
Submitted by glack on Sun, 2014-05-04 10:59Went out yesterday afternoon to pull my pots and a quick fish. Funnily we got as many fish in an hour as what I have been getting in a whole day lately which was nice.
what got me though was that I pulled two pots on the same stretch of reef about 100 metres apart. One had 17 crays, the other had 1! Looking at those figures I would say it was just about definitely raided. I don't want to be a dickhead and get all worked up about it, I got a feed and shit happens. if anyone out there does need to pull other people's pots there is not much that can be done to stop them but it would be really nice if they could catch a couple of wrasse and top up the bait so the owner still had a chance of catching a few. Thanks.

Metro Salmon
Submitted by cell on Sat, 2014-05-03 21:49Hi guys managed to go for a fish last night with family, was good to go out and not get into any strife (car was left alone)
.
Anyway headed off to port beach i think it is, might be leightons, anyway its the beach to north of north mole always get confused for some reason, anyway fished till about 11 and scored a stray but 87cm salmon about 6kg (father in law caught) i threw out a tailor for bait. He got smashed after 20 mins in the water not sure if shark or mullaway but had half a fish left and had a few bite marks near head. sorry no photos not that good.
All in all was a good night father in law scored his first ever salmon and we managed 3 herring other then that very quiet but nice and peacefull sitting down watching boats n listening to waves.
Definately going back again maybe a tad earlier im sure there was a few more salmon but the bites were very gentle and fast couldnt even feel them most of the time

Submitted by randall df223 on Sat, 2014-05-03 16:52Off to Steep Point next weekend (Yay!)
Taking a cray pot. Hope to catch some western rock lobsters. (Yum yum). I expect I may also get some painted crays. If I have room in my bag limit (highly likely) are they worth keeping?

Exmouth after last storm
Submitted by ctan1968 on Sat, 2014-05-03 08:12Hello all,
How is Exmouth currently with regard to the water condition and the state of the boat ramps, especially Tantabiddi? Its been about a week since the last down pour and was wondering what the situation is like. Are boats launching/retreiving? Have the inshore waters cleaered?
I am told that there is another heavy load expected Sun/Mon so don't know what to expect when I go up a week after (12th May).
Thanks in advance
Chris

I have seen a YouTube video on how to spool the mainline. But how do you know if you need to put on backing? And if I need backing what knot do you recommend?

Shark Bay - Pinky Kill Zones
Submitted by mikey- on Fri, 2014-05-02 17:57Just a quick question in regard to a few places you can neck Pinkies in Shark Bay.
From what I was aware, and from the info I can find online, in the Freycinet Estuary Pinkies can only be taken by anglers who got tags in the lottery system.
Although I have recently been told that due to high stocks in the area this rule has been changed slightly and anglers can take a bag from this area. I can't find info to support this though.
Any help would be great, cheers :)
