Narrows??
Submitted by Jeffree on Wed, 2012-05-02 12:44 hey guys.
Just wondering if there have been any reports of tailor in the swan around the narrows area or along mounts bay road?
I finish Uni at 5:00pm today, and i just want to avoid the city traffic, so i thought i might chuck a few lures around.
Also anyone who wants to join is more than welcome.
Karratha questions
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Wed, 2012-05-02 09:09Got a few Karratha questions:
What tidal range is the lowest for being able to get in at the back beach (town ramp?) - as in, when it start to get to 1m its time to be at the ramp etc?
Is it worth 'trying' and paying to become a member of Nickol Bay GFC (if nominated etc) to use the private ramp in Dampier?
I have a Minn Kota on my tinny and can't decide if it will get used up there in the creeks etc or if its just better using the motor for trolling?
Can you go netting for mullet anywhere (set net) (apart from creeks etc) or is it a bit of a frowned on practice up there? Love sitting down for a beer and playing with the dog whilst getting bait down here.
Without looking at any DEC maps, are there any no-go zones, sanctuaries etc, the pipeline? Whats the go with the ships in transit, just stay well clear?
Cheers,
Adam

Shark fishing from shore
Submitted by dikfeld on Tue, 2012-05-01 21:18Hey guys just wondering if anyone here does a lot of shark fishing from the shore?
I've always wanted to try my hand at catching some sharks from the beach, I have a place at seabird so was thinking heading out along the coast between seabird and legde and kayaking a few baits out see what happens at sunset and into the night... Done alot of research into it and know all the set up etc but anyone got ideas on a new reel? Strongest reel i've got atm is a shimano tekota 800...
Anyway just wondering if anyone has any luck trying to catch sharks from shore, any info or advice would be awesome!
Cheers,
Richard

egi rods?
Submitted by Webby on Tue, 2012-05-01 00:36I was just wondering if someone could tell me what the benifit of an egi rod is? and what makes a good one? From my experience squid are very agressive and will attack jigs on any type of retreive so i couldn't see them being extra usefull in inparting a particular action? also Squid jigs are not heavy so comfort in flicking all day would not be the concern. so im not sure if im missing something here but i cant for the life of me think of a reason why I would need to fork out 200+ on a dedicated squid rod. please shed some light
Cheers

Error when posting pics on site
Submitted by dkonig82 on Sun, 2012-04-29 20:46Just wondering if anybody has had this issue when posting pics on the site before?
"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 83886080 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3456 bytes) in /home/fishwrec/public_html/includes/image.gd.inc on line 190"
I thought it might have been due to the size of the image, but I posted the image in a thread no probs. The issue only happens when I try to add an individual image.

4 days at parry beach for 1 samon...grrrrrr
Submitted by fisho-ron on Sun, 2012-04-29 18:46hi guys
well what can i say thats not in the heading?????
The wife, my son blake, grandaughter summer and myself packed up the new camper for the mayden voyage and off we go, i am
excited to say the least, new camper, break from work and oh boy the samon!!!! gunna be great!
we get there at about 11am on wed morn and set up camp, i crab my rods and straight to the beach, this goes on every morn and every arvo for 2-3 hours each go, for nothing.....and i mean nothing at all besides some small sandies.
no one is catching anything and there is alot of people trying, a small roumour goes around the camp of a samon getting caught at friday lunchtime???????
im thinking to myself, what alot of crap...there is no fish here at all.
i keep trying many differant spots around the place at many differant beaches for f...all!
with hopes fadding fast, i give it another go on sat morn, few more bites on the small rods with some more sandies coming in,
nothing on the big stuff, so i chuck on a sandie and let it soak while fishing with the small rods and finally it happens!!!
my one and only samon for the trip, back to camp a few hours later for a quick pic and then i donated the samon to another camping family, cause we all know they taste like shit....lol
then the stories fly around the campsite like wild fire and all of a sudden everyone was asking me where i got it....i felt like a star!!!!!
anyway here is a couple of pics from our trip, still beats working.
our first stop along the way (smoke break for the wife, no smoking in the car)
summers first attempt at rock fishing
our campsite
blake leaving his mark while getting bored with no samon
myself trying at another spot (elephant rocks)
the one and only samon i got and seen for the whole time.

LB Lure size?
Submitted by buschy on Sun, 2012-04-29 18:18Hey folks,
I'm fairly new to fishing with lures (HBs, metals) and as I slowly catch more fish, I'm gradually getting more confident in using them as a genuine alternative to bait - particularly when conditions make lure the sensible choice.
With a 2-4kg Dropshot, I find I'm limited to lures 15g and less. Anything bigger seems to be just a little bit too much strain on the rod. I typically choose a 10g baitfish - absolutely love this size lure as it seems to cast and respond like a dream. I've caught fish of all sizes - tiny gobbleguts, blowies, the little stargazer yesterday - through to a 45cm tailor.
Last year, the lads flicking lures at Yeagarup for Salmon could not get into anything on the 30g lures, but dropping to 15g seemed to improve results drastically.
I get the distinct impression that I am better off staying small - as it seems the larger fare do not seem to be put off and are happy to pursue a small flash of metal. In fact, a lot of research into the stomach contents of larger fish will validate this - as even some monsters seem to prefer to snack on little bite size shads and baitfish.
Just wandering what other LB Fisho's have to say on the matter...whether they have more success chucking out larger varieties of metals - or more joy on the smaller lures?
Cheers,
Buschy
