was going fishing tomorrow until...................
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Tue, 2012-04-24 15:29breathe.........
ok so not a good story but i have stopped, taken a few deep breaths and am all good now -
chugging down the river to Aquarama to get some well priced (not!) diesel for tomorrow, 4 of us heading over to Rotto and coming back Friday - beer, bait and food packed - everyone pretty stoked to be heading over for some good weather - just as we headed around point walter an almighty thump and big cloud of smoke out the back -not sure what we hit - (was in deep water) prop is fked and shaft is bent ........ limped home on port -packed everything up and was sat at home feeling really sh1 tty until i read a story on one of the ANZACS this arvo, yes am sure you have all read these before but here I am jacked off about missing a fishing trip and these poor blokes who were so young and missed out on "life" so that we could go fishing! -kinda puts things in perspective...
So i am going to the dawn service instead! -sorry if this is a bit of waffle - just feeling rather good now about a rather bad situation :-)
To any diggers on the forum who read this -sincerely, thanks alot guys :-)
cheers

Submitted by Jeffree on Mon, 2012-04-23 20:16hi guys.
Anyone go a spare hour to make some money? i got this table i need dismantled and thrown into a skip. got the skip just outside the warehouse. just a few nuts and bolts to undo. then carry the scrap 15m to the skip. don't care how its done (smash it, undo bolts). need it done by thurs night. $40 B.Y.O tools. shouldn't take more than 1 hour. location MALAGA. (all the shit will be cleared off the table already) would do it myself, just have no time with exams and assignments.

Advice on popper/stickbait rod
Submitted by GusG on Mon, 2012-04-23 18:45Was wanting to get some opinions on the old style monster mesh rods as I have to opportunity to get one second hand. I have the opportunity to pick up a Monster Mesh 8'3" PE6-8 rod. I want it to chuck some poppers and stickbaits around for kings, etc. I would match it to a Stella 10,000.
a) do you think it is a good match for the reel
b) I know the rods are good for poppers but are they soft enough to work stickbaits as well.
If you have owned one or played around with one please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

Opinions on the new Daiwa Catalina
Submitted by jay91 on Mon, 2012-04-23 16:24hey Iv been on the look for a new reel and have my heart set on the Daiwa Catalina 4000.
But as its only been recently released in Australia, I havent heard much about them.
So just wondering if anyone has one or can give me an honest opinion of what they think?
Also is there must of a difference in size of a 5000 compared to a 4000?
I went down to tackle world world today to have a play but they oonly had the 4000 model.
Just to add, its going to be matched with a samuria 206 running PE4.
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks

Does anyone know when they will be bringing in the Perth FADS? If no one has an exact date around when do they usually bring them in?
Also if anyone has an update on which fads no longer exist. I heard the PGFC is long gone

what rod for a saltiga game???
Submitted by TROOPY on Mon, 2012-04-23 07:21hey lads just after a bit of info on what rod i should get for my saltiga game 3500 reel?
necer had a reel before of this quality so dont knoiw what is the best for it.
mainly gonna be using it off the beach flicking lures and softies round, chasing salmon down south and anything off the beaches up north.
was looking at the shimano catana 9ft shore rod, but think that it might be a bit "cheap" for this quality of reel.
any info would be very helpful.
cheers

At the local Tip
Submitted by aalfred on Sun, 2012-04-22 19:06I moved house over the last 2 days. So today I had to drive to the tip in balcatta to drop of some rubbish.
When I arrived there I spotted a forklift load of fish!!!!!!!!!! There must have been 6 or 7 boxes of "fish on ice" on a forklift on the way in the dump. I think it was red emperor/ coral trout. I couldnt get close enough in time to get a pic or see exactly what it was. I just saw a heap of red fish in about snapper size going over the side!!!!
I can not believe how ppl can waste that amount of fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They empty the oceans and then throw it in the dumpster
And because of behavior like this from commercial fisheries we as rec.fisher have to suffer!
What a society!!!!!!!!

Bunbury/South West Kayak fishing
Submitted by Crikko on Sun, 2012-04-22 15:19Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to take my kayak out to have a bit of fun on wednesday? I've finally got my fishfinder installed and will be ready to go, no GPS yet though.
I've heard peppy beach about 1-2km off is going alright, but not sure where I'd launch from there. Got a 4x4 hilux, so beach launching is not a problem, but I'm trying not to go too far from home in Bunno (got a 7 week old baby at home, and only got a few hours leave pass).
Any Salmon being caught I could try trolling for?
Cheers!

First Shark
Submitted by dazza336 on Sun, 2012-04-22 15:03Well spent Saturdau]y fishing at Pardoo with no luck so headed back to Finucane Sunday morning to fish off the rocks managed to catch a 6-7foot black tip reef shark well I
think it was as it had a black tip right on top of the fin. It did a massive run of about 200metres and then seemed pretty easy to reel in except for the odd head shake and small run.
Anyone know if these are any good eating?
I cut the line when I got him to the rocks as I didnt bring my knife with me and didnt know size requirements etc

Buffalo Bream!
Submitted by harry_davis on Sun, 2012-04-22 10:48Hey Guys
i went fishing yesterday down at the rock-wall in hillarys boat harbour, used some bread to burley up and up came some massive buffalo bream. which the biggest had to be around 5kgs, so i squished the loaf into little balls training them to take hook sized baits not crumbs, which worked
i had a 12lb fluro carbon leader with 15lb braid, as soon as the bread sank to where they was line started peeling off the reel, for about a min, then he busted me off...
they were all wary to take bait after that moment and all the big buffys swam away :/
i was wondering would 12lb be enough of a leader, and would a mono main-line be better than braid???
cheers

Just after any ideas people have on spooling reels, i have both braid and mono in bulk reels and say i want to put 500m braid on a reel and 200m top shot of mono is there any relatively accurate way of measuring it out or is it just a guessing game?
Any help appreciated
