Chasing Marlin, Yellowfin and Wahoo on Sunday - free spots available
Submitted by soupster51 on Tue, 2012-02-14 17:02I'm heading out on Sunday chasing Marlin, Yellowfin and Wahoo. Planning to stop in a special spot to jig for dogtooth and huge coral trout as well. Might even spend half an hour casting for big GTs if the wind is right. Spots open for three people. I'm supplying all the gear (jigs, lures, lunch, fuel, etc). All you have to do is meet me at the boat at 0600. The first three people to get in touch are in. Let me know if you're keen.

Ocean Reef Marina nearer to reality
Submitted by Colin Hay on Tue, 2012-02-14 13:59Ocean Reef Marina nearer to reality
Portfolio: Premier
- Premier participates in official MOU signing with City of Joondalup
- Proposed site incorporates existing Ocean Reef Boat Harbour
- State Govt encouraging infrastructure development to strengthen communities
The proposed marina will incorporate the existing Ocean Reef Boat Harbour and provide a permanent home to Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group.
“The State Government encourages development of infrastructure projects that strengthen the economic and social well being of communities,” Mr Barnett said.
“By developing this marina, the City of Joondalup will be helping provide a balance of residential, recreational, commercial and public amenities to service the community and to attract local and outside visitors.
“The marina will also become permanent home to the Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group which is one of the busiest in Western Australia, performing up to 300 rescues every year.”
The Premier said Ocean Reef MLA Albert Jacob, who attended the signing today, had been instrumental in bringing the planned project to its current stage.
“Albert Jacob campaigned at the 2008 State Election to push for redevelopment of the harbour into what will become Ocean Reef Marina and I congratulate him for his advocacy in this issue which is vital to progress in the northern suburbs,” he said.
The MoU agrees to a collaborative approach for the Ocean Reef Marina Project between the State Government and the City of Joondalup, in particular producing a structure plan to be developed by the city. A supporting business case will then facilitate the project’s progression.
Fact File
- Site incorporates Ocean Reef Boat Harbour, between Swanson Way and Resolute Way
- Proposed development footprint (about 91.5ha - 57.88 land, 33.61 reclaimed/marine)
- Approx. land tenure: State Govt 47 per cent; Water Corp 6 per cent; City of Joondalup 47 per cent

Help with Swan River Fishing Locations
Submitted by vitalida on Tue, 2012-02-14 12:35Hi all, this is my first post. I'm looking for yellowfin whiting, flathead and bream in the river. I'm a bit of a river novice but have caught (in the past) some good fish of all of these species down Pt Walter way. I'm not having any luck at all though. Can someone please help with where I should be trying for these fish? Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks for reading, David.

4 mile and 8 mile confusion
Submitted by Brad Y on Tue, 2012-02-14 08:23Where abouts are the 4 mile and 8 mile reefs in Geographe Bay measured from. Been looking on navionics and any general area that I find that looks like the 4 and 8 mile reefs are more like 5 and 6 nautical miles respectively. Am I getting the units confused between nautical and regular miles or are the names close but not quite 100% accurate?

Jurien Bay Trip?
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Tue, 2012-02-14 08:09Hi people
Planning a Jurien/Greenhead trip soon and just after some advice because i've got pretty little understanding about this area. I've read the best time to travel up there is around March/April/May. is this correct? Also, how do you monitor the weather there because it would be pretty pointless heading there for the weekend and its blowing its nuts off.
Possibly going with 3 mates and 3 big boats (22' glass, 26' glass, 26' abcat ) so is there a decent marina/ ramp there?
Also, is it advisable to have some sort of tarp over the bow of the boat to protect it from small rocks being thrown up?
I've read about fishing so that areas covered.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Shimano Tcurve Travel series - anyone else using?
Submitted by Jelle on Tue, 2012-02-14 08:02Hi guys,
anyone got a Tcurve travel from shimano? How do you like it?
I already got a raider II travel 8-10kg rod and for the price, it is really a nice rod. Tcurve should be slightly better still and I'm thinking on getting a 10-15kg.

Nirey nife sharpeners..
Submitted by chookc on Mon, 2012-02-13 20:37Does anyone use one of these total knife care nirey elec tric knife sharpeners..
Thinking about getting the professional model to use occasionly at home and for the fishing knives..
I know they may well were out a knife a lot quicker but I do not have the time patience or skill to sharpen my knives the old fashioned way of the stone..
These combined with a good quality steel seem the go..
Pros cons and thoughts on this model or others out in the market place...

12 volt fridges worth it?
Submitted by Oracle on Mon, 2012-02-13 15:30Hi all,
I've been looking for a little while but never seriuosly at getting a 12 volt fridge for the boat as a second eskie for the 3 day weekends, family days or even just dawn to dusk cool drinks thing and saw that Hooty just sold one on this site.
does anyone have any they use? Worth the money? are the cheaper ones nasty and not worth the head ache and if you plug it into the boat (granted I have two batteries), will it suck the life out of them and will it handle the abuse a boat in a southerly sometimes gives it?
I already run two eskies with one for fish adn one for drinks/food when away but not dealing with ice on the second one would be nice - or would it?
Cheers

Assembling Sea Martin drag system washers - correct order????
Submitted by kremakarisma on Mon, 2012-02-13 05:57Hi, is there any one who could give me the right order for reassembling the components of my Sea Martin drag. I have just got back into fishing after a few years of ill health and got out the trusty old Sea Martin and decided to strip it down (not the sealed section with the gearing etc) and give it a good "old grease and oil change"! Alas I have absolutely no idea of the order to replace the drag components. I hope someone can help. Thanx.

Which soft plastic for bream?
Submitted by BigDunc on Sun, 2012-02-12 18:57Hey Fishos,
I'm trying to refine my style. Instead of chucking a prawn to the middle of the river and waiting, I've been observing structure, watching the other guys around me and reading up on river fishing for black bream wherever I can. Bought my first decent rod today, a 6 foot Shimano with reel rated 2 - 4kg, put 3kg Platypus mono on and had a flick around the river this arvo. Never used such light gear before but was amazed at how far and how accurate the casts could get.
Was wondering, could anyone recommend a size, name and or model of soft plastic for chasing black bream or a hard body or anything else for that matter.
Much appreciation for any help,
Dunc.
