Certate Vs Stradic

 G`day boys

Trying to decide on a SP dermersal jigging reel capable of flicking HB around the snags up north for Barra as well

Can`t decide between the Stradic ci 4000 and certate 10 3000 ???

have used the shimano with great results and haven`t heard a bad report as yet

As for the Certate never used one so cant comment

Any input  For and Against either reels will be appreciated.

Cheers Boomer

Mono or Braid

 Hey lads,

I'm sure you have seen a few posts like this but i want some more opinions on what you guys prefer over braid or mono?

On all my reels at the moment I use braid, but am thinking of going to mono for a change. The only thing that stops me from using mono is the line thickness.

What do you guys think on braid and mono?

CATALINA 4500 vs TWINPOWER SW 8000

Hey guys,
Im in the market for a new reel, its primary uses will be a bit of sambo jigging and also casting stickbaits and poppers

Im undecided between and Catalina or Twinpower, and whether the Twinpower is worth the extra few dollars

Specs
CATALINA 4500            -- Ratio - 5.1 --Max Drag 10kg - Bearing 9+1
TWINPOWER SW 8000 --Ratio - 5.6 -- Max Drag 25kg - Bearings 10+1

The Catalina would be more suited for jigging with the lower ratio, would the Twinpower be fine for jigging especially as it has more stopping power.

The Reel will be matched with a Daiwa Saltist Demon blood 762X Pe 5-6 for casting
And then swapped to a PE4-6 jigging rod yet to be purchased

I'd assume the Shimano would come with a spare spool but i am uncertain about the catalina????
Also how does the actual size of the reels compare??

Any inputs guys and girls would be much appreciated

There are too many choices in the fishing world

Cheers Duffman

what size sinkers do you use at e shed

hi every1,i was thinking about going down to e shed to maybe have a go in the near future for mulloway, but was thinking what size sinkers to use on my rig to hold in the current,i know i was thinking around 4 oz star sinker but i thought it might be a little light to hold in the currents

Tairyo Rods

anyone heard of or used one?

i bought one a month ago (1-3kg) and matched it with my 1000 ci4 stradic.

i was more than impressed with it, and with the new nano technology, it was virtualy unbreakable. i put it through quite a bit and it was just extremely strong for a 1-3kg bream rod.

ONLINE Depth charts and Contour distinctions

Hi there guys, just wondering if anyone knows where i can see or upload an Online Sea Map or depth chart of WA coast line (Rotto Trench & other goodies well offshore) ??

What a Magic partner!!!!!

Ok dont all be jealous. The Boss (aka the loved one) has just given me a voucher for $1500. And its not my money either!!!

I also have an old one! Yeh ha for $200. So I have $1700 to spend on fishing gear.

Now a few on here will know I have stayed away from Stella's because I am a rough fisho, dont baby my gear etc. It has to be tough to be in my/our hands.

I am not a comp fisho, more like I love it to death, get out there and try and do the best I can.

With this PRIZE, one Stella and a rod to match, or 2 Twinpowers and rods.

I have a problem. I dont go back from a fav anything, so if I get the Stella I might be forced to never look back.

Budget Budget???

Some on here have said go for it with the Stella's, but I am not forgetting the Daiwa range either.

IMHO a 1k+ reel is a treasure, and I am not sure that I am respectfull enough for that>

Just asking for opinions about this DILEMMA!!!!!!!!!!

$38,000 fine for illegal possession of frozen fish fillets
A recreational fisher has been ordered to pay a fine, mandatory penalty and court costs totalling
more than $38,000 for illegal possession of fish.
Trevor WATERS, aged 46, of Yunderup failed to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court this
week, after being issued with a summons to attend. He was found guilty in his absence.
The case relates to the illegal possession of 145.17 kg of frozen fish fillets – 125.17 kg over the
state-wide individual possession limit – following a surveillance and apprehension operation by
Fisheries and Marine Officers in the Gascoyne and the Perth metropolitan area.
As part of the surveillance work, Fisheries and Marine Officers observed him collecting a
consignment of eight foam boxes from a commercial transport company at Perth Airport and
placing them in his truck.
The officers then tailed Mr Waters to South Yunderup Road, Ravenswood, where they
intercepted him and seized the consignment.
When questioned, he told officers he had been away on a fishing trip where he and his friends
had caught fish and freighted them down from Carnarvon and Exmouth for collection at Perth.
His name was listed as the receiver of the fish on the consignment notes and each of the boxes,
but he claimed that, as the skipper of the boat, he was collecting the fish on behalf of his friends.
Department of Fisheries South Metropolitan Compliance Manager John Breeden said Fisheries’
regulations clearly stated that it was illegal to be in possession of fish over the 20 kilogram-limit,
whether they are for personal consumption or for distribution to others.
“These rules are in place to ensure fishers take sustainable amounts of fish to ensure there are
fish for the future for all to enjoy,” Mr Breeden said.
“The size of the fine should act as a strong message to all recreational fishers transporting fish
fillets from fishing trips, to make sure they do not exceed the individual possession limit and this
also includes all fish held at their residence.”
In Wednesday’s court hearing (20 July 2011), the Magistrate issued a fine $750 dollars for the
offence, a mandatory additional penalty of $37,551 dollars and costs of $121.95 under the excess
possession limit (Category 1 – Finfish) clause of the Fish Resources Management Act.
The mandatory additional penalty was based on a total of $300 per kilogram of fillets that was
calculated from 10 times the value of the fillets, which were prescribed as 30 dollars per
kilogram. Details of Western Australia’s fishing rules are available at www.fish.wa.gov.au.

Man fined $38,000 for overfishing in Western Australia

A WEST Australian angler has been fined almost $40,000 instead of $750 after failing to appear in court to face charges of overfishing by more than 125kg.

Trevor Waters, 46, was found guilty in absentia in the Mandurah Magistrates Court of illegally possessing 145.17kg of frozen fish fillets - 125.17kg over the 20kg limit.

He was fined a total of $38,423 comprising a $750 fine for the offence, a mandatory additional penalty of $37,551 and costs of $122.

He was charged after Fisheries and Marine officers who had him under surveillance saw him collect eight foam boxes from a transport company at Perth Airport and place them in his truck.

The officers followed Waters and later intercepted him, seizing the consignment.

Waters said he had been on a fishing trip where he and his friends had caught fish and freighted them from Carnarvon and Exmouth, in WA's north, for collection in Perth.

He said that as the skipper of the boat he was collecting the fish for his friends.

Fisheries compliance manager John Breeden said regulations clearly stated it was illegal to be in possession of more than 20kg of fish.

"These rules are in place to ensure fishers take sustainable amounts of fish to ensure there are fish for the future for all to enjoy," Mr Breeden said.

Well done Magistrate, well done, send a HARD message to all those that poach!

ps... if they had all fished and marked their catch in accordance with the rules then there would not have been an issue.

Seems his fishing mates & him did not turn up in court to prove they had only 20kg each!

Great White Shark breaches into boat

Great white shark breaches into boat
The West Australian July 21, 2011,

Pictures have emerged of a three-metre great white shark after it breached into a marine research vessel off the coast of South Africa.

According to the Cape Times, six researchers from Mossel Bay on the Southern Cape, were collecting data on sharks near Seal Island on Monday when the 500kg shark landed in the boat.

“Activity around the boat ceased for about five minutes and all was pretty quiet at the stern,” field specialist Dorien Schroder told the Cape Times.

“Next thing, I hear a splash and see a great white breach out of the water from one side of the boat hovering, literally, over a crew member chumming on the port side.”

The predator landed on the boat’s fuel and bait storage containers. The shark began to panic cutting fuel lines as it thrashed around on the deck.

Another boat of scientists was radioed to assist with removing the great white from the deck. While the researchers waited for help, water was poured over the shark’s gills in an endeavour to keep it alive.

Attempts to return the shark to the water, including tying one end of a rope around its tail and the other end to the side of another vessel, failed.

The vessel was then towed to Mossel Bay harbour where a crane was used to lift the predator off the boat.

Water was hosed into the shark’s mouth to ventilate its gills while ropes were secured to its tail.

As soon as the shark was returned to the water it swam away towards the mouth of the harbour and about 30 minutes later was found beached.

This time rescuers attached ropes to the shark’s tail and behind the pectoral fins and slowly towed it out to sea.

About a kilometre out to sea, the shark regained its orientation and swam away.

True to its motto – 'The Science & Art of Fishing' – Z-Man prides itself on bringing cutting edge technology to anglers.

Z-Man’s proprietary ElaZtech® is a remarkable material that is soft and pliable yet as much as 10X Tougher than other soft plastic baits.

Despite this deliberate abuse, ElaZtech baits not only remain fishable, but with their realistic appearance, they consistently outfish ordinary plastics by a wide margin.

ElaZtech baits boast one of the highest Fish Per Bait ratings in the industry making them a very economical bait to use... and ElaZtech baits are non-toxic. Unlike most other soft plastic baits, ElaZtech contains no PVC, Plastisol, or Phthalates.

Min Kota Auto Pilot Electric Motors

Fishwrecked Crew,

I`m thinking about using a Bow mounted Elec Motor with Auto Pilot ( stationary anchoring GPS system ) on my Quintrex WB Dory when out and about bottom bouncing. Has anybody used one of the new GPS Min Kotas in a boat my size at sea. Am i dreaming here or am I on a winner? What sort of thrust would I need to maintain position in a light breeze and current and what sort of $$ would I have to pay for one??

Appreciate your replies

Timboon
