Wanted - Best Casting 40 - 50gram lures
Submitted by timboon on Mon, 2018-10-22 20:31Crew I want to send the old man some lures but as i've been out of the salmon chasing game i'm out of touch with what is the best casting lures out there...
I must stress, looks come a big second to casting distance...
Where he fishes you need to be able to punch them out there to a small area often into a head wind otherwise you come up short and wont catch a thing...
Any help as always is appreciated....

Advice for trailer inspection?
Submitted by Dreamtime on Mon, 2018-10-22 09:33Hey guys picked up an unlicensed trailer a while back and I've got it booked in for 3 tomorrow for an inspection to get it licensed and I was wondering how you have to legally fix your trailer light cables down the frame and how you have to store any unused cable. The eccess cable has just got a few wraps around the base of the winch pole and taped up. Is this going to be an issue?? Any advice will be appreciated as I'd like to give it the best chance of passing first go. Cheers

Seaside Bush Tucker
Submitted by Confishius on Wed, 2018-10-17 15:08Hi All,
part of the fun of fishing is getting off the hwy, and either diving snorkeling or fishing for super fresh seafood. Personally for me its the south coast of WA. I love to cook a bit of whatever I catch on a fire right there in on the rocks or beach for breakfast lunch or dinner.
I would love to add more elements of surrounding bush tucker to the menu. A bit of salt bush, or pigface.
not looking for anything that requires much prep - just forage, peel/cut/squeeze and eat / cook.
I can say that fresh abalone, fried with a bit of salt bush is a great flavor enhancement.
Do other have ideas for me?
Is there a decent book out there about it? I cant find one.
What do others do??
look forward to the discussion

Gelcoat Repair filler or Flowcoat for minor repairs?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sat, 2018-10-13 14:37
I have a few stone chips/ minor scratches as well as some wear marks/ indents where from the keel rollers (they have developed over time through travel/ pressure on the same spot when its on the trailer) on the hull of my boat that Id like to fix
Ive been doing some reading on whats the best stuff to use- flowcoat or a gelcoat repair filler and Im getting mixed info that I was hoping someone could help clear up through actual experience with them:
- Gelcoat repair filler: I got recommended a product called Septone Gelcoat repair filler, so ordered some of that. It appears easier to use that flowcoat as it sticky/ more workable- less liquidy than flowcoat When it arrived, the label says “not for use below the waterline unless the top is coated with a waterproof finish” although other people have said they use it on the hull with no problems. After some googling, it seems like older tins of this stuff didn’t have this warning on them- so either it’s a result of ass covering by the company or they have recently changed the recipe? Im thinking this might be meant for boats that stay in the water, but it might be OK for trailer boats when they are only in the water for 48 hours or so max etc. it’s a polyester resin Kit as opposed to a epoxy. Google again says that this may end in a tacky surface…
- Flowcoat: Again, google says that flowcoat is basically gelcoat with a wax mix to make it cure better/ non tacky etc. Bit more painful to use on the hull (vertical/ angled surface) from past experience as its runny.
That’s the background of where Im at basically. I guess the questions are:
1) Is the Septone Gelcoat repair filler OK to use on a trailer boat for below the water line?
2) Will the Septone or the flowcoat produce a harder/ better wearing finish (especially on the roller weat patches on the keel?
3) Overall, should I be using flowcoat or the gelcoat filler? (the bits Im repairing aren’t bad damage- stone chips, small scratches and then the roller wear which is a bit bigger)
Im obviously leaning towards the flowcoat option, just wanted some additional info, especially if one will give a harder/ better wearing result that the other, on the above if anyones had any direct experience- the internets throwing up a fair bit of conflicting information
Cheers in advance

The weather gods must be crazy
Submitted by sea-kem on Sat, 2018-10-13 11:44So we made plans for yesterday (Friday) to punch out wide from Two rocks for a big day of demersal fishing. We studied all the weather sites Meteye, Fishranger, Seabreeze etc etc and they all agreed right up to the last time I checked at 4am. Light winds 8-10 knots max with a drop off in the arvo, that's the only thing they got right.
Ha ha well they all F^%%ked up. Got to the ramp and it was a good 15-20 with a shit chop, still headed out as the swell was pretty well correct at 1m but what a washing machine. Watched some clowns who looked like they'd been on the claret all night head out in a small runnabout ya gotta wonder.
Anyway one deckie was providing burley and I was a bit green as I wasn't in my usual skippering role and not kept busy.
But in the end we found some interesting ground before we hit any of Colin's marks and came up trumps with a couple of nice Dhuies amd Blackarse. Undersize Pinkys were thick out there with I reckon about 8 or nine released.
Thanks again for the day Colin, your boat is a weapon and handled the sea beautifully.

offshore mulloway
Submitted by paul d on Sat, 2018-10-13 07:32After seeing that Jazz Charters hooked up to a school of mulloway recently , i was thinking of targeting them after the demersal closure.
Does anyone have any info regarding depths they school up in , are they spawning aggregations or are they just a bycatch when fishing for dhuies etc.
Cheers Paul
