A mate of mine has a cray license and wants to go for a free dive on the weekend for crays. I don't have a license and was wondering if I went swimming/ snorkeling with him and fisheries pulled up there will be a issue? Note I will not be diving for crays.

 But I was stunned at the price of fish fillets at Kailis yesterday, Dhuie was $89.95 per kilo, many of the other more common species, snapper, goldband, red emp etc all over $55 a kilo. Having recently eaten gurnard in NZ and being very pleasantly surprised at how good it was, saw some also for sale at the same place.

On a lighter note, shhhhhhh, wind looking good to get the boat wet in the morning 

 Hi all, Want to put a winch on my boat for pot pulling. Can knots go through/round the winch? Also does most sort of rope work with the winch?

 It would appear that the city has a few issues getting this boat channel cleared. At the Safety Bay foreshore meeting last month the city manager in charged advised the attendees it would be dredged ready by the end of October. Latest news is that expressions of interest were called and that quotes were too high so it had to go to tender. The city came up with a plan to use the removed sand to a location off Shoalwater now instead of taking to landfill which has reduced the cost (good news) and we can expect that work will start within 2 weeks and be completed before 25th Dec. So we managed a couple of years ago with just 1 ramp so a little bit different witha very narrow / shallow channel it is what it is so lets be patient and no ramp rage please.

Heard proper last week that CALM (or whatever acronym the dept of fuking up national parks access for the masses as a knee jerk to the actions of the few is known by nowadays) have decided that the Ranger (or Caretaker however you know Paul and Pam) has run his race and had his employment contract terminafter  - CALM have decided to go down a different path than have Paul and Pam on-site at steep point after 22 years in situ - are you fukin kidding me!!!!

i hope for everyone’s sake that they don’t replace Paul and Pam with a couple of university qualified greenies with PHDs in spotted quoll mating cycles, because its hard to image someone else being the jack of all trades that Paul has been for so long. Wonder what type of resume their replacements will have - mechanic? 4wd recovery? Road maintenance? Rescue boaty? Coordinator of rescues? Grumpy old prick that can mediate the most heated of arguments between territorial fishos? Master of CDF when it comes to a group of blokes being loud but good spirited? If not, then we’ve lost something as the tax payer when Paul and Pam leave next June...

Mondays trip report video I caught some nice Snapper and found some rare dolphins on the way to the fishing grounds

 I recently purchased a stella 5000 hg for surface fishing / some jigging. Will mainly be used chasing mackies, small tuna and some kingies up in abrohlos next year. Im wanting to use 40lb (as i got smoked on 30lb a few times recently).

Ive narrowed it down to a few choices but am very open minded on suggestions. Im just looking for some informations / opinions on what to use. The choices are as follows (in 300m spools)

Ocea braid - pe 2.5 (approx 0.26mm) - 38.1lb - $145

Shimano Kairiki - 0.28mm - 40 lb - $60-70ish

Savage gear hd8 silencer braid - 0.23mm - 38 lb - $80

Siglon PE x 8 - 0.27mm - 40 lb - $65 ----- (have read some poor reviews about this braid)

Ive also considered berkley whiplash but i HIGHLY doubt its diameters are accurate.

When I was a little kid I was told by my Mum that your taste buds are on the top of your mouth.
Now I have believed that for a great many years now bunnings have said we don.t care just where your taste buds are, your going to have the onions on the bottom of your roll and the snagger on top of the onions.
Now I have been told to do a lot of things by people who think they know what is best for me but this is the last straw, I like getting my snagger in a roll with onions when I go shopping at bunnings but that is about to stop. Shopping at bunnings that is.
What an absolute load of crap just when are people going to stop telling other people what they should eat how they should eat it and when they should eat it.
I'll go to bunnings tomorrow and by my hot dog and demand they put the onion on top of the snagger along with both types of sauce.

My fellow Australians stand up and be counted on this matter.

Is is just me or is the wind really bloody annoying this spring? last year i was out diving for crays regularly through november, this year i cant remember the last time we were out. 

a couple of tiny windows in the early morning during the week, every afternoon is just SHIT! 

Thinking about getting a gaff for when the water warms up a little and the mackie’s arrive. Looked at one today measuring 1.6m and it seemed a little longer than I was thinking I would need.

What length pole do you like using from your boat?

So, i have sold my boat, moving on to my next venture- building a 6.5 M centre cab ali tub. I have just had a Furuno 587 with TM 260...hoping for some feedback from guys who use theirs and not just salesmen..but after some advice on any brands really..but leaning toward the Koden..

We fish regulary between 75-120m, and deep drop quite often upto 400 m. Had great use of my 587, just seeing what is new and improved out there.

Also im interested if anyone is using the transducers in hull that do not require a wet box- kind of like a down light- hole saw, then insert and tighten etc.

I’m chasing info to see if it’s beeter to dab for prawns of a boat in the Dawesville Cut or Between the Mandurah Bridges these days. Also, will they be floating by on the run in before the high as well as on the run out?Thought I might have a go sometime soon.

  Thought I would share the great service I got last week from a Company in Mandurah.

 I did some research about fitting a walk plank on the trailer( as I have a foot injury).

To make life easier retrieving the boat,thought a walk plank was a good idea. Didn't want to fit a metal plank,so google Grate matting-Plastic Grating.

Found out that you could purchase "Off Cuts" from Grating RFP in Mandurah. PH 95842500

Very helpful blokes there,had a off cut which was pefect for the trailer,and very reasonable price. Even had the stainless securing clips.

righto - three different answers from fisheries to same question. 

I asked the fisheries guy at the ramp last year, and both the missus and I have rung fisheries separately this year...

if you have 2 or 3 or 4 people in your household but only one has a cray licence, how many Crays can you have in your freezer and do they have to be labelled?

is the answer 24 ie only the max limit for the licenced person. Or can every person regardless of whether they have a licence or not have 24 in your household freezer?

one of the answers was “only 24 for the licenced person” another was “everyone in the house over 18 years of age can have 24 even if they don’t have a licence” and the best answer of all was “only the licenced fisher can have 24, and they have to be labelled, any extras are illegal. And if you label ones you’ve caught with your missus’ name and she hasn’t caught them then you can be charged with supply or sell!”

Well the boat is getting there and now I am thinking about transducer re-install though after patching up a fairly perforated hull, I am keen to avoid repeating mistakes of the past (18 holes in the hull) and find some sort of solution.

I use a dragonfly (which is a POS in other news) though intend to add another unit in due course and use the dragonfly for chart plotter and the other for fish finding so I am chasing ideas.

I vaguely recall seeing things like 10/12mm HMWPE strips on the hull and people fixing their transducers to that though not sure if this is a great idea as there will still be holes in it, admittedly with minimal in the hull, though this doesn’t solve the adjustable requirement, just in case the transducer is 5mm too high/too low ect.

The other part of the question is chasing information on flooring? Is there anything better than carpet around that won’t involve selling a kidney? Search button come up with a few expensive options and the product that Commodore Marine was spruiking looked good.
