Eiao, French Polynesia - one off opportunity to join a trip of a lifetime
Submitted by dkonig82 on Fri, 2016-10-14 15:10Some years back I visited Eiao, in French Polynesia.
To this day, it's still probably the most ridiculous trip I've done. You can see my report below.
http://fishwrecked.com/forum/jigging-and-popping-eiao-marquises-group-french-polynesia
For years now, the island has sat totally unfished - with the exception of one recon trip that was out there about 2 weeks ago.
Safe to say, the fishing is just as ridiculous as always. They smashed the fish, including this beast of a doggie landed, not to mention a spooled Stella 20 and JM PE7 on bigger fish....
The next people to fish this island will be my group, which is heading out there in February, and we have space available (either one or two spaces) to join.
Flight will depart Sydney on Thursday 9 February and get you back to Sydney on 19 February. Flight cost is A$2050 return.
No tackle supplied - you need to be self sufficient out there. It's a wild place, and a long way from anywhere.
If you are serious about coming and can make the dates, please drop me a message for more details. It is a guaranteed trip of a lifetime!
Cheers,
Dan

SMASH CRABS ARE BACK IN STOCK!!!!
Submitted by Oceanside Tackle on Fri, 2016-10-14 14:14SMASH CRABS are back in stock and with only a couple of days before the ban its time to get your hands on these awesome artificials before the closure.
Incredibly realistic looking, strong chemical sharpened hook and made from 10x stretch material these crabs are a WINNER!! Weighing in at 39 grams and 100mm at the widest point (legs) these things are a must have for shallow water demersals. Not only are they perfect for shallow water snapper locally but northern species such as blue bone and spangled emperor will not be able to resist these tasty looking treats. they can either be worked vertically or cast and slow roll retrieve for a realistic walking action.
All colours below in stock including the new RED BAIT CRAB COLOUR.
Drop into OCEANSIDE TACKLE AND MARINE to get your hands on these awesome artificials, they wont last long!!

Marine Trimmer
Submitted by wez0062 on Thu, 2016-10-13 11:18This is a message to any Marine Trimmers ect, who are online.
I have made contact with 3 different trimmers this week, asking for an appointment to bring my boat, 22ft Commodore Alrounder -- in to have a quote done to build a larger canopy and some custom shades & clears. Sadly, I have had no response
It seems people must be so busy that they do not need any more business.
I would really appreciate if someone, south of the river, who owns a trim shop, would make contact with me. I want my boat sorted ASAP.
I know how helpful most people are here in this group, but please do not send me contact details of trimmers, I want a trimmer who is happy to have new work, make contact with me.
thanks in advance

I recently bought a rovex Big boss surf rod 12 foot and l am thinking of buying a Pflueger Salt Surf rod 10 foot has anyone else had any experience with these rods?
I also want a reel to suit the rods l would mainly use it on Tailor, salmon and mulloway l was thinking of a reel around the 6000 size as l would be casting big weights what are some good reels under $200 for the beach.
Thanks in advance

Did anybody else see the boat "self-launch" on Marmion ave
Submitted by beeroclock on Wed, 2016-10-12 13:22this morning about 10:30am? happened at the roundabout near the old bunnings store in clarkson there - felt sorry for the owner - shit of a thing to have happen. The cable was still attached to the boat so presume the winch gave way bummer
Looking for a budget cray tipper and winch
Submitted by Oracle on Tue, 2016-10-11 20:31It's near the time! Im hoping someone can lead me the right direction here. Seems everywhere I look is super expensive for a 4 week cray season.
Hoping to get a winch for pulling pots this year. Happy to go second hand to keep the costs down, but is it worth just getting a winch and not the pot tipper? Anyone gone this way? Even $700 for just a winch seems a little pricy plus got to put it in correctly. Is it really worth it?
Cheers all.

Marine-Deals.com.au - more like Marine-No-Deal-its-a-scam-instead
Submitted by z00m on Tue, 2016-10-11 16:15I saw a great deal online for some 1kw tranducers for my Raymarine setup and thought I would partake of the particular offer. See picture below for the bargain.

I followed up the next day and referred to my existing order and wanted to get the Y-Cable that should go with these b175s when using with CP450C. No problem they said, they were ordering the items from the manufacturer.
Today, I get an email saying:
I’m sorry to advise there’s been an error on our listing due to a system update. Our product page showed a different amount for the ‘Raymarine B175 Depth/Temperature Thru Hull Low-High Transducer pair 12 deg’ at AU$999 when it should’ve been AU$4079. Rest assured the team is in the process of updating this on our page.
As a courtesy due to the error we’ll be giving you this unit at a very special rate of AU$2559 (instead of charging you the full amount of AU$4079). The unit will be available within a week. To complete this order we’ll just need to process the additional payment of AU$1,560
What a scam! Pure bait and switch marketing at its best.
Buyer beware when dealing with these jokers.

Lowrance LSS-2 Structure Scan Query
Submitted by Bucko on Tue, 2016-10-11 10:02Hey guys, I have a question for the sounder guru's.
At the moment, I am running a FCV-587 1kw as my sounder, and a HDS 7 Gen 3 as a chart plotter (no transducers yet).
I really would like to set up the HDS so I can run structure scan, but the guys who sold it to me said you had to connect the standard tranny as well.
So, my question is, can I just connect the LSS-2 tranny by itself and just run structure scan?
Cheers Lads.

Crayfish season 2016/17
Submitted by merdel12 on Mon, 2016-10-10 06:24So its getting to that time of the year when facebook and fishwrecked become swamped with pictures and questions about crays. considering the success of last year's thread I thought we'd get another one going. It was my first time last year potting and I learnt alot from other members on this site which really helped me out. So who's going out again this year? Diving? Potting? I've already upgraded and got myself a nice winch and tipper after the struggles of last season, so hopefully it pays off!

Two Rocks in a Tinny - any close inshore areas?
Submitted by Jorgo500exc on Sat, 2016-10-08 19:48Hi al
I recently bought myself a Quintrex F390 Tinny with a Suzuki 20hp 4stroke and spent the last few months fitting it out. I bought it primarliy to throw on the camper for when we head North, however I want to test it out and was thinking of putting in at Two Rocks marina and giving it a run - check the plotter and sounder.
Will be taking a mate and our soft plastics - is there any ground close in where we could target some KG's or Flatties ?
Or is there a better place north of the river to do this?
Thanks in advance
Jorgo

shimano biomaster drag problems
Submitted by Plug on Sat, 2016-10-08 10:15Hi everyone
I resently went up to exmouth and was using a brand new shimano biomaster sw, it was running well until teh drag went silent. The drag still works fine but it only some times clicks. The spool is fin but the toothed wheel, i am pretty sure, is borken because it spins. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the reel if so how did you fix it.

Great white population could increase due to Marine Parks - and Two Rocks marine park
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Sat, 2016-10-08 07:59Interesting article, how they know the population could increase when they don't know how many there are after a 4 year study has me stumped.
Also of concern is the Marine park plan rearing its ugly head again, pretty sure public opposition shut down these plans when Gillard was in.
'The current network of Commonwealth marine parks was introduced by the Gillard Government.
A new Commonwealth marine reserve is currently being planned at Two Rocks in Perth's north.
If it goes ahead, the reserve would restrict fishing operations across a large section of Perth's north metropolitan beaches.
The Federal Environment Department said the planned Two Rocks marine reserve covered an important foraging area for the threatened soft-plumaged petrel, Australian sea lion, migratory roseate tern, bridled tern, Caspian tern, wedge-tailed shearwater and common noddy'
My question is how is fishing from the beach affecting these species to the point where restrictions or closures need to be implemented. Reminds me of the reasoning for the Perth Canyon park to protect the blue pygmy whale - who is fishing for them?!

Help with Cray pots warnbro area.
Submitted by avatinni on Fri, 2016-10-07 21:32Hi All I will be putting my pots out this year around the ffb but I work 2 on & 2 off so I need someone to look after the pot for 2 weeks when I am away. All that is needed is a boat 2 floats and a Cray licence, I will supply the pots. So if someone wants to try for some Cray but don't want the expense of getting pots we can help each other out.
Cheers Mark.

Boat covers
Submitted by Dirt on Fri, 2016-10-07 09:19hey guys I've got a 21 ft carrabean reef runner/ hardtop that I'm looking to get another boat cover for. The two I've have in the past cost me about $500 and were a multi fit cover, problem is water pools in the slack areas resulting in mould and the demise of the cover, last one only lasted 2 years. Looking to see what other options are out there that may be a better option. I know I can get a full custom cover for about $2000 but looking for something in between

Pre Ban Weather Gods
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2016-10-07 06:49Not that I want to curse it but it looks like we're getting thrown a bone before the ban and I haven't been for a demersal bash since May 1 on account of shredding my knee and getting it put back together.
This weekend's gonna be spent tieing rigs and checking my knots as I plan to break my run of five 46-49 Dhueys.
