Hillaries and ocean reef PARKING
Submitted by scotto on Thu, 2016-10-27 12:55straight from the horses mouth:
"There are two boat-launching ramps within the City. One is located at Hillarys Boat Harbour (Northside Dr) and another can be found at the Ocean Reef Boat Harbour (Boat Harbour Quays). Launching fees are applicable and contain ample parking for vehicles and boat trailers."
http://www.joondalup.wa.gov.au/Explore/Beaches/Activities.aspx
I have been reading the other post with a bit of interest, but from what I can see/read, it is clearly a launching fee.

My first crayfishing "rookie mistake"!!
Submitted by beeroclock on Thu, 2016-10-27 10:48Bought a box of 5kg blue mackies Saturday morning, eagerly baited up a cray pot in the car garage which is my "man cave" (don't use it for the cars) and took pot out on boat and dropped it. Left for work this morning (Thursday) and just before we got to the front door to leave daughter asks "whats that horrible smell!" opened internal door to car garage and smell hit me! I had left the friggin box of blue mackies right next to the deep freezer!! stunk like F^&k!, garage must be fly-proof cause there were none in there. My fault for being to keen hopefully this helps so no one else makes same mistake - and if you smell something real bad down at Mindarie boat ramps - its just me launching with my rotten baited pots, hope the crays like em ha ha cheers dave

Replacement esky
Submitted by sunshine on Wed, 2016-10-26 20:10my Coleman hinges bit the dust, yes you can get replacements BUT Coleman only use mild steel screws so impossible even with an easy out to remove them, the plastic simply heats and melts....there used to be a member that sold fibreglass insulated coolers on here....is he still around ? .

To G-Love or not to glove?
Submitted by timboon on Wed, 2016-10-26 19:16Rightyo you G-lovers or non glovers, give me your opinions on why you do or why you dont?
I'm a bare back man myself, I leave the thumb unleashed & i dont really get the G-Lovin theory ( unless of course i havent heard it yet which is why i'm here )...
I get it if you're bill fishing and a deckie has to try and wrangle with a big heavy fish with a beak and the tag line but apart from that it kinda baffles me.
When an AFL player G-Loves up I er on the side of retard but i give him the benefit of the doubt.... So to you Ty Vickory you can wear 3 gloves if it helps to De-Richmondize yourself.... But also they say it helps them clunk a grab.
So do you G-Lovers catch more fish?
I'm not knocking a G-Lover, I mean i let my missus as she needs to keep her soft delicate hands...
Theories?
Any closet G-Lovers that want to come out of the closet now?

HELP A MEMBER WIN A FISHING TRIP TO DARWIN
Submitted by jimbo1 on Wed, 2016-10-26 18:09Hi all,
For a while now I have not been able to put the time I'd like into my love of fishing, but now I have a prime opportunity to re-kindle my passion with your help..
If admin does not approve feel free to remove, however this is not spam but a genuine request for support at no cost..
In short I recently entered a Facebook competition through Oliver Work Boots for a all expenses paid fishing trip to Darwin. I had to submit a photo of my Work Boots and sent one in of my dog (Rottweiler) wearing them, to my surprise being one of the 10 finalists. I am currently in second place and have until Friday to boost my votes and potentially win the trip of a lifetime as I have never had the opportunity to go on a trip of such adventure..
All I ask is for those willing to help me out by following link and voting for my dog in boots..
Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to help a fellow fisherman out.
James

Crays are everywhere at the moment. Surge was terrible and vis was crap so got smashed around a bit but was nice to be in the water.

Cockburn boat tow on saturday
Submitted by GGs on Tue, 2016-10-25 09:55Had to tow some very lucky guys into CPBA on Saturday afternoon.
Their transom had given way out the back of garden island and the outboard had fallen into the water about halfway up the cover.
We picked them up about 200m from the CPBA rockwall and towed them to the ramps. Have to give them credit on their rigging skills to hold the outboard to the boat for that distance.
If you read this then i hope you managed to get it out of the water without loosing the motor because it didnt look promosing at the time.

Shark cull East coast
Submitted by timboon on Mon, 2016-10-24 20:21Rightyo this is an oldie but a goodie...
What has this country come to......
Yet another Shark attack over East along that famed strech in Northern NSW......
They talk of nets to protect the beaches is soft, how about cutting to the chase and running about 20,000 hooks ( yep about 1 per 200 hundy mtrs ) and get rid of them....
It would help us out long term in the west as it would get rid of the sub 3 m whites so what is a win for them is a win for us.....
All you tree hugging wankers can come out and state there is more people run over on the roads by bee stings or whatever i dont give a toss....
We ( humans ) are Alpha and we ( humans ) decide what goes on around here.....
Fuck em off.....
I feel sorry for the locals there, I know what its like to find it hard to enjoy the ocean with dark thoughts in the back of your mind....
They need to learn from the mistakes made locally here, check the lines at night without the channel 7 chopper flying over head spreading the wank all over the news....
Shit i dont even care if they fin them to fund the ordeal just FUCK THEM OFF..............
Boon......

Outboard mounted too low?
Submitted by Gaffatron on Mon, 2016-10-24 13:41hey all,
recently upgraded the dinghy (Dory 420 with 40hp 2st Mariner), taken it for a spin when the boat is up on plane seem to get a fair amount of splashing from the motor having a look it seems the motor is mounted about 40mm too low? your thoughts on the pics below? should the cavitation plate be the same height as the lower part of the keel or the same height as the bottom of the hull?

Submitted by duncan61 on Mon, 2016-10-24 12:19I would like to go potting around safety bay.does anyone have any pots that I can co use or hire cos I will only be down for a week and don't really want to buy new ones. I have done this before and it becomes hard work to do a whole season a few days is good. I have a 4m tinny and 15hp so not too far out . I would be happy to pay $200.00 to Co use someone's pots or share the catch
Ocean Reef parking
Submitted by Ninety Mile on Mon, 2016-10-24 11:37Hi All, just wanting some advise on whether to purchase an annual parking permit in view of the cray season. Its now $170 or 10 bucks a pop from the machine.
For cray season do you need to buy a $10 ticket each time just to check your pots? Criminal!
I split my launching between Hillarys, O/R and Mindarie, so outside of the morning pot pulls i would be lucky to launch there 8 times a year!
Anyway appreciate your thoughts!

Some F*#k'n people
Submitted by duges66 on Mon, 2016-10-24 07:34So yesterday I take the misses out to whale watch. As advised to Katman in another post we were about 3-4 ks at the back of Rotto. After we'd our fill of whales breaching tail slapping etc... it was time to hit the Rotto pub for a feed. We'd normally take our own feed and sit in a bay but we'd had a big one the night before and woke at 9 so it was a last minute decision to make the most of the conditions,
anyway i digress. The pub was fairly packed and it was a struggle to find a table but eventually did. So as we are waiting for our feed to arrive a couple of blokes asked if they could sit at the next next to us, "no worries" was our reply. A few minutes later another bloke arrives and proceeds to tell his mates he just got done by fisheries for cray offences.
In summary here's what we overheard. They'd had their pots inside the sanctuary zone, had more crays than the number of licenses on board & they had undersized & tar spotted females crays (didn't say how many). The bloke was filthy on the fisheries and said he'd told them to get the f*#k off his boat. Excellent maneuver, I'm thinking when I hear that one as they'll go you harder for that.
Then he says he's got a mate in fisheries so hopefully he can get him off. I frigging hope not. The 2 that had originally sat next to us then left to go join the arsehole and his mates elsewhere in the pub, thank goodness for that as I was having a hard time holding my tongue. The misses had already given me a kick under the table as she knows what I'm like, haha. Seriously some f*#k'n people.

Derwent wreck, Mandurah artificial reef
Submitted by meglodon on Sat, 2016-10-22 22:01Has anyone fished the Derwent wreck in recent times or tried the Mandurah artificial reef. I should think that there should be something around the reef by now, even if it is only sambos. Time has just escaped me from doing so but I'll have to get out to both places when some good weather comes along and I can dodge cutting the lawn.

Which way would you go?
Submitted by johnathon on Sat, 2016-10-22 18:19I'm looking a the Reflex Chianti 635 and the Formosa Searod.
i have a family of 5 boys and the wife wants to go for a fish so I'm shopping really hard for a suitable boat for reef and creek fishing. 75% of the time it's me and a couple of mates then the rest of the time I need the family boat.
Any recommendations or a favourite out of the two I mentioned?
thanks in advance.

SWITCHING OFF SOUNDER
Submitted by Sam57 on Sat, 2016-10-22 13:29WAS TALKING TO AN OLD TIME FISHERMAN THIS MORNING AND HE SAYS SHOULD TURN OFF SOUNDER WHEN GETTING TO MARK OR WHEN FISH LOCATED AS HE BELIEVES SOUNDER SPOOKS FISH AND HIS CATCH RATE IS ALWAYS BETTER WHEN HE DOES THIS, IS HE PULLING MY LEG OR IS THIS THE CASE. WHAT DO OTHERS THINK ? I COULD CERTANLY DO WITH SOME HELP AS ONLY MANAGED TO CATCH UNDERSIZE DHU & SNAPPER THIS LAST YEAR. IF THIS IS THE CONSENSOUS, AS I HAVE A COMBO LOURANCE UNIT WOULD THE SOUNDER STILL TRANSMIT WHEN ON GPS.
