Solution to Cray pot Thieves
Submitted by WALLABOK on Mon, 2014-12-08 07:15Further to my previous posting a few weeks back the site has been inundated with people experiencing the same issues with crays being removed from their pots. Over the last few weeks we have been successful with crays but have pots broken due to mechanical winches lifting them and repositioned anything upto 100m away. As we all know the fisheries are limited with resources but have shown a strong presence on the water, in particulate between Rockingham and Dawesville.
THE SOLUTION
I have been told by a few angry potters that they have now started this due to poaching from pots.
Clearly mark a crayfish and inject "opening medicine into the flesh of the crayfish (does not harm him).
The idea being is this crays will be stolen and added to what we suspect a stock pile. Hopefully this message circulates to the correct people. They will not be able to identify these crays and their entire stock pile will be unless or WELCOME to the squerts! ENJOY XMAS DAY ON THE DUNNY!!!!!!!!!

Jumb'ooooooooo
Submitted by Mick C on Sun, 2014-12-07 16:30Went out early to check the pots now that there was bait in them! After using all of the fish we caught at Walpole (minus the flathead fillets of course), plus some tuna heads, expectations were fairly high given we got some yesterday, even though the pots hadn’t been baited for a couple of weeks.
Ahh yes, lots of crays and quite a few non berried females. Even got our first jumbo of the season, and he was an absolute horse. Had to check it was a male as it was clearly greater than 105mm carapace length – good thing I read FishWrecked so knew about the “fine print” rule.
He’s Christmas dinner.

Exmouth vs Coral Bay
Submitted by kuzi on Sun, 2014-12-07 15:58Hi all fellow anglers!
A group of us are planning a trip up north in the first week of May and we are debating between staying at Coral Bay or Exmouth. I've been to Coral Bay previously and enjoyed it but if the wind blows then you don't have too many other options of places to fish. In my opinion I would think that Exmouth gives you loads more opportunities depending on which way the wind is blowing. Would like to hear what opinions others have on the 2 places whether it be fishing in general or any other pros and cons for both locations.
Cheers in adavnce! Kuzi.

Premium Feed Tonight
Submitted by Mick C on Sat, 2014-12-06 14:11Went out to bait the pots today, after leaving them out there since Thursday before last. WTF, 15 crays - they have been using our pots as a hotel. 2 small, but legal whites, and 13 huge berried females that went back. Not long now until we bring back 20kg of keepers.
Baited them up with a dozen tuna heads and all the fish we got at Walpole so see how we go tomorrow morning.
Had a look at some new tailor reefs, and pinkie ground, as conditions were great and the water was clear. Then went chasing King George and got 3 thumpers, amongst a lot of other stuff.
Premium feed tonight :-)

Boat Wrap Part 2 - Member Comment Requested
Submitted by Mick C on Fri, 2014-12-05 19:31Following on from my previous post (http://fishwrecked.com/forum/boat-wrap-part-1-request-member-assistance), the boat wrap project has progressed. The date for installation is still 12 December so the graphic has now been produced and is in “final edit” stage. The boat has been properly prepared and all is ready to go.
We have spent a lot of time designing the graphic for the boat. The theme is “bait fish massacre by big angry fish”. We only have this weekend to provide any further amendments (there has been a lot of redesign already) so need to supply any final adjustments by first thing Monday.

As with any design, you miss things. We are seeking comment from knowledgeable Members so do not ignore anything obvious. Yes, the tailor are too big and the dhu and pink are a bit small relative to the others but these will be addressed. Any comment on the general arrangement would be appreciated so we make sure we get it right.

Couple of Gummys with the kids
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2014-12-05 19:23I get a bit slack when it comes to posting pics on here but reading Andy ( sea kems ) double header story with his boys made me write and post a couple of pics.
Last summer I was back in SE South Oz seeing my family when me and a good mate took the kids out in the bay for a quick fish.
Its often a lottery & generally you are happy if you can manage a feed. Where I grew up is a lot different to the West Coast of South Oz.
Anyway we'd caught a couple of small snapper ( released ) and then a couple of ok Gummys, My daughter and step son both managed one each which made me chuffed but anyway the little bloke was so desperate to be the king of the boat he was concentrating so hard when there was a bit of action happening but he couldn't keep his eyes off the last gummy that had been bled and not yet thrown on ice. It was down not far from his feet with its head furtherest away but I could tell by him glancing down every few seconds while trying ever so hard to concentrate it was throwing him off his game. Anyway he looked down checking all was ok and the next time he was all serious I reached down and grabbed the back of his ankle - Well F#%K me he nearly leapt into the drink, it was a pisser!! He bloody thought he was a goner... He's got a good sense of humour and still reminds me of it but yeah good times when you have the kids around especially if you can go home with the nights dinner.

Rod Courier
Submitted by Uluabuster on Fri, 2014-12-05 14:10Hi All,
Was wondering which courier/freight/shipping company does everyone use for shipping rod interstate ? What are the charges like ? Australian Post does not deliver anything over 1 metre. :(
The rods are packed and sealed in either PVC pipes or its own custom transparent plastic rectagular tube.
Thanks
Uluabuster

Crabbing Mandurah
Submitted by joycey on Thu, 2014-12-04 19:29Hi all,
Hoping to take wife and 2 young girls out crabbing in Mandurah in my 5.3m glass boat just before Christmas
I've never done it down Mandurah before.
Just after some general advice on where to launch from, areas / depths to try.
Also will a boat of my size be ok as I've heard the estuary is pretty shallow, are the shallow spots well marked?
Cheers for any advice

Cray Pots - Jarrah or Pine?
Submitted by bradz on Thu, 2014-12-04 12:46Hi guys
Im heading up to Jurien in the first week of January. My question is, if I am getting some pots made up should I be getting Jarrah or pine slats?
Some people are telling me that Jarrah are only good for reds and the whites dont like them, whereas some swear by pine all season long.
Any constructive input would be appreciated.
Cheers

New FADS and stocking Wellington dam
Submitted by Versus on Thu, 2014-12-04 12:32Just got the Recfishwest news email; those new FADS have been deployed, including a subsurface one, be interested to see how they go. There's also a "have your say" on what to stock at Wellington dam, after the recent Murray Cod/local ponds activity will be interesting to see what gets stocked! What's everyone gonna ask for?
