Snapper fishin' tomorra

Looking a bit windy tomorrow but the forecast says it will calm down to less than 10 knotts in the arvo. Being neap tides it looks like a good time to head out to some lumps for some north west snapper. Will report tomorrow arvo. good luck to anyone else who is heading out.

Yesterday

Went out to the containers with Adam,Skipper Kasey and Captain Snooze (Steve) talk about a magic day the conditions got better as the day went on there were Sambos,a few nannagi, breaksea cod, large black ass,and a nice boomer gummy shark,There were a few bustoff's due to structure and un stopable fish,For a change I out fished Kasey which would not happen very often.I caught my first dhuie which was undersize which Kasey expertly released with a release weight to fight another day Saw a few bait schools being harrassed by something we threw popper, lures and metals but no hookups.
Thanks Kasey for putting us on to the fish
and of course Captain Snooze for providing the boat

awesome holiday

went to greenwell point on the nsw sth coast over the weekend with a couple of mates....got there and had a look from the c/van park jetty and thought this looks pretty fishy...got some gear together and fished for an hour from the jetty while my mates took the boat for a run...within 10 mins had my first flathead at my feet(35cms) it soon got dark and nearly got carried away by the mozzies so went back to the van to plan the mornings fish...7am and the water was like a mirror , the weather was perfect.we got the boat goin and headed into the estuary and i was lookin around in amazement...so many spots that looked like they held fish...we moved around a bit , alot of the time just driftin with the current and everywhere we floated we picked up fish....bream , flathead , flounder , leatherjackets , squire(baby snapper) , whiting and not one blowie to be seen....a lot of fish were just size so we let them go back into this great santuary...it was all about fun... we spent all day on the water and had caught a least a 100 fish between the 3 of us and by 5pm we decided to call it a day....sunday morning was just the same and we headed towards the entrance of this pristine estuary and found a small feeder creek....we sat at the mouth and got held by the wind against the current ...burleyed up with chook pellets and within minutes it was like we were floatin on top 4 million whitebait...we were usins live nippers and whitebait and within minutes the 1st decent flattie was on board....sitting up the front of the boat i noticed some movement beneath me an dropped a whitebait 2 mtrs away and slowly retrieved it and got what i saw moving , a 46cm fat flathead ....i was wrapped...we sat there for a couple of hours and cleaned up on the flathead and flounder...ran out of bait so i started using some plastics and again within minutes hooked up again...and for the 1st time in my life i saw just about the unthinkable ....a double hookup on my mates rod of 2 decent flathead on live nippers(strange with flathead generally hunting alone ) but it was great to see....we headed back in around 11am and were very satisfied the mornings session...6 flatties and a few flounder for a great feed....if anyone ever goes to nsw and wants a great fish , try greenwell point....i did and had a great time!!!!

carnarvon saturday

I will be up in carnarvon for this weekend and was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction or be up for a trip with another boat. Would be up for pretty much anything but would love to know if there are some creeks to poke around in within an hours run from town to chase some Jack etc. Any help would be good.

Handheld GPS

Does anyone know any good online stores to buy handheld GPS and brackets from. I want to get one that has large memory capacity to store lots of spots, but also contains detailed contour lines and relatively decent screen size for a good price. I have a GPS72, but it has no map contours and not much memory space. The boat has GPS, but I need it for when I travel down the coast also for when I head out to sea.

Cheers,
Adam

have a look at this

Busso underwater observatory

I went down to the underwater observatory a few weeks back with a few friends.

On the day we went it was about 13m visibility. The best they get down there is 15m so it was a really good day to go. While none of the bigger YTK's or sambo's came round to play we did see 2 small blue groper, 2 smaller sambo's, a couple of king wrasse plus the usual yellowtail's, herring and other reef fish hanging ariound. It was well worth the walk and well worth the $20 entry.

Another thing the girls said is that unfortunately it is their job to pick up any rubbish on their way back to shore or or on their way out to work. This has on occasion been sh*t. So remember that if you ever fish on the jetty take your rubbish with you or else it will have to be picked up by a 17 year old girl or younger.........
Please Don't sh*t on the jetty either.

dingy hire

hey guys any one have any idea where/how much it is, to hire a small dingy for over night or during the day?

SOR vs NOR Prize Pool

Prizes are looking good for the Comp everyone.

Prizes will be allocated in the following categories.

Champion Angler - Overall Combined Winner
Champion Angler - SOR Event
Champion Angler - NOR Event
Heaviest of each Species Prizes - 15 elegible species = 15 prizes per event
Best Photo in a Fishwrecked Beanie
Highest Point Scoring NOR entrant in SOR Comp
Highest Point Scoring SOR entrant in NOR Comp

There will be a prize pool allocated for the heaviest species prizes and the pool will be divided up based on the number of species weighed.

At this stage its looking like a prize pool of around $1500 but it is continually growing.

Also as this is a social function and not a formal competition to be eligible for any prizes a DONATION to the prize pool of $10 per person will be required before the date of the event. This is instead of the previously discussed entry fee.

Once we have finalized the prize pool Andy will arrange to hand out an info pack to all NOR people and collect donations and I'll do the same for SOR people. We need to do this before the event so prizes can be purchased etc.

Looks like its going to be a good couple of days.

Also if you have any ideas for other prize categories post them up and they will be looked at and may be included depending on the final prize pool.

Best one yet

Today has seen the best muppet award in Exmouth yet. I'll paint a picture. 12:30pm, blowing 20knots plus south westerly at Tantabiddi, 10 trailers in the car park and a guy from Victoria and his wife, middle aged, come to launch their 5.5m trailcraft. It took them 10 minutes trying to back it down the ramp straight, on the ramp with no grip, hence the car skidding all over the place. They got it in the water, unhooked it all and then he jumped in as it drifted off at a rapid rate of knots. All of a sudden he realised he didn't have the boat ignition key and yells out to his wife that he needs the keys. She proceeds to run to the car, grab the boat keys, runs down onto the rocks and throws them to him as he's 10 meters away. Well, wouldn't you know it, plop, in they go with no float. She rips the car out and goes to help him with the boat, which has now floated 150m down the beach over chunks of reef (luckily high tide) with him trying to paddle with the smallest oar into shore. He then realises he has to get out, jumps in up to his shoulders and starts walking it in. He gets it to shore and then gets his wife to hold it (very small lady, maybe 5ft2 and fraily built) and goes off to his car to get something to start it with. By this stage he has forgotten to put his motor up, which has been sitting in the sand locking the boat in position with a small swell running and moving tide, hence sitting on its skeg and tilting violently. After about 15 minutes he managed to find something to kick the boat over, headed up the reef for about 15 minutes and decided to come back when 4 other boats returned. His wife then jumps out of the boat and gets the car, drives it up to the ramp amongst the congestion of the other trailers trying to retrieve. Then after 3 jack knifes, I couldn't take it anymore and decided to get the boys that I was interviewing to help out, one jumped in the car, the other 2 holding the boat whilst the boat owner winched. I then interviewed some pretty frustrated boaties who just wanted to get out of there, seeing as the wind was a solid 25+ knot south westerly by that stage. All I could do was sit there and shake my head after they refused any help in the first place. Oh well, you get that I suppose. :(

I've seen some good ones so far, but this one takes the cake.

Shark Bay

G'Day Guys,

I am thinking of going to Denham in a couple of weeks for a week with the boat.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it's like for boat fishing for small boats. I have a Savage 455 Ranger with 50Hp.

The charts dont appear to have any features on them within striking distance so was just wondering what the fishing is likely to be like

Any info would be great.

fads

hey anyone got ne idea when the fads are coming in or if there in yet. Looking to go out on saturday if there still there

VARIVAS avani GT MP or GT SMP

Has anyone used this braid and have any comment about it? im trying to decide if its worth spending the extra money to get this instead of say linesystems FROG braid

Looking at an 80lb line in PE6 would be great

Gear Failure

I had another look at my popper that I hooked my GT on last night and I noticed something I don't know how I missed.

One of the hooks on the rear treble has been straghtened, not completely but quite noticeable.

Also, the bit that the split ring is connected to on the lure has had so much force applied that you can see where it has kinda fractured the lure body.

Ouch. I see now why the standard gear just isn't up to scratch.

silstar starlight 2

hey was looking thru my familys fishing gear and found a oldschool baistcaster silstar starlight 2. never even heard of it before are they any good? also i found a jarvis walker black queen deluxe, cork handled rod,9ft. were these any good back in the day or were they cheapies?

Sound advice

This topic has probably been done to death and have been reading plent of posts and webs. Sadly, I'm none the wiser.
At the moment I have a little black & white job which tell lots of porkies and would like to replace with something more honest.
Now, I would love to spend $4,500 (as per Ryans post) but the hubby would shoot me as = 1 person to the Rugby world cup this year......priorities!
Have up to $1,000 and would like good quality, colour and bottom lock.
Is there such a beast on the market??
Advice/recommendations would be welcome.
Cheers
Jody

Pro Gear Oceanus 30 reel

New one popped up on bluewater today looks like a studio ocean mark copy to me... a third of the price, it'll be interesting to see how they perform

Whats a warranty worth?

I purchased a Pfluegar Contender from a Fishing tackle store in Joondalup, the reel is 4 and a bit months old and they are supposed to be warrantied for 5 years.

Went out on Nebraska 22nd of April, and the neck of the reel (part attaching to the rod) Cracked luckly there was a screw holding it in place so it didn't break all the way through, and this was caused by catching a snapper.

Apparently The fishing store have never seen or heard of such damage to these reels, and are refusing to fix the part, because they are adament that it was missused and probably dropped or stepped on to cause that damage.

What great customer service... I am not one to bag a tackle store, but this isn't right.

Livebaiting Hardyheads

Just wondering what the best way to livebait hardyheads is. I usually just do through the shoulder but saw someone doing a different method the other day where his hookup rate was phenominal, they stayed on the hook well and looked like the where hooked through the head somehow. Just wondering if anyone knows any good method of rigging them up to maximise hookups and ensure they stay on the hooks longer than the traditional through the shoulder technique.

Cheers,
Adam
