Brag Board

Brag Rights, Catch and Release or Unusual Captures

Nebraska 10th july

Went out today, was very wind up until about 12.30pm the drift was very fast making it hard to hold bottom.  It died down to around 10knot easterly but we were heading back in, On the last drift I decided to try a "drift bait" same as ryan's in WAngler and got a pinky as soon as it hit the bottom so I will be trying that out a bit more.

Also caught a few undersize pinks and dhufish.

Think of BIG!!

This is a massive Mulloway, but it was wasted upon!! Anyone landing any lately?

Landing any big Bream anyone?

Gday guys,

Have all you's been heading down to the Swan or Canning River lately? Since it was raining and the water was upto the footpaths I would of thought people might be landing some Black Bream! Well it would be good to hear about some large Bream captures soon.

Hopefully I can head out after footy training this afternoon!

Cheers..

Cape York trip

Hi guys: Just got back from our annual pilgrimage to Cape York, this time having fished as far south as the Jackson River...a pretty remote area that's as close to Weipa as it is to the tip of the cape. There's a couple of motherships that fish this area, but instead we camped by the mouth of the McDonnell River, a three-hour boat run from Seisia.

Brilliant fishing, the best I've had in 10 years of trips to the cape. One the first day alone, which was largely devoted to travelling and setting up camp, we boated about 50 longtails (northern bluefin), as well as losing a heap to the big whalers that shadowed our boat. The tuna ate whatever we threw at them...slugs, soft plastics, poppers and fizzers (it's hard to beat the sight of a couple tuna greyhounding out of the water after a fizzer).

There were plenty of tuna for the rest of the week too, but the standout species was probably the big queenfish...never seen so many big ones; we probably got half a dozen in the 20lb class, which is a big slab of queenie. Dozens up to 15lb also. The trip culminated in a mad session at an island off the Jardine River, where literally every cast was getting smashed by a big critter (unstoppable GTs and the previosuly mentioned Queeniesauruses), we caught heaps, but lost lots too in 15ft of coral-filled water.

All up, a belter of a trip...barra, jacks, fingermarks in the snags, as well as goldens and giant herring on the flats. Big thanks to Tim and Lesley of Cape York Custom Sportfishing (07 40693301). Pix to follow.

[img_assist|fid=158472|thumb=0|alt=Fishcrazy's first Dollie|caption=Took Fishcrazy out to the Fads today for his first go at the Dollies. This was his first fish but was by no means the last of a hectic morning.]

Awesome day at Rotto

Had a cracking day over at Rottnest with my Dad on Thursday. Arrived at the West End to be greeted by a southerly, 3m swell and a strong northern current pushing down. One word - ugly. Slipped back down the northern side to get out of a very confused sea and started trolling for zero return. After a while we noticed that the wind had swung slightly more south east so we decided to have another look at the West End - wasn't brilliant but at least fishable.
Out went the rapala's and five minutes later double hook up - nice Salmon. Started trolling again and came across a huge show mid water on the sounder when bang, double hookup. Went back to find the fish and they had moved elsewhere, strange. Kept pulling nice salmon and then after a while we found the show of fish again. Well then she really started - salmon on rapala's, salmon hitting stickbaits boatside, salmon on plastics, salmon on bream gear etc. Two spice things up there was some YTK's mixed in with the salmon but the couple we hooked were unfortunately on the small side.
Great day was had and we eventually left them biting for a smooth run home at 3.00pm.

Exmouth 07

Well we are back so to speak and not to happy about it I might add.

We had a blast up there and got some great fish and some cracker photos which I will post up when I get the chance. Video footage was the only downer as we had numerous camera issues so we are pretty dissapointed with what we got but we still got some good stuff.

Fish caught were pretty much everything except bills this year - we had a couple of strikes and saw some but couldnt get them to connect up. NEXT YEAR :)

Weather was ordinary for the first week but then we got some good days before it turned to crap for the last day. We dragged Adam out on the last day and showed him a couple of secret spots where he got a nice red so all in all it was a great trip so stay tuned for the photos to get you all keen to get up there yourselves :)))

Sunday 25th March

Headed out sunday, got to ocean reef ramp by about 7.30, so we set off and there was a strong easterly blowing so the morning was pretty crappy. We decided to shelter near Burns Rocks and catch some whiting, we were there for about 3 hours and caught about 50 whiting, at this time the easterly had dropped off and we decided to head out further to the 40 meter mark in search for dhuies. By the time we were fishing the first spot it was now 11.30 and flat calm.

The first few drift were unsuccessful, then on the 4th we got a black arse, a few more drifts and we picked up the first dhuie weighed about 7-8 KG. a few more drifts again and this time something bigger was hooked, another dhuie which weighed just under 15kg.

Cheers
Dean

Alex's shovel noser

Not much to brag about fellas recently went to bunbury prox 3 weeks ago and got hold of a gummy shark i couldnt tell you how much it weighed. So to me it was about 1000kg on the arms by the time it had it's way with me! :)
after the 10 mins of removing my hooks and about 5 other peoples it was restored back in to the blue to fight another day. WITH A QUICK PHOTO>

Sunday Times Duhfish

How many people seen that dhufish in the sunday times today,I have never seen a dhuey that big befour think it went out to 25.6kg or something.

Question:If yourself caught a dhuefish of that size, had scales on the boat to get the weight would you keep it or release it if it was releasable yes/no.

Survived George Now for Jacob, from Stoinka and Festa.

Latest Update at Sea at 0655, from the Good ship Gea Sea.

Well the last 50hrs we have been dodging George experiencing winds from 50 to 70 knots running around the Indian Ocean trying to avoid getting slammed. The weather forcasters at Bom got it really wrong.
We are onboard the vessel Geo Sea a dive support vessel working at the N-West Shelf.
The body is tired from bouncing around and getting no sleep, poor old festa looks 20 years older boys.
We are east of barrow island at the moment doing a ship to ship cargo transfer. Then it is run away,
run away down through Mary Anne Passage then popout at the Murions then head west.
Another couple of rough days will send a few people over the edge. We have 72 people onboard and 12 divers in controlled sat living in a gas chamber, poor bastards.
I reckon Cyclone Jacob if it has a clean run with all the hot water near the coast may reach the start
of a cat 5 storm. Anyway time will tell.

Hey Nealez well done on the comp mate.

Hey Adam, Festa says Hello mate.

exmouth with bout time

went for a quick trip to exmouth last weekend to drop of an aircon .while i was there i caught up with bout time [steve ] for a half day fish.
well what a day it turned out to be .we hit the tandabiddi ramp at first light with no other boat trailers in the car park in went the boat.the plan was to troll along the back of the reef heading south and once the southerly hit we would turn and head for home.steve wonted to christen his boat with a mackeral.well that didnt take long .we were barly out the back when one of three trolling rods stared loosing line .with in a couple of minutes the first of several spanish macks was in the boat.ide say this first fish was about 6 to 8 kg. not knowing what the day was going to be like fish wise this fish was bleed and into the esky.out went the deep divers again and within minutes bang we are on again.another mackie .things were looking good .this fish was tail grabbed hooks removed and back into the drink he went. lures out 5 minutes later steves reel is screaming and bang out of the water 10foot in the air is a big big what we all believe to be a mega mack. we are all hooting and wooping ,then things get wierd .theres a bit of thrashing in the water .what i believe is steves mack or wahoo or what ever but all i know is its big.well a couple of minute of getting sum and looseing some what appears at the side of the boat has us all scrathing our heads .its a shark of about 30 to 35 kg.this is where the gaff is put down well only one thing for it as we want the lure back .i tail grab the shark and with alot of puffing and grunting i manage to drag him aboard and jump on his back croc dundee style while steve and seb are a little dubious of what ive done sanity is restored and out comes the lure .now if you thought it hard getting old bittie face into the boat getting him out was even harder.steves got its tail im wrestling the sharp end by the dorsal fin and one pectrol fin and out the back door he goes.quick check for fingers and toes a little lye down for me as i was rooted and out go the lures again.anothr mackie is tail grabbed .then a bigger one about 10 to 12 kg is dispatched and on ice.next one is a nice sized rankin cod .another mack or two later steve sinks the gaff into a nice size cobia,we put him on the lye detector 13 kg NICE FISH.next is a 19kg mackie .the place is alive with fish with free jumping macks and schools of mack tuna breaking the surface.at one stage we had a triple hooh up with sed dropping his fish mine getting sharked .which left steve to land another big mackie that went back into the drink after the lure was removed.on again .line is peeling from my reel.at the side of the boat is a nice yellow fin ,he spitts the lure and torpedos of into the blue.bye this time we are heading back towards the ramp.water death of about 25 meters.one of the reels starts sreaming again .sebs go. what the f@#$k.swimming into view is what i pick as a small blue marlin with a big bite mark out of his back.this is an unbelievable day of action .we get the marlin into the boat and inspect the wounds .this fella has chuncks out of him all over and is in very poor condition.the biggest wound is starting to heal and looks to be a couple of weeks old.a quick couple of pics and hes back in the drink .he takes quite a bit of time to revive .even to the point where i didnt like his chances of survival as his stomach was empty and he was landed in about 1 minute with no jumps no screaming runs nothing .as we were only trolling at about 5 knots im think mr marlin thoght all his birthdays had come at once with an easy meal but no its our lure and its not filling his belly.thats the last fish for the trip .
we are back at steves by about 1.30.im on the road headed back to tom price by 2.30 what a great day
ide like to thank steve for the oppurtunity to get a ride on his boat.i had a blast .great bloke .great boat and great fishing.what esle could you ask for

Woodies Surprise...

Went to have a morning flick at woodman point this morning. Thought they maybe a few skippy, herring or even salmon trout around. Was really hoping for bonito. But low and behold.....15mins later after the first cast....a mini sambo jumped on my soft plastic....managed another half a dozen more later...plus the usual herring.

Thats another species caught on the old Bass Minnow.

Hoju's mini sambo

Hi Guys, Iv been into LBG for about 15 yrs. I started fishing the cliffs of steep point once i hit the age of 13.
Caught many big fish from Mackeal to YTK and sailfish from the rocks.
I love the danger aspect but treat the ocean with respect and never take risks
Well here are some pictures of mine
They maynot be fish iv caught recently but i thought i would share some of the fish iv caught with ya's from over the years..

Enjoy :)

Weekend Photo's from the South

Well it was a great weekend to get away with near on perfect conditions all long weekend. The only time that it looked nasty was halfway through the grand final, which was time spent locked away watching the Eagles have a magnificent win.

We spent quite a bit of time exploring spots over the weekend and getting a good idea of what fishes well in what wind and swell conditions. We managed to get a line wet a few times but didn't have much luck on the fish front, not that we tried excessively hard as the beer was cold and the scenery beautiful. There's something to be said about the south coast in spring when all the wild flowers come out and the drive into spots are rolling coast hills covering in a multitude of blues, yellows, pinks and greens that blend into a technicolour dream.

The best fishing we had over the weekend was throwing little hard bodies and skitter poppers into hordes of salmon trout and herring that were wanting to smash anything that went in the water. Sight fishing has to be one of my favourite methods of fishing and watching these little 30-40cm fish fight over who was going to smash the lure first was a sight to be seen. The little salmon trout are awesome jumpers too, providing so much fun on light gear it brings a tear to your eye having to call an end to the session.

Thats a brief summary of my weekend, plenty of cold ones, lots of exploring and spot checking and a few magical fishing moments. Hope you all had a great weekend as well.

Cheers,
Adam

Sunday's Fishing Charter Results

Was a great day out on the water yesterday with light westerlies which threatened to blow up all day but didn't, giving the guys an opportunity to get into some fish. I will add a few photos to this thread a bit later on when I get some free time. I have just viewed the video footage which features Shizz dropping plenty of fish but doing well to land a couple of beauties. KC also makes quite a few appearances being the jigging master for the day. The other main notable mention has to goto Scotty 'no-fish' Streetfighter who took out the best drinker on deck award, but that was about it.

Photos and Videos to come. Many thanks goes to Honsu for organising the day.

Dewy's Rowley Shoals Trip

All of the sailfish we got on the trip put on an awesome arial show. It was common place over the week to see fish not necessarily hooked, tail walk along the surface for 100 plus meters. We had a few jump clean out of the water inside 25 meters of the boat while eating breakfast a couple of times.
This place is certainly one you will not forget for fishing. Its not the place you get to go every day so remember that when it comes to looking at the prices.

I hope to return but unfortunately as of next year and onwards the lagoons will be off limits to fishing. I did not get any great fishing sessions in the lagoons this trip but some of the other fellows really got into it catching really good coral trout and heaps of other stuff. You will certainly see some awesome fish in amoungst them though.

I did not have a video camera myself. Bugger!! But still got plenty of happy snaps. :)

Friday's Fishing Report

We headed out from Mindarie today looking for a few fish. First drop resulted in a nice Harlequin for Tapout and things were looking good. Well, it didn't take long for things to change with me pulling up about half a dozen rock cod in a row. We headed to spot after spot looking for something solid and around 10am we finally found something. I got absolutely smoked by a big fish that stole a solid 50m of line off me on tight drag before burying me in the reef. Assuming it was a samsonfish we went around and tried again, same spot, bam and an identical thump thump and run had me putting the curry on. Within a couple of minutes I had him off the bottom and the fight pretty much won, sambo 1 onboard, photo'd and released. Back around we went and Tapout got taught his lesson by a big momma who only took 10 seconds to bury him. After another bustoff to me we drifted off the back where I picked up a just sized pink snapper and Tapout got a nice 50cm fish. After a couple more drifts over it seemed the fish had moved on and so did we.

Heading wider we only found more rock cod and wrasse which were starting to get very frustrating. Tapout managed to hook into a nice queenie which fought solidly the whole way to the surface, even taking line at one stage. After a few more drifts out wide with no success we headed back into the sambo patch. First drift turned out to be a nice 55cm pinky for Tapout and a blackass and blue devilfish double header for me, we finally thought the fish were going to start coming on. Back and around over the lump again had another of those typical thump thump bang hookups and the sambo's were back. Landing the second I was stoked just to have something giving me a hard time, so back and around we went again and my 3rd was hooked, fought, video'd, photo'd and released. We then headed in closer as we'd both had enough. A couple of drifts over the inshore lumps provided no success and we called it a day.

We ended up with 3 pinks, 1 queenie, 1 harlequin, 1 breaksea and 2 fox fish. Not too bad of a bag considering how quiet it was out there, but it was good to be out there and the conditions were magical. Heres hoping the conditions hold out for the weekend and the boys going on the charter on Sunday. :)

Cheers,
Adam
