Canning Breaming
Submitted by Davy_G on Sat, 2012-12-22 19:31Hi All,
Been having a few quality sessions wading the canning over the past week, plenty of hard fighting bream and flathead landed, ZMan 2.5inch grubs doing most of the damage as usual!
Here are the two best from the past week, A 35cm Breamski that would have been pushing a kilo and a similiar weighted Lizard going 43,
Hopefully more to come!
Cheers,

Big Swan River Flathead
Submitted by Jac54 on Fri, 2012-12-21 20:35Things were going very slow around Applecross Way with only a few small Flatties around 40cm and heaps of blowies been caught with my mate Mitch.
I changed to an old hardbody lure with rusty hooks that I hadn't used for a while. Something had a bite but I only felt a dead weight as I was reeling in.
Soon as this monster saw me it took off. We were about 50-60 metres off shore and bringing in this beast on light gear was quite a task. This Flattie came in at 61cm which is the biggest I've ever seen in nearly 17yrs of fishing in the River. Previous best was 55cm and I thought that was big! It was released as I do with all fish.

Been a while between fish
Submitted by Kal on Wed, 2012-12-19 23:37At a kinda work do for the boys on the season opener (festivous for the rest of us) the 3 B , i had a great idea . A couple of mates were were down from the mines ,so i hit them up for a fish , on monday .Got a crew sorted out so the next day i spend 6 hours cleaning the mulch out of the boat ,pumpimg tyres unsiezing the gockey wheel ,and the pad locks .Rang a mate to see if he wants to take the boat for a quick run down the river,he said his already down there but out of beer,so headed down boat still runs a couple of calls to confirm there spots and ill pick them up in the morning on the way through.
Headed out from hillarys to one of my spots not much action 1 bauldie ,so moved on to another ,lots of small fish and a black ass , one of my mates that drank too much at the river the day before started burleying for us, so we kept drifting away from the spot for a while then i got a good bite ,its started to take a bit of line so i took it easy on it to make sure i dont drop it . The thought of sambo went through mind then sting ray then when i saw colour ,i was still thing ray till it popped up i thought f@#k YEH dhuie ,My new PB 14kg and 94 cms .

Mantas and Mahi
Submitted by soupster51 on Wed, 2012-12-19 03:45Yet another day in paradise. We loaded up the boat with wives, kids and dive gear and headed out for morning swim with the manta rays. The mantas put on a show, being on the surface the entire 90 minutes we were there. Sometimes they can be skittish if you get too cloae, not this time. One actually ran its wing along my arm at one stage, absolutely awesome to be so close to these animals. Once the show was over I took the boat back, ditched everyone except one mate and loaded up the fishing gear. The plan was to get stuck into the mahi and boy did we do that. The plan was to put some on ice and then switch to the light gear. We found the school and I had one lure out, I had the second one in my hand ready to go when the first one got nailed - oh yeah it's going to be a good day. I had my mate wind in seven mahi and then I said, it's my turn. Out came the 3-5kg bream stick and 30 seconds after the pink rictor jellybabe was in the water I was hooked up to a small mahi. Five minutes later she was inboard. Time to go home, trolling only the jellybabe and just to ice the cake it got nailed by a bigger mahi. This one took a little longer and was a bit bigger. Nothing huge over the four hour period but topped off with some great fun at the end. Off to the pub for dinner, love this place.

30kg Sambo.. on Stella 5k
Submitted by BunburyYakfisha on Mon, 2012-12-17 13:49Hi all.
Went out fishing yesterday with a couple mates hoping to bagg out on dhus. but didnt get any tho..
Afters hours of fishing and not much luck, i decided to have one last drift before we changed spots..i dropped down on last time
and thats when the drag of the Stella 5000sw was screaming like never before, and within seconds i was nearly spooled so we chased it,
after 15mins of hard longs runs, a 30kg sambo popped up. It was a pretty good effort for 30lb braid.
Anyway here some pics.
Cheers Jesse

Few fish from the canning
Submitted by SandGroper84 on Sun, 2012-12-16 20:14Gday members, here is a few of the fish I've caught in the canning over the past 7 days.
Starting from the top is a 50cm flatty caught on canning flats on a Zman 2.5" grub in bloodworm, the fight with this fish was very average, no long runs, no big head shakes, just dead weight.
Second is a 42cm fork length bream caught under canning bridge on raffles side of the bridge on Zman 2.5" grub in motor oil great fight amongst the pylons, first time I've taken a photo using the timer on my camera.
Third is another stud bream of 44cm to the fork again caught under the canning bridge on raffles side and yeah you guessed it caught using Zman 2.5" grub in bloodworm, this fish was in great shape and geez did it pull.
Finally is my personal favourite fish to catch in the canning, a 30cm fork length Tarwine, fish was caught on the flats next to canning bridge, put up a great fight, taking 3 screaming runs before being landed.
All of the fish were released to fight another day.
Also any tips on how to take quality photos of bream and flathead would be much apprieciated, been playing around with different angles, but still haven't taken the perfect shot as yet.
Regards Matt

First Day of the new fishing season
Submitted by Lucky Last Cast on Sun, 2012-12-16 19:51Well it was an awesome day out on the water today. With the weather playing ball with the Temp expected to be 30 today and sunny.
We started the day with a cooked breakfast for the boys when they arrived, then we were on our way.
We left the jetty at 5-25 and headed to our first spot, and it was on!
We then headed to a number of other different spots where even a shark was caught. It was HUGE.
With the boys bringing up fish and some bringing up their breakfast.
Some of the boys got so tired they even had a quick kip or what I like to call "a Nana Nap"
We arrived back at the jetty at 3pm.
All in all it was an awesome day out and it can only get better.
Have put in some picks for u all to see.

My first size pink this morning
Submitted by tim-o on Sun, 2012-12-16 14:17OK, so its not really braging size but I targeted these over winter inshore a few times without success (have gotten just undersize dhus and a few KGs tho)but this time I didnt want to head to the regular hunting grounds off scabs out of fear of snaggin a cray pot on the way, so I just headed a few minutes out of the marina to a spot in 7m, dropped the pick and got the burley going. Didnt take long before I got this fella and soon after I pulled the hooks on another. Content with my catch and enough light around I headed out to the 3 mile to sound up some ground and threw the lures out at the same time, sooo many cray pots out there, headed out to the 20s and grabbed some whiting and came in before the seabreeze (and the traffic). No waiting to launch or retrieve, and glad to have a prime parking spot, man the carpark was chockers. Snap n chips for lunch

New Tender Boat
Submitted by Outrageous on Thu, 2012-12-13 13:03Hi All,
Enclosed is a pic of our new tender boat " The Tender", Picked it up from Millard Marine who supplied it with a requested 150 Verado on it. We had great service and was deliveried on agreed date from these guys.
I'm lucky enough to be in shares with a mate on our two boats now - It works great for us as we fish, dive and socialise at the shack and at home together.
We brought the new tender so we can drag around abit and get into some other places easy, with out the worry if we ding it up a bit (dirt roads and shallow creeks).
Am very happy with the new tender - but they are a wet boat and it also bangs more than the outrage too (may being 2 tonne lighter has something to do with this)
Boat is a Barcrusher 610 WR with 150 Verado and Lorance HDS7 with sidescan.
Cheers

If only I had more time...
Submitted by soupster51 on Tue, 2012-12-11 17:47Took Friday off, as you do, and went in search of a massive mahi school I came across the previous Saturday. I ran the reef first and nailed three wahoo in the hour it took to get along it, including a double hook-up. Awesome fun when I was the only one fishing. After leaving the reef it didn't take too long to find the mahi. The rictor dorado did most of the damage with eight mahi coming into the boat over the next two hours. Initially I was fishing with four mahi lures out; this only ended up in absolute mayhem. Hooked up one and got into the boat just as another lure did it's job, with the second one in the boat and a bit of blood on the deck from two fish that weren't even on ice yet a third mahi joins the party. Fighting a quality mahi in a choppy sea and blood in the deck made for a bit of laughter from my mate who was driving as he was sure I was going in the piss. Luckily I didn't and we had our three mahi on ice shortly after. We then dropped to two lures only: only to get a double hook-up about five minutes later. I could honest say I saw 30 mahi airborne in the two hours I was in the school, nat geo sort of stuff. I left them biting to take the family for a snorkel with the mantas, man I'm going to miss this place.

old mans KGW
Submitted by jarrid on Tue, 2012-12-11 06:43i work in henderson and got the call yesterday from my old man requesting weather details. "like a sheet of glass" was my response, so he packed up the tinny and headed out from woodies towards garden island / ffb.
he only had an hour or so to fish and when i called him he had only picked up a few wrasse and rockies, but when he called me back he had landed a king george. he called it for 60cm but he is a compulsive liar so i got him to take a photo next to a ruler and it came in at "only" 55cm. he reckons it weighed 1.5kg but as i said, he is a liar so take that with a grain of salt.
either way, nice KG and he was pretty stoked.
p.s. it sucks working next to the water on days like yesterday.
