!!Ally boat builder Needed!!
Submitted by Paul200990 on Wed, 2019-12-25 10:20needing a welder/ally boat builder to do an inspection on my boat for insurance purposes. I know it’s Christmas time
but really could use a favour off someone so I can get this claim accepted. Little crack in the hull after hitting something out wide :(
second pic is for the possible corrosion comments. Just dried salt. Abit of acid wash and it's gone.
added a couple pics of the hull after an acid hull clean for the guys that think there is corrosion. It was a quick one only took about 3 mins so wasn't a proper clean

Engine Vibration
Submitted by Bradmac73 on Fri, 2019-12-20 10:24
I have a Merc 175 2 stroke, 2006 model which runs perfectly at speed, idles perfectly, but vibrates like a mo fo when doing less than about 10 knots. Given it runs smoothly, I have (perhaps incorrectly) assumed it is either a drive line issue or something outside of an engine issue that is creating the vibration.
Has anyone had a similar issue, or ideas as to what to check?
cheers

Submitted by guyph_01 on Thu, 2019-12-19 21:03Hi,

Or if someone could let me know where I can find this info.
I tried to call Noosa in OLD but they say they I need to pay $150 so they can check the archives. And also that I have to wait till about mid Jan as it the holidays and they won't be able to do so till then!! Not Helpful!
Thx

Trailer washdown setup
Submitted by ranmar850 on Wed, 2019-12-18 21:58I mentioned, in another thread a while ago, that I was going to build a setup to wash down the boat trailer without getting down on my knees with a hose EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I've always been very particular, but it gets to be a lot of work when you are going out every day pulling pots. It took a bit longer than planned, but I've been using it for a while now, and it works well. I have the garden retic on a bore, which is good water, so I use that for pressure and volume for the wash underneath. It is buried in the driveway, 25mm pvc feeding those big stainless Raindrop sprinklers. Overhead, I'm just running three ordinary sprinklers on 12mm poly, from the garden hose, mounted on the carport. I have an inline fitting to inject saltaway or vinegar in to the feed for that.
So I reverse in until the utes' front wheels are up on the kerb. this puts the bottom sprinklers under the transom and the top sprinklers right over the rocket launcher. turn it all on, reverse in slowly until I hit the stops. Then the sides get a quick hose down, as well as the deck and outboard. job done. I've done a short video of it in action on Youtube--looks like it does a better job than you are likely to do with a hose.

Outboard flushing question
Submitted by Paul_86 on Mon, 2019-12-16 12:00G’day all,
Just got a question about flushing my outboard engine, it’s a Yamaha 2017 70HP 4 stroke, I always flush with decent muffs immediately after use for at least 5mins, up to 10mins, I notice a few days later tho that I’ve got some dry salt build up coming out of a hole on leg of the engine. Anyone know what this is from and how I can prevent it happening?
Cheers Paul

Wheel Hub Cone Removal
Submitted by SpotHound on Fri, 2019-12-13 21:30For the life of me I can't get the cones/cups/races or whatever you call them out of my hubs to change bearings.
I'm hitting it with a 1/2" mild steel rod and a 2 pound gympie hammer and they never move.
The hub is sitting on concrete.
Any tips?
Can I cahnge bearings without changing the cones?

are anodes needed/used on 11 foot dinghy
Submitted by Paul N on Tue, 2019-12-03 13:49I have just picked up a second hand aluminium dinghy to use as a cartopper when caravanning .There is a small amount of pitting in the aluminium but nothing too bad but was hoping to prevent any further deterioration . Having always had glass boats I was wondering if anyone uses sacrificial anodes on there dinghy . If so , where do you put them . Do they need to be placed below the waterline ( could be an issue on a small dinghy ) or would bolting one to a seat be as effective.
Any info would be appreciated .
Cheers

Connecting Suzuki NMEA Interface
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2019-12-02 20:04Hopefully someone's been through this issue.
I've bought the Suzuki Interface Cable and have a NMEA backbone ready to plug it into but... the interface cable plug is the same as my DF90A plug i.e. both female.
Does this mean I need to fork out another $100 for the adapter cable? I plan on taping up the trim cable plug as the analogue gauge is fine.
Cheers JF

Jabsco Washdown Pump Fault
Submitted by emem on Sat, 2019-11-30 13:29Have a Jabsco Par Max 4.0 60 PSI Auto Washdown Pump fitted to boat.
It has worked perfectly for 4 years until after sitting unused for 6 months, has now lost a lot of pressure. Have pulled pump apart , checked top mounted filter, checked all hose fittings and all seems good.
The pump normally operates only when the spray nozzle trigger is activated, however the motor now works constantly when switched on. The problem is the same on both fresh and saltwater washing settings ( only ever use the fresh water setting).
Seems as though it will not prime.
Any help appreciated thanks.

Boat feels bogged down before getting on plane
Submitted by beau on Thu, 2019-11-28 17:05Hey guys as title suggests, my boat feels "bogged down" in the water from about the 4-8knot range while just cruising.
In this speed range the ass end drops and the nose picks up like it wants to take off on the plane, motor almost sounds like it's over revving for the speed the boat is actually going, and the wake coming off the back is considerably larger than all the other boats around me whilst traveling through the marina. Once on the plane everything seems sweet.
Boat is a 5.2m side console ali with a 115hp suzi on the back. The suzi is the max rated hp for this hull. I dont think forward ballast is the answer as it rides relatively flat once on the plane.
Could a hydrofoil, prop change, or trim tabs be the answer?

leaking helm gasket - what is the best gasket glue?
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Tue, 2019-11-26 11:05Hi all
my seastar helm has had a slow leak from the backplate - i had to pull it out yesterday to install a new pod on top of my helm (for electronics) and pulled the back off to inspect - the gasket is intact but obviously leaking - a new one is not expensive but ~2-4 weeks ex USA, dont want to wait that long so was going to use Permatex Anaerobic Flange Sealant to do the job
any tips, do's donts

Prop Question - Possible SS Upgrade
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Tue, 2019-11-19 13:44I've been playing around with props and went from an ali 3 balde 17 pitch to an ali 17 pitch 4 blade and get the stern lift I was after but lost a couple of knots off the top end. I decided to fit an ali 19 pitch 3 blade prop and tried her out on the weekend and am getting some stern lift and faster top end speeds by a knot or two at 300rpm less (6300 down to 6000) and using a lot less fuel (0.66L/mile vs 0.8L/mile) but I've lost a bit of accelaration off the mark and she's out of the hole a bit slower later than the previous props which I was expecting.
The $650 question is: if I upgrade to a SS 3 blade 19 pitch am I going to gain back some of that acceleration and holeshot due to less flex in the blades and possibly gain on the top end?
