thinking of going the round cups or the dual feed ones? I got a Honda 200bf also

Battery issue or Honda 200 issue???
Submitted by Paul200990 on Fri, 2019-11-08 19:27just got a new 2018 Honda put on and decided to move the batteries up fed under the cab,
looka like in about a week and abit one of my batteries has died and won’t hold any load.
can kick it overnight just one 1 bat but switching over to 2 and nothing. Flick it back over and switch it to 1 and kick her over and then switch back to 2 and she charges and 13.4v the slowly oncrasss to 14v when the other batter charges at 14.8v ( good old Honda magneto). To me this sounds like I got a dead battery. Thought would be amazing. I’m running a BEP dual battery switch. Also since I have moved the batteries over and now my gauges are not indicating voltage and rpm on the digital nmea gauges and also engine temps and what not. Is there something I missed when wiring them up again?
Pic attached of how I have done it.

Mechanical or digital shift
Submitted by Sea goat on Fri, 2019-11-08 12:38Hi guys, am looking at one of the new 200hp v6 mercury engines, and looks like I have a choice between mechanical or digital shift. I have never used digital shift before, and have little understanding of the difference so was just after people’s thoughts on whether it warrants the additional cost? From what I understand it’s supposed to be smoother? Any thoughts as to which would be more reliable?
Any advice greatly appreciated!!!
cheers!

motor cutting out while idling and cutting out when put inot gear
Submitted by MALANA605 on Sun, 2019-11-03 11:31Hi all, Im having an issue with my motor cutting out when idling, went out with my son this morning and the motor cut out whilst in nuetral, I went to start the motor and it started and then a few seconds later it cut out. this happened several times, i first removed the fuel line from the motor to ensure fuel was getting through which it was and then i pumped the line a few times and it did eventually start and we raced back to hillarys, could it be something simple as dirty fuel/ i do keep the tank full at all times and do have a water seperator on the boat which does show some sediment on the bottom is there an additive that can be added or should i empty the tank completely. My other thought was that there could be a blockage in the line somewhere, does the fuel have a filter that could bve blocked with sediment
thanks for any advice forthcoming

Trim tabs???
Submitted by Paul200990 on Sat, 2019-11-02 08:17Hey guys,
im looking at buying some trim tabs for my plate boat. It’s about 6.3m of hull and about 7.3-4mloa
because it’s a hard top has another more weight up top and when the wind hits it, it tends to list pretty well like you would suspect. Either lenco or Bennett are on the cards but curious if anyone has had any issues with the hydraulic motor on the Bennett’s ? I’m swaying toward lenco because it’s an electrical system and I would think be a lot more responsive. I have seen the kits for a 12”x12” kits for around 800 dollars and I’ll just install myself. To me that seems abit cheap though.
Love some feedback if anyone has eother the lenco or Benny’s or any others.
Thanks for your help :)

New Alu boat - hull & anode questions
Submitted by mustardfire on Fri, 2019-10-18 21:53So, I picked up my first brand new aluminimum boat and am looking for a little advice (had an old glass boat before). First use was on the water for a weekend 3 days/2nights straight. Pulled it out after and gave it a good clean with salt away. After this one outing I've noticed a pronounced water line, below that it is discoloured and has heaps of salt pits I cant seem to remove. Seems strange that the flap (which is isolated on plastic hinges) isnt discoloured at all though. Also the anode has copped a bit of wear from this one use.
Is this all "normal" ? Just keen to get an oppinoin as I dont have alot of experience with ally boats. Thanks a million!

motor doesnt always start when its in neutral
Submitted by MALANA605 on Fri, 2019-10-11 14:15Hi all, I am hoping someone can help. I have a honda 130 BF and ocasionally it wont restart. i will turn the motor off to fish and when i go to start it again there is nothing, the batteries are only 2 years old and have plenty of charge, the issue seems to be the throttle control itself, as it only strats after moving the throttle control silghlty into gear and then back to nuetral many times. i have a seperator on the fuel line so im discounting bad feul as it runs perfect when going. could it be something as simple as connection points or do throttles need to be replaced occasionally. Your anticipated answers are very much appreciated

115 MERC fourstroke ISSUES
Submitted by Mitch Westy on Fri, 2019-10-11 09:48Seeking some advice.
I have a westerberg with a 2016 115 CT model mercury fourstroke. It's done about 160 hrs. Always be serviced and the motor runs like a dream 99% of the time. It seems strange but sometimes on my way back in from a fishing or diving expedition where I've been cruising for about 30 mins at 20 knots i get to the river and have to cruise up the river for 10 mims doing 8 knots it randomly skips a beat and the motor breaks down. On the way out it runs fine, and while I'm about and about no issue. Seems to only happen when ive been cruising up the river doing 8 knots for about 5 mins at around 2, 2.5 thousand revs after I've been out all day. Not sure if its related to the motor being hot after being used all day.
I took it to the mechanic I thought it may have been spark plugs or fuel related. He went over all the fuel system, ran the computer, changed the spark plugs, filters checked everything and said he couldn' find an issue. Went to rotto and back, did the exact same things on the way back in, after 5 mins of cruising back up the river the motor revs just drop up and down, almost like I've hit something. If i drive faster and get the revs up it sound beautiful, but if i go down to around 2.5 thousand revs just under planing it would do it again. I've tried priming the fuel, making sure theres no water in the fuel filter. Spark plugs have been replaced. All fuel lines replaced. I'm running out of ideas, can anyone help.

Bilge pump wiring
Submitted by PBS on Wed, 2019-10-09 15:59
Do you recon this is Ok for this type of boat and usage?
I've got a 22ft centre console that I'm doing a tidy up on.
It mainly sits under cover on the trailer but sometimes on a mooring or at anchor at Rottnest.
The only times I've had water in the bilge is when there has been a lot of water on the deck from thunderstorms
or the bung has been left out , fortunately it can also be screwed up from the inside as well.
The pump has its own inbuilt float switch and is pretty quiet so it's not immediatlely
obvious that it's going.
I thought if I wire the pump in parallel with a truck reversing beeper I can't miss that it's going.
Because it sits under cover on the trailer I don't want the pump wired to the hot side of the battery
all the time and I don't want it on a switch because they can be left off or on inadvertently.
I thought if connected to the battery switch It can't be left on of off inadvertently.
The boat has one battery one motor and one house circuit so I bought a
4 position battery switch and connected
The hot positive to 2
motor and house loads to 1
bilge pump to common
this way when the switch is on
Off - nothing is powered
1 - nothing is powered
2 - only the bilge pump is powered
1+2 - everything is powered
My logic is if the boat is running the pump can only be on,
but can be left on when the boat is on anchor by putting the battery switch on 2.
I put a circuit breaker to protect the wireing and a bullet connector in the positive to the bilge pump so it can be disconnected if needed,
and a momentary switch on the manual wire so I can turn it on manually to mop up
a small amount of water that isn't enough to trigger the float switch.
The beeper goes whether the pump is going on auto or manual.
So far no flames or water.

Boat storage?
Submitted by Sea goat on Fri, 2019-10-04 07:25Hi guys.
up until now I have been able to keep my boat in the garage, but with a bigger boat this likely won’t be possible, or at the least a mega pain.
will be looking to keep it in the driveway, which unfortunately doesn’t have much shade, and angles slightly downwards. likely to be fibreglass. Apart from a good cover, is there anything else I need should be doing? Given Perth weather conditions how do you ensure your fuel stays ok? What about batteries/oil etc, or water getting in the hull? Any issues with fibreglass becoming brittle/discoloured?
i guess security is an obvious issue, so was thinking sensor lights, and maybe some cctv setup, and last resort there’s always insurance I guess.
any major issues if the bow is slightly down on a slope?
Thanks heaps!
goat.

Old Quintrex dinghy seat removal
Submitted by Paul N on Fri, 2019-09-27 13:42I have an old 1968 Quintrex champion aluminum dinghy that I use as
a car topper . I want to move the rear seat forward but can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the seat out .
There are no riverts or bolts holding it in and I can tap it with a hammer and move it about an inch
back and forth but no further . Does anyone have any idea how these seats were fixed in place . There is foam under the seat
and no visible signs of how it is fixed in . The front seat is bolted in and the middle one is welded .
only have one pic on my phone but gives you the idea of layout
cheers Paul

upgrade
Submitted by Sea goat on Fri, 2019-09-13 15:49Hi guys.
was hoping to get some advice.
AM slowly starting to approach a time where i will be loking to upgrade my current stacer 5.39 sea runner. this has bene my first boat, and have been super happy, but will be looking to go a bit bigger given an expanding family, and also getting more experienced so hoping to push things a bit harder.
Hopefully will be looking at a plate aluminium as i want sometihing pretty tough that rides well, but may struggle to tow a fibreglass, and do a lot of boating myself, so need ot be able to habndle solo.
Problem is i dont really know where to start my research as am not familiar with many brands.
It will be primarily a fishing vessel.
solo launch and retrieve is a must.
will be brinign the wife and little one, so need ot be capable of doing occaisonal overnight stay at rotto etc.
towed by a prado with 2.5tonne towing capacity
ride well ( im starting to feel the knocks a bit)!
cuddy preffered
not intersted in the river, so needs to be an ocean going boat.
looking at something about 6.7m, anyhting bigger wont fit in the garage, and hardotps not really an option because of this.
rough budget or around 100k
so far looked at the barcrucsher 6.7c as will be able to fit in the garage which is also important. but not sure if they live up to the price tag?
have heard god things about razorline and surtees.
I am a year or so off, but want to take the opportunity of the boatshow to explore a few diffent names and get some info.
I was after some reccomendations of anything you more experience boaties think may fit the bill, and personal experiences, so i can do some digging!
Any advice greatly appreciated!!
cheers

What's your go to polish for your glass boat?

About to tackle the reefie with the polish prior to summer. What are peoples preferred brands and why? Also what are your thoughts on hand polishing v mechanical (electric) polishers particularly on the areas of glass that have non slip finish or do you just avoid these areas?
Appreciate any thoughts youo have.

Prop speed or other coatings - any recommendations?
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Thu, 2019-08-22 13:37For people who keep their boats in the water - any products you have used on props that assist to reduce growth sticking?
I have used propspeed in the past - I understand you can now buy it retail along with a few other brands (prop one/gold) - to be honest I find prop speed to be ok -but at ~300 bucks a pop (to pay someone to do props) I don't think its worth it
It retails at 250 and the process of applying it is not easy
lanoguard works -just not for long!
