Trailer Stone protector
Submitted by Stewk on Sat, 2015-05-16 11:58Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone has any good ideas where I could get a stone protector to fit on my 4.5t Dumbier trailer.
I've been looking at a few on Ebay, but probably best to get one local....
Any pictures or ideas?

Quick project-fuel filters
Submitted by Rob H on Sat, 2015-05-16 10:42My fuel filter setup had been annoying me so decided to make it a bit more user friendly and neat.
Little point in having glass bowls if
a/ you cant see into them easily
b/ cant drain them easily
also the housings were steel and rusty, got some alloy heads from BLA $20 each.
Note that (in last pic) electrical wiring should NEVER be bundled with fuel lines, as a short circuit can then become a large barbecue.
This will be setup properly when I get a mounting clamp.
Got some alloy angle and knocked up a bracket
Mounted under the outboard well
Just need some hydraulic clamps to secure hoses properly and done.

Replacing outboard impellors
Submitted by Rob H on Sat, 2015-05-16 10:28maybe of interest to those guys new to fiddling with their outboards
dropped the legs off my outboards to check the impellors, these pics show what I consider about the point they should be replaced-note the curve on the blades.
An outboard that has sat for a number of years without running could get this without any hours.
These impellors have about 250hrs but Ive dropped them every 100 to check.
It is such a simple job that everyone should know how to do it, like changing a tyre.
45 minutes a side.
The bottom plate and impellor housing look in perfect condition so only swapped the impellor.
If you run in shallow sandy water, mud, or if you see stirred up bottom alot where you fish (from propwash) it certainly can wear ALOT faster!
interior foam
Submitted by lovejones on Fri, 2015-05-15 22:45So, one of the biggest (can i call it commodity) used is foam, we have it in our lounge suites, matress, dining charis, cars......its also used in packing protection, foam.
foam is used for so much, yet it is so hard to find, and if you find a shop like clarke its so bloody expensive!
i have to re upholster my seats on my boat, and the majority of the foam is well worn, has anyone else had to re do thiers? where did you get it from, was it expensive?
we have pretty much got to re vamp the interior of the boat due to age, sun damage and neglect and trying to source some hardware, dressings etc at a reasonable affordable price here in aus is harder than i imagined. I have frequented whitworths, but it would be nice to look at what else is out there other than what they offer, though so far i find the prices they have to be pretty darn reasonable.
im interested to know where others shop.

NW location boaters
Submitted by lovejones on Fri, 2015-05-15 19:15Hi,
Just wondering if there is anyone in or around karratha on here and has a good knowledge of boats (esp DIY) that may be able to look at my cabin.
i have an area in my cabin that was used as a toilet (its in the middle of the cabin!) , however we dont have a toilet, and wont be getting one, but would like to look at moving the fibreglass recess area the toilet sat in to allow for the floor to be able to walk on. I dont want to go in gung-ho with a saw until i know that by removing the walls of this i am not causing any structural damage to the actual boat.
Trailer refurb
Submitted by bobakers on Fri, 2015-05-15 10:12Hi all
Am slowly doing up my Baron Sportsman and am up to the trailer. Trailer is used for solo launching and retrieval and under current setup is difficult to drive the boat on as I have only 8” to aim at with the two rear rollers.

I was looking at cutting approx. 300 mm from the back of trailer, removing rear black bottom and side rollers and fitting a set of six roller, pivoting wobble brackets
Then moving the winch post/ bow roller back 200 mm to allow the addition of a 4th set of keel rollers. (the keel stops approx. 500 mm from the transom.) If need be I can move the suspension back 200mm if required to maintain sufficient tow ball load.
The outcome should look like this:

So am I heading in the right direction to achieve the end result of adequately supporting the boat and being able to drive on/drive off?
Thanks
Bob

Cheap fixes
Submitted by z00m on Mon, 2015-05-11 16:36I just finished putting put $7 worth of parts into my bimini to get it back into service and it got me thinking about how the simple things seem to make me happy when working on the boat. One of the main pole ends snapped on my second last trip out last wednesday night. Lucky we left while it was still light and could secure the folded bimini and not lose the trip out.
Maybe you have a story of a cheap or simple fix that made a big difference to your boat?

Help & advice for adding secondary tilt switch
Submitted by Ashen on Sat, 2015-05-09 10:52Hi guys.
My motor doesnt have a second tilt switch. I would like to add one on the transom. The motor is a 1988 Johnson v4 120hp. Do I simply buy a 3 way switch and piggy back the wires on the tilt switch located on the motor's controller?
Many thanks in advance.

Lowrance Fuel Flow
Submitted by Subaquatic on Fri, 2015-05-08 09:41I have been waiting for a new Lowrance EP-60R for a few months now. The Lowrance (Navico) agent has just confirmed that they only get a few per month from the manufacturer, and haven't even fulfilled last years backorder. That tells me that I'm still about a year off, and when I do get it, its a product that Lowrance clearly isn't interested in selling or supporting.
So, the question is, has anyone found a good fuel flow meter that works on N2K networks, and interfaces with nicely with a HDS?

Raymarine WiFish
Submitted by Ashen on Sat, 2015-05-02 09:13Has anyone used Raymarine wifish on their phone or tablet? If so, are you able to split the views so that the dragonfly unit shows the chartplotter and the phone/tablet shows the sounder views?
Planning to buy a Raymarine Dragonfly 5 Pro for my new 18ft runabout. :)

Towable boat covers
Submitted by ranmar850 on Sat, 2015-05-02 07:36Does anyone know of a good, ready-made towable boat cover to fit a 5.6m cuddy cabin? All of those I have looked at are either not towable or are only rated to 60km/hr.

GT Fiberglass and Clubmarine- Job Well done
Submitted by Subaquatic on Thu, 2015-04-30 18:36Recently had an "incident" on the Leisurecat that ended up doing some significant damage to the front end.
Happened on a Friday night around 9pm. I called GT fiberglass the next day (Saturday), and Greg was around that Sunday morning. Quote was emailed later that day.
Online claim was submitted on Monday morning, and was approved Wednesday. Greg at GT Fiberglass showed up the following Tuesday, and all the work was done by Thursday morning.
The entire process took less than 2 weeks from accident to full repair.
The work was VERY well done, and Greg even went as far as fixing a few other nicks and dings for me.
Great to have such quality insurers and repairs available to us. Im very impressed, and would highly recommmend Greg for ANY fiberglass work.
I got Gregs details from Fishwrecked, so I thought it was only fair to pay it forward. Thanks to all.

Yamaha F150 Leaking trim ram seal
Submitted by big john on Mon, 2015-04-27 09:26G'day Fishwreckers,
My port side trim ram is weeping oil from under the screw cap at the 'top' of the ram cylinder. Been looking on the net trying to work out if this is an easy fix or not.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem/repair? Happy to get it done by a mechanic if need be but just after some information if it's possible to do it myself.
Cheers John

Deck wash installation
Submitted by Percula on Fri, 2015-04-24 21:57Hi All
Want to install a deck wash in the tub over the weekend, but unsure of how to fix it.
I have a coraline with the pickup already installed. Wondering what you guys fix the pump to.
Would it be fine to fix it to the bottom of the side pocket, or even the inside face of it -but then the bolts/screws may get in the way.
Anyone have any photos or any tips?
Thanks

Mixing grease in boat bearings
Submitted by ctan1968 on Thu, 2015-04-23 17:27Hi all,
Currently servicing my trailer for a trip up north. Whilst changing bearings in the last wheel, I ran out of marine grease while doing the inner bearings and completed the outer bearing with another tub of just bearing grease (blue as well).
Since then I have been recommended that mixing of 2 greases is not advised.
If I have t pull the whole disc off, clean it then regrease the whole thing I will, but its going to be a pain as its got totally new bearings and seals throughout.
Thanks in advance.

Have I been supplied the wrong trailer?
Submitted by mrwinta on Wed, 2015-04-22 17:57if the trailer tare is 450kg and the AGM is 1999kg does that mean it can leagaly carry 1549kg?
my boat has a 'dry weight' of 1850kg- does that incluse the motor? the motor weighs 215kg and the fuel tank is 180L (180kg) maybe another 100kg for esky ice beer lead etc
450+1850+215+180+100= 2695kg
Am I doing this wrong??

Stolen Barcrusher
Submitted by Rob H on Wed, 2015-04-22 16:15on Facebook, looks to have been stolen in Vic.
Logical move would be to move it away to WA or north to NT so I thought Id chuck it up here.
These sort of pricks need to be caught and impaled vertically on a gaff handle at the local boat ramp

Hi guys,
I am after some advice on a trailer for my 3.5m seajay dinghy. Won't be traveling far, mostly to the boat ramp and back and the odd trip. Thinking just the centre pole type would do and would be cheaper.
just wondering which brands people would recommend -

Outboard mounting set up!!
Submitted by abbo_05 on Sun, 2015-04-12 20:25Hey lads
I was out in my quintrex dory 4.2, when I noticed a fair bit of spray from water coming from the outboard, seems like it may need to be positioned differently, not sure what kinda knots I should be getting out of the 25hp honda four stroke, so not sure if it's working to hard due to incorrect set up,
here is is a pic of the spray, if u can see it?
cheers in advance
