New to me Boat
Submitted by z00m on Mon, 2015-02-23 09:07You might have seen my earlier post regarding buying a new boat and the sort of options I was looking at. I managed to pick up this 2009 Seafox 216DC. Took it for a sea trial and spoke to their mechanic that gave it a good wrap. A few little jobs needed doing like replacing the cracked water filter screen on the outboard, bleeding and flushing the hydraulic steering to smooth it out, spraying loads of WD40 to get hinges and hatches working again and giving it a good wash. It will probably need a couple more washes to get it looking bright again. Hull needs a good polish as well.
It is an interesting hull in that it is a dual console (read bow rider in aussie lingo) so good for family days, but has in integrated kill tank, live bait well, 8 rod holders and an esky under the passenger seats for the fishing days. It's 6.4m long, 2.59m wide and sits on an ally ibeam trailer with the 150 4stroke Suzuki on the back with around 200 hours on it (tacho goes up to the 2 when you switch it on indicating 200 hours).
Worst part was, the kids have been sick all weekend and I couldn't take it out! arghhhh. At least now I have the option of fishing in the river or offshore and can trailer to more locations.
Upgrades will include a bow rail and a hard top but that will come with time.

prop pitch
Submitted by Carry on Sun, 2015-02-22 19:25Gday all i have a bit of a conundrum with my boat it is a 6.8m bayshore aluminium hull with a 225hp yammie 4stroke which is currently running a 19 pitch prop i currently get 40knots out of it which i am happy with but i am only getting 4900rpm maximum should i stay with this configuration or drop to a 17 pitch prop and get more revs out of it and maybe a little bit more top end speed . also would changing the prop and ramping up the revs make that big of a difference to my fuel economy .
Cheers Carry

Steering leak
Submitted by Piggy on Sun, 2015-02-15 21:32Hi fellas,
Just wondering if anyone could tell me where the leak would be coming from in the below pictures..... It seems to be coming from where the steer wheel pump mounts to the console.... has anyone had any experience re-sealing these? do you have to time them or anything when you pull them apart?
Any info would be great!!

60hp yamaha 4 stroke
Submitted by Quent85 on Sun, 2015-02-15 18:43Hey everyone,
after some advice, I recently changed the prop on my o/b and it went from 24 knots at 5700rpm to 24 knots at 4900rpm, it's the same prop and was the one recommended, but it didn't have any more in it though, it was choppy and windy today when testing it, the only thing I have done is fixed the speedo pipe and connected that and cleaned the hole for the speedo out would this change the rpm reading at all?
Any advice appreciated

Speaker installation
Submitted by fuzzy79 on Tue, 2015-02-10 19:45is it possible to install flush mount speakers in an aluminium boat? (Like 6" marine speakers). Is there an issue with the speakers accelerating corrosion of the hull? Or issues with the aluminium vibrating with the speakers? Or can I just cut a hole where I want the speakers and screw them in?
Any suggestions for the cheapest place to buy marine stereo equipment would be welcome. I am looking at elite-electronics.com.au - does anybody have any experience with them?

Inboard to Outboard Conversion
Submitted by JasFishing on Tue, 2015-02-10 09:42Well its finally started, after over a year of problems with the old Volvo engine and leg causing much pain...not to mention the minister of finance complaining about the ongoing repair bill (and donations to sea rescue) The conversion has started. Will keep putting pictures up as the build moves along. I'm happy with the progress made so far....let me know what you guys think.

New CC 30-40k
Submitted by Rogerthat on Mon, 2015-02-09 18:48Hi guys, after selling my haines I'm in the market for a CC between 18-21ft (still do a bit of solo fishing) with a glass preference and second hand for this price. I enjoy my sports fishing so GT and top water as well as jogging / trolling. Don't hold it against me but I'm on the east coast near brisbane so a boat that can handle itself offshore as well as being suitable for bay work.
Keen to hear your thoughts / recommendations. Cheers

What make is this hull ??
Submitted by therock on Tue, 2015-02-03 22:29Have searched everywhere but cannot find a match for my hull.
Can anyone tell me what/who/when this was made.
Has some serious custom bowsprit and bow rail work done.
The profile of hull is pretty unique, need to register it so would be nice to know.

ali hull damage, how much is normal?
Submitted by bergerac on Tue, 2015-02-03 19:29Hi guys,
Had a look at an ali boat today it looked like a fairly solidly built boat but the bottom of the hull looked like it had quite a few large dents in it and looked like it was almost wavy? Not sure if this is normal for ali (have only had a glass boat) but I thought it should be fairly straight. The trailer also looked like it wasnt properly setup so all the weight was sitting on the keel, not sure if I should ask the guy if I can have a look under the floor for any broken welds etc or if i should just walk away. I was looking for ali so it could handle a bit of rough handling but is there a point where hull damage will effect performance? The rest of the boat is in fairly good condition for a 10 year old boat and it has what looks like a decent 4 stroke on the back.

Submitted by willkerr on Mon, 2015-02-02 11:11Anyone know of a reasonably price spray shop that does a good job in Perth area? Also what about the option of Vinyl wrap?
Any ideas or contacts appreciated.

First 4-stroke, what to look out for?
Submitted by bergerac on Mon, 2015-02-02 03:28Hi guys
Im going to look at a 15 foot ali centre console in the next few days with a 40hp Yammi 4 stroke (165hours). Ive never owned a 4 stroke before, is there anything in particular to look out for? or is it basically a case of check the oil, check the condition and service records? Im going to arrange a test run if the boat looks good but do you think a 40 will do the job on a boat that size?

Rottnest swim, support boat needed
Submitted by Rob H on Sun, 2015-02-01 19:30a friend of mine here in Geraldton has a team of 4 together entered in the Rottnest swim 21/Feb.
The support boat they had organised looks increasingly likely to fall thru, I am the backup but also now very touch and go on whether I will be available due to the present work situation for me up north.
So Im putting it out there on their behalf that hopefully there may be someone with a suitable sized vessel prepared to take it on?
I can put the team leader in touch with someone if there is a taker, and any arrangements of course will be between those involved
The boat needs be to 6 meters+
thanks guys!

Trailer for V19
Submitted by petew on Sat, 2015-01-31 10:40Hi All,
Im considering a new trailer for my boat, an older V19. Its the same hull as a Penguin huntress pretty much.
Im looking at Ezy Tow, Mackay, Roadmaster here in WA. I seem to be on the limit of single or tandem axle too..
I was keen on keel rollers and don't care weather I have sliders or roller for the sides.
For these boats, I see a lot of older single keel roller type frames for trailers, instead of the more modern A-frame configurations. Is this because they are cheaper, lighter, better? Im not sure...
I like the simplicity of them but all the newer manufacturers seem to be heading me towards all rollers and an A frame setup, all are more expensive than I was expecting too...Im a bit out of touch :-)
Is there any other manufacturers I should be looking at? I don't mind paying a bit more for a better trailer but they are a pretty simple thing to build, what justifies a more expensive trailer? Can anyone suggest a trailer setup that works well for them and that may suit an older glass boat?

New Boat 60-70k
Submitted by fearns on Tue, 2015-01-27 11:50Gday,
I am moving to the southwest and am looking at the idea of purchasing a new boat around the 60-70k range. I am thinking an 1850 Stabicraft. I know these are safe and will help get me home in rough conditions. Possibly an E-tec 140 or 150.
Can anyone recommend a different boat for the price range or see why I shouldn't purchase the Stabicraft? any information would be appreciated.

Commodore Abrohlos 8000
Submitted by Doooma on Sun, 2015-01-25 17:25I've made an offer on a Commodore Abrohlos 8000..
after all the boats I've owned in the past, I'm hoping this will be the last for at least 10 years!!!!
has anyone spent any time on them? It's the one located at Challenge Marine.
seems to have everything I require for my usual overnighter trips out to the islands off Carnarvon!!
did this belong to anyone on here?

Boat Polishing
Submitted by bsir on Wed, 2015-01-21 13:00I've recently purchased a new (second hand) fibreglass boat and am selling an aluminium boat (670 Coraline walkaround if anyone is interested).
Both could do with a bit of a polish.
Whats the best way of doing polishing them?
What polish to use?
I don't want to do it by hand as this would take too long to do 2 boats, so what sort of polishing tools to use?
Thanks

Bugger Me A Crook Johno
Submitted by Ol Tom on Mon, 2015-01-19 18:53Gedday all
Went out for a run today and after 45 mins flat out we stopped the boat and got off on the beach. After about 40 mins as we went to start again the boat would not crank.
I have some electrical knowledge and have confirmed that there is definately power getting to the first plug on the motor. This proves that the neutral switch and key switch are working. But from there the wiring goes crazy. Has anyone had the same or may know what may be wrong??
The motor is a 2007 50HP Johnson 4 stroke
Thanks
