The pamplet that came with the rego explains where our money goes.

Boat  rego fees support  the  delivery of boating  related safety programs and infrastructure  projects.

* boating  safety education  campaigns

* navigation aids

* signage

* compliance

* investigations

* grant programs for boat ramps and other  public boating  facilities.

More like topping  up the govs pockets.

Ocean Whaler Protest

Hi guys,I will be staging a protest at Ocean Whaler at a date to be set,if you have any concerns then please come along. All Media will be invited.

Ocean whaler 565

 Hi All

i am going to be buying my first boat in the next month or two and the Ocean Whaler 565 has caught my eye and seems to get a decent write up.

I have a budget of $35000 top end and have seen one advertised in Bunbury for $31K 2006 hull with a 90hp evinrude.

Just wondering if some of the owners in here can help me out with good and bad points and things to look out for. I have read all the posts I can find on them both here and in other sites. I understand Marineboy is having issues with water in the hull, is anyone else having the same issue and should this be putting me off these hulls?

I think realistically as it is my first boat I will have it checked out professionally but would like to have a look at it first before I pay for someone to check it out more thoroughly.

Also I am in Waikiki if any of you would be willing to take me out and show me what she is capable of there would be a case of beer in it and obviously all fuel paid for, I don't mind travelling.

Any other boats you think I should be considering?

Cheers

Steve

Progress report for new BAR CRUSHER.730HT----LIGHTS-CAMERA-ACTION!!

Gday all..

Here i am stuck out at work, bouncing off the walls like a kid on Christmas eve waiting to finish this tour and head home to take delivery of the new toy.

The lads at ALL BOATS in Perth have been great so far, im just hoping that continues past driving out the gate. She went into the paint shop just before the factory shut down for Chrissy break, but the cabin is painted a dark charcoal, with inside the cabin all blacked out. The plan from the start was to polish and seal the hull for something different. But since i had some problems with hand carrying "SHARKHIDE' polish back from the states, i need to try and find a equal product locally. OR, look into a nice wrap.

How many of you have got an Ally boat wrapped?? Ive heard stories about the UV damaging the vinyl and causing the pictures to fade?

Due to having a bit of another delay in delivery time, the lads at the dealership were nice enough to mount and wire up all my lights. When ppl ask if im scared of the dark, i ask them what IS dark???

Bearing buddies

 Hey guys.

Lost the cap off my bearing buddy unknowingly. There's some slight corrosion on the outside around the spring of the bb. Do you think the bearing would be compromised?

Maxwell Anchormax Capstan

Has anybody got or used a Maxwell Anchormax capstan? I can't find any honest reviews anywhere apart from the suppliers.

I am looking to use it to haul the anchor. I know that hauling chain is not recommended but I think I have a solution for that.

Anyway I don't have room in the anchor well for a drum nor the depth for a vertical or horizontal windlass.

I currently use a anchor retriever (the one with the float) but it is hard to use when anchoring between and near reef.

Any other suggestions (apart from toughen up etc.) Makes/Models would be greatly appreciated.

Leeder 710 Thoughts & Opinions

Hey crew, considering an upgrade to a Leeder 710 or similar, any thoughts or opinions? Just an idea at this stage. Use would be as an all rounder, fishing, cruising & occasional overnights at the islands, perhaps an abrolhos trip one day!!

Have heard that old sterndrives can be a money pit, any tips on what to look for? Hoping to get one with an injected engine if possible, not a fan of carbies & petrol around hot things (except in muscle cars!)

Cheers guys,

Browndog.

Desperately need a new canopy

 Hi Everyone,

As you can see from the pics I am in need of some new shade and clears, due to the fact when I was pulling the boat out the tree decided to jump through it, ripping the shit out of it hence it having to be tied on now.

Just wanting some names of companys that are localish to Karrinyup and do a fair but reasonablely priced job (haha I hear you all laugh as were are talking about a boat here)

any feedback would be greatfully apprecated.

James

Baron Sportsman Under Floor

 Hi all.

I have a 5.5 Baron Sportsman. It currently has a Volvo 4 cylinder and out drive. I'm looking to repower with a V6 Merc and Alpha 1. Aside all the transom fun I know I'm going to have, I need to know how the stringer and/or rib spacing is layed out under the floor as I'm going to have to support the Merc with front engine mounts.

The Volvo is transom mounted only with no front supports but I'm not going to be able to swing the Merc in this fashion. I really don't want to have to tear up all the floor if I can avoid it. If I could just find a picture of what it will look like under there it may be enough to give me the clues where to start cutting. Or if I'm really lucky, someone out there in boating land may have the layout and measurments already documented some where.

I have seen these Barons with V6's and V8's fitted but I don't know how they did it. I think a V8 would start to boarder on the line of getting to heavy but I hoping the V6 will be ok. The old Volvo's are quite heavy as it is and the V6 Merc shouldn't increase the weight by enough to be throwing the balance out of wack. Weight low and forward has to provide a better balance and stability than those that have put pods and O/B's on them where the weight now transfers high and aft.

These are good old boats and mine has proven tuff as nails in the 4 years I've had it but it's repower time and it's going to be a nightmare without some freindly clues on these baby's from those that know them better than I do. It's what's under that floor that I need to know!

Cheers

Brett

poppet valve maintenance - recommended !

Guys

Quick tip, it might be worthwhile taking your poppet valve out every couple of hundred hours, quick, cheap and easy job that might save you a lot of time and money down the track.

I did mine after 350 hrs, and the bolts were hard to get out, frozen in with a bit of ali corrosion, combined with threadlocker used on these bolts, meant a very careful inching of the bolts out so they did not snap.

Replaced the diaphragm and gasket and cleaned the seat as it looked like the poppet was sticking, everything else OK.

Worth pulling out semi regularly if only to pull the bolts out, wire btush clean and re-install or else you risk them snapping off.

Not much else to do with so many wind days.

old douglas craft 2nd hand, transom issue

hello every one

Me and my mate have recently bought an old 4.5 metre Douglas craft from a dealer in balcatta and its been great so far! although we had checked thoroughly at the yard when we bought it, I have just found out today that the transom is in a terrible state. after peeling back some of the flaky glass inside the boat were the transom is I saw that water had definitely got into the wood...wasn't a big deal as the wood was solid in these parts, but closer to the center of the transom it gets much worst, I am able to slide a Stanley knife all the way to glass on the other side! anyway my question is, were do I stand here? should I take the boat back and make the salesman responsible or is it tuff luck and fix it myself? any guidance would be much appreciated

Acrylic cabin wall

Hi guys during some rough seas I had one of the false walls in my cabin crack looks like acrylic it's made out of. It hides all the dash wiring etc could someone point me in the right direction on who could make a new one for me around the northern suburbs cheers

Barcrusher 680HT

Well after much deliberation I found a used 680HT which was up for sale at the Barcrusher factory in Vic which they were selling for a client. I flew over on Tuesday to view it on Wednesday and purchased the boat. Saved myself over $20K instead of purchasing a new 670HT and don't need to wait for 3-4 months for it to be built. Impatiently waiting for its arrival at the end of January. Just need to find a car to tow it now. Haha

They have one on the market at the moment which looks like a nice setup. 6mm plate bottom, 4mm sides, hard reverse chines and fine entry. Looks like i t would travel well but cant find any info on them. Spoke to the builder today but a of course he is going to say they are a great boat.

Anyone know this brand and if they are any good or bad.

Time to spoil myself! Barcrusher!

Hi to all fishwrecked members!

A little intro about me and also a rant (some call it venting). A super keen fisho from the east coast who moved to WA in 2004. Previously owned a boat over east and when I moved here I built a new house with side access which I specifically designed to be able to park a large boat. Long story short but ended up with a huge debt (1.2M) due to building a second house with the purpose of selling the 1st one and moving into the new house. Thanks to the GFC I wasn't able to sell either house which meant no life and having to work 70-80 hours per week to make ends meet. This meant no boat, no fishing and no nothing excpet work, work and work. Finally in 2012 I sold the 2nd house for a gut wrenching loss of 250K but at least I get my life back. Just as my life was on the way up again my wife decided to have an affair in early 2013 and we separated. Thankfully no kids are involved which just would've complicated things even more. Now officially divorced, another 100K worse off (having to pay out the cheater thanks to our pathetic legal system), limited friends and I'm starting all over again. Its been a tough ride of 3 meter swells and 30 knot winds for the last 2 years but its time do the things I always wanted to do. Its time to buy that boat that I always wanted.

Today the wind and sea was as bad as it gets. I've always wanted to buy a Barcrusher and have only heard great things about these boats and they definitely are a great looking boat. I've never been in one before and I've heard people call them Ball Crushers so I had some reservations about them until I personally experienced one myself. Today I had the chance to go out for a test drive in a Barcrucher 730HT and geez was I impressed!!! I'm hooked to say the least.

Its now decision time! Which model and size do I purchase? If only I could afford the 730HT!!  Here are the models that I'm looking at in order of preference and was wondering if others had any pros and cons for these particular models as I'm doing my head in. I don't want others to start a debate over other boat brands and whether other boats are better etc etc. I'm buying a Barcrusher as I've narrowed my list of boat brands down to the Barcrusher.

670HT-My preferred choice but a very costly boat and am a little relunctant to spend that much. Need to park it out the front of the house which concerns me over the security of leaving it out the front.

670C-Cheaper and can possibly just get it in the garage with a few adjustments although not ideal due to length. Not sure that it will keep me totally dry on a bad day. Potentially it will have to be parked out the front of the house also.

615HT-Marginally cheaper than the 670C but will keep me dry. Ride quality marginally less due to physical hull size and weight being less than the 670. Will need to park it out the front of the house.

615C-Cheapest by far (around 20K less than 670HT). Ride quality not as good as the bigger versions. Should fit it in the garage but also not ideal due to length.

This is a big investment of my money (or should I say banks money) so would like any advice to help me with my decision. Thanks in advance to everyone!

Cheers, Kuzi.

electric trailer brakes - Sensa brake

Found a boat i am interested in although only problem i have is it has the Sensa brake setup on the trailer and i have the car set up for the Carlile Hydrastar.

Are these systems any good, trailer is 06 model.

Option i am looking at are fit the new braking unit to the car to operate the Sensabrake or refit the trailer with an all new Hydrastar system. Cost is about $1000 extra to fit new system to trailer.

Anyone use Sensa brakes and are they any good.

Cheers

Good project for someone

I saw this boat on Gumtree this morning and searched gumtree for a replacement motor for it. If you were handy you could have a big boat for less money!

Might have to post an ad to sell my cruiser and move into a more specific fishing machine like this.

Advice on seeker boat

 Hi all,

Just after some quick advice on a new seeker (seeker) boat. I'm looking at . 20ft centre console hull from the mid-late 70's with a 10yr old tohatsu 90 on the back (100hrs)

The transom and boat floor have been redone recently and the condition of the boat is pretty mint (I thought it was much newer until I was told). It comes with all electronic's and I'm planning on doing a couple of minor upgrades to suit myself. Otherwise it has all the safety gear and the trailer is just as good as the boat.

I'm sold on the boat and will get a surveyor to assess the hull before I buy however my only problem is what a suitable purchase price should be. I can't really find too many other seekers for sale and those which are have a condition and asking price lower than the one I am looking at. I can buy for $19k which is a little more than I think the boat is worth however I'm reasonably happy to spend that coin if I get a good boat out of it....IF

Can anyone offer any advice on the quality of seeker boats and anything I should be looking out for?? As mentioned the hull will be surveyed before purchasing

Thanks

Hydraulic trailer brakes-stainless bleed screws

I can't seem to find anyone who sells stainless steel bleed screws for PBR brake calipers. I'm SoR but will gladly travel north to purchase.

Any suggestions?

The new rig

Well a new second hand rig.

Don't post a hell of a lot but Hopefully that will change over the summer and I can get on the water more and out further than I ever could. My previous boat was a 5.7m rib with a 115 optimax on the back (hardly a fishing boat), great for cruising around the river and over to rotto with a heap of people but the thing had 0 deck space which is somthing I desperately wanted and for obvious reasons when it came to fishing/crabbing. Had been scanning gumtree and other boat sites for the last 3 months looking for the right boat, at first I was fixed on a big american centre console, then started looking at the trophies and again changed my mind to something that would be lighter to tow, would have more deckspace and could take a beating. The answer and the boat that fit my budget was the trailcraft 660 trailblazer (2006) paired with a 150 verado (200 hours). I knew how they were built and how they rode as my dad used to own a little 5.3m in which he never had problems, plus I got it at a good price!

Long story short, towed it down to mandurah on the weekend and got put for a scoop, managed 8 crabs the first morning and 15 the next, would have got more but everyone else was to scared To get their feet wet. Also managed to take it up to the ravenswood pub which was a good day out.

Theres a couple things I gota do including replacing the front 2 pieces of perspex which is stuffed and you can barely see through them (anyone knows a good place let me know) but other than that shes all good. Added some gunwale padding on the tops which looks aswesome now aswell. Previous owner glued some ugly yellow board down on the side.

Hopefully the next thread I type will have a picture of me holding something worth talking about :)

Marine batteries

Hi, can someone tell me the difference between marine batteries and car/light truck batteries, from what I have found on the net there isn't any difference other than price and a " marine battery " sticker on the side.

Trailer dramas

Hi All,

Got home yesterday morning and while washing down the boat, sprayed the back trailer wheel and fair bit of steam came off. I'm hesitant to drive it as the last thing I want to do is take out some innocent dude/chick with a wheel. Any ideas of any good mobile mechanics around the Singleton/Rockingham/Mandurah area?

Thanks, Shacked

Honda outboard 115-130hp upgrade??

 Hi All,

I currently have a 2006 honda 115hp on the back of my 5.8 chivers meridian. I have been doing a bit of research and have come across that the 115 & 130 is exactly the same motor and that the 115hp is just a detuned version..

Does anyone know what is involved to have the motor tuned to the 130hp? Would you need to replace the ECM or do you think it could be unlocked and mapped to the 130 and info would be appreciated and if anyone has done it give me a shout as to who and where did the work and is it worth it?

Cheers!!!
