fuel prices
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2022-11-02 08:40Don't know what it's like down metro but the prices up here in hedland are a bit of a joke.
ULP $233.9
Diesel $256.9
How can the prices jump so much
When we got the ranger diesel was under $2 per litre. Someone is killing the pig

Stretched the arms
Submitted by carnarvonite on Sun, 2022-10-23 20:35Took a run down with son Jeff, Deepwater on here] to the bit of beach that looked a bit fishy this afternoon.
Thinking back one realised it was before I headed up to Carnarvon some 20 odd years back that I had put the shoulder into a beach rod, and they still cast well. First cast and as soon as the bait hit the water, bang, no mucking about as the soapies took a liking to the mulies.
Chucked about 12-14 soapies back, kept one silver bream [the first I have caught in over 30 years] plus the few tailor and the mully that I estimate about 7kg.
First bait hit the water at 4.30 and we were leaving the beach smack dab on 6.30, so not a bad 2 hour fishing exercise that I will probably pay for tomorrow being as stiff as buggery but it was worth it
The mully Jeff is holding up is the one he got from the same spot on Friday, same time frame and nearly same number of soapies but no other species

weird lure found on the beach
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2022-10-19 18:50Found this lure washed up on the beach. Never seen one this shape before. All split rings had rusted away so guessing it's been floating around for a while.
Any ideas as to what brand and style

Down and Dirty
Submitted by Wes F on Wed, 2022-09-28 12:45After spending two years building a Creek Bed car my son and I headed down to Kukerin for the annual Creek Bed and Burnout Competiton.
The car is a HZ on a F100 chassis, 350 Chev, TH 400 transmission with a Spicer limited slip diff.
All engineered by myself with my son being tech support as a qualified mechanic.
Got a few laps in before the front uni joint gave way pushing for a faster time.
Check out the face book page.

arm stretch at the bank
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2022-09-27 12:01
A quick session at the bank resulted in a couple of hard fights , 1 after the other and to say my arms were aching afterwards is an understatement. 5 foot hammer and a 6 foot shovel

Silver Perch in metro waters / aquaponics
Submitted by NORUN NOFUN on Tue, 2022-09-27 10:45Took the dog for a walk over the weekend and walked around a lake near my house, stopped and had a bit of a gander and was blown away at the size of some the carp, following that first carp I saw about a dozen silver perch at about 40 odd centimetres, probably 30 odd centimetres as fish look bigger in the water and was just blown away as I have not seen silver perch that big in a long time.
The last time was in a big private damn North of Toodyay a few years ago, they were monsters and very fat along with a few big yellowbelly.
Im setting up an aquaponics system and was in the process at getting some silver perch, haha, what a coincidence and may just have to sneakily avoid rangers and grab a couple as there would certainly be quite a few - havent made my mind up on that yet though as I have no idea what sort of quality they would be.
Anyone else running aquaponics and silver perch ?

Outside refurbish - 4th year of the 3 year project
Submitted by Swompa on Tue, 2022-09-27 07:29Howdy Team,
Well some of you would remember my grand plan a few years ago for a full refresh of my boat....which for the past 10 years has been a 6m Pacemaker centre console but upon measuring three weeks ago is actually only 5.6m.......Dont you hate it when you're not quite as big as you thought.
Year 1 involved removing the deck, rotton timber and foam and full rebuild up to the deck. That went smoothly and took three months
Year 2 was meant to be the outside of the hull but the trailer needed more love so I stripped it down and replaced every nut and bolt and got every other bit stripped and regalvanised
Year 3 was a deck replacement again after the timber from year 1 turned out to not be marine ply...even though it was what I paid for. New foam and deck again.
Year 4 is where we are now. Full outside strip to flocoat, bog and re-spray
Boat has been up on blocks for a month now and we have been sanding and sanding and sanding. We have sprayed on a coat of high build primer and over the weekend I bogged up the billion placed that needed filler. Not due to abuse, just an order fiberglass boat that has been well used.
Topsides are now very smooth but the bottom needs a lot more love.
Hoping to have it ready to splash before the end of October
Bring on Aluminium!

Pots back in
Submitted by carnarvonite on Thu, 2022-09-22 19:03Dropped the pots back in this morning to see if we can put some whiskers in the freezer.
Saw a few new pots in the water and the odd ones left over from last season all covered in snot, if they are no good at least make an effort to take them out instead of leaving them there to rot away and the ropes etc becoming a navigation hazard

Petition cracks 15000
Submitted by Rob H on Sun, 2022-09-18 19:25 A marathon effort by RFW and the Tackle/Boating Industry at the Boat Show has pushed the numbers past 15000 now.
I probably need to point out, the EVEN if it doesnt force a rethink by DPIRD and Punch, it will be fodder when this government starts to feel threatened by the Opposition.
Seems a long time away but it will only be one or 2 elections away.

Nearly finished our travels
Submitted by sunshine on Tue, 2022-09-13 04:09 Only a few days left and we have completed our north to south John O Groats to Lands End UK road trip without getting on a single motorway. Last few photos are of another ridiculously steep ramp to the old Lizard Life Boat Station :(1914). And got to eat a local fresh caught lobster.....much firmer and meatier than our crays. Back to Oz next week

10,000 is a good milestone but we can do more.
Submitted by Rob H on Thu, 2022-09-08 07:08This will get recognised, but opponents can easily point out "750,000 rec fishers and only 10,000 signed"?
Interesting stats-The only E-petition ever with more signatures (active still or closed) is the Greyhound racing one with 12000, this has been up for about 10 times as long
- get your families to sign, they are also affected even if just by eating your fish, or your mental health. Just that alone across the board could potentially double numbers.
- Networks and friends outside the West Coast region, share it. They are also affected, by the spill over fishing pressure and bag limit reductions proposed for South Coast and up north.
Make it easy for them, send the link, tell them how important and that they will need to enter their address etc
I have approached Broome Fishing Club and posted up on Broome Noticeboard, which has got a little bit of interest, but if you have personal contacts up there, let them know about the issue and ask them to sign.
If apathy if rife inside the West Coast Region its not hard to picture responses South and North of the region, remind them of the cuts they are proposed to get
Sadly McGowans message "in a couple of years there'll be no fish left" is the only one many people heard which makes it sound as though we want to rape it bare.
Repeatedly I'm having to paste up the same info from DPIRD about stocks, and I've put it here below in case anyone needs to save the images and links for use.

4wd spotties. Electrical advice needed
Submitted by Jim on Fri, 2022-09-02 04:56Hi, any gurus out there that can help me with advice?
I have old school halogen spotties and I want to replace with led. Can I just cut the old wires on the halogens where they are mounted and simply rewire the new led wires in? So I don't have to muck around running new wires/fuses/switch. I assume leds wouldn't need a bigger fuse?
Cheers

Anyone need some 2 part expanding foam?
Submitted by Swompa on Sat, 2022-08-27 12:382 part PU foam from Composites Warehouse. I went through lots but only used about half of this final batch when I was re-doing my deck last year and have no intention of doing it again (going Ally next time)
The lid on one of them got stuck on so I had to be forceful removing it hence the tape and plastic.
Free to good home if anyone is in need or if you wish to buy me a beer in exchange I wouldn't turn it down.
I am in Thornlie

Demersal proposal by Fisheries-do not engage in survey
Submitted by Rob H on Thu, 2022-08-18 20:36 I have put this up as a seperate thread topic deliberately, to avoid my comment being lost in the hundreds of others.
I'm simply gobsmacked at how many people have taken this as;
"we only have 2 options, A-94 days or B-123 days".
Just like the Cray Grab for commercial quota 2 years ago, this is not the case.
This is the point where we will see whether apathy reigns, or people are prepared to actually step up.
People like myself, Hezzy, Brody Laroux and others have already given a considerable amount of our personal time to put a proposal together via RFW which has been completely ignored despite being invited by DPIRD.
Get ready to decide where you sit on t5his.
Mark MacGowan does not like being unpopular.
Don Punch can be just moved on elsewhere like what happened to Dave Kelly when this Gov tried to take the latent commercial effort for themselves.
But Mark MacGowan does not like adverse opinion, and he should be the target of a campaign about this.
Who is prepared to actually put up?
Don Punch Bunbury@mp.wa.gov.au
Mark McGowan wa-government@dpc.wa.gov.au

Submitted by sunshine on Wed, 2022-08-17 00:14Unbelievably historical township, tiny single lane cobbled roads. Boat ramp is evil and the RNLI have a curved ramp and a FULLY submersible push tractor.
