Perth Road Rage
Submitted by sarcasm0 on Thu, 2014-02-27 19:03OK, Im quite reluctant to post this as im sure im going to get bagged for stating the obvious and for stirring the pot. I never thought Perth has the worst drivers after driving all over Aus, Travelling through Indonesia, Road tripping in Canada I have seen bad driving everywhere. Lately things have been totally over the top.
My work commute of 40mins each way each day is my most hated part of every day. I get mad all the time with poor drivers but have never wanted to jump out and kill someone over something on the road. A few weeks back on a monday at 7:20am William St, crossing Albany Hwy at the lights onto the Kenwick link in the left lane, a 4wd in the far right hand lane is stopped and a motorbike comes up between the traffic and pulls up in front of 4wd. I notice guy in 4wd getting out, hes an old fella and he has this sort of stick about 45cm long with a handle. His missus is now agitated in car and is frantically trying to open the door, old fella limps up to this bloke on motorbike and before I knew it he has stabbed this stick thing into the motorcyclists back yelling about 'people like him causing accidents'. Motorcyclist is recovering from unexpected blow to the kidney/spine and trying to get off bike, im bailing from my 4wd, old fellas missus is trying to get between. Old fella open hand slaps this dude on the helmet, motorcyclists head is rocking around and hes trying not to fall off, im yelling at the old fella to calm down trying to move between the cars between me and the incident, others are getting out and yelling, old fellas misses is yelling and dragging him back by one arm. Motorcyclist is now off his bike and he looks around 6'3 and really pissed off, hes gone chest to chest with the old dude looking like its really going to tee off. By this stage im right there beside them trying to tell them to just calm down, telling the old bloke no matter what happened, he has no right to assault someone in the street, his missus is trying to drag him off and the motorcyclist who looks like hes dressed in just plain work clothes turns around and walks away, old fella kinda limps back to his car and his missus has to help him in. Lights are changing, I jump back in and take off hoping old fella does not just run the motorcyclist over as the lights go green.
Everyday I see heaps of dodgy driving and once again today I was coming home on William Street crossing the train lines where it merges from two lanes to one. Im in the right hand lane stopped several cars back from the crossing, boom gates go up and both lanes take off. Im following the car in front, the vehicle in the left hand lane turns off left and im looking in the mirror, its clear, white lines are stopping so im merging. All of the sudden a white commodore station wagon is at my left rear going fast, Im already indicating and there was no more road with a roadside parking bay rapidly approaching for him or into the median strip if he doesnt concede. He is nearly up to my left passenger window and im wondering if I should just stop and let him run up onto the kerb and back onto the road... In the end he drops off while screaming abuse across through my passenger window with kids watching him from the back seat and female passenger. He is now riding right up my arse with clearly no hands on the wheel as they are on his face being used to make glasses while waving his head around screaming. There is a roundabout ahead and there are 3-4 cars ahead slowing as they get to the intersection. He is still screaming now with his head out the window yelling 'I know where you f!@#@#@! live c@#$ im gonna come round and get you' while giving me the finger. Thankfully the traffic cleared the roundabout without having to come to a stop and he tailgated me then turned left onto the roundabout. Leaving me to consider how I was possibly in the wrong for being the front vehicle, by nearly a length and a half when the white lines were ending in a merging situation.
I am not a slow driver, I drive quickly and efficiently within the limits but I dont tailgate and I dont threaten people.

Mail Order Boat stuff
Submitted by cutter on Thu, 2014-02-27 12:09Don't like putting down companies but when you order a few thousand dollars worth of gear i.e electronics, sounders, stereos make sure the person on the other end of the phone knows what they are talking about.
Now after pulling our hair out thinking it was us,(install) it was the incompetent people selling the gear to us Not knowing what they are talking about and didn't supply us with a cable that you need for everything to run.
Finally getting the info from there technical suppliers which couldn't believe we weren't told we needed this cable they said they were sending it out on Monday, just ringing them today to find out were the cable is, i have been told they were busy and sending it this arvo WTF.
Sorry Bias Boating you have lost my service.

Anyone driving and or towing with a DMAX?
Submitted by Rig on Wed, 2014-02-26 17:17Hey Guys I have been procrastinating about upgrading vehicles for a while and it has come down to either a Colorado or DMAX but since hearing alot of bad press about colardos with regard to paint quality, chasis/suspension, steering and ride, that was all a bit disturbing but none the less I am glad I googled it. I have decided the DMAX might be the way forward as there seems to be less bad stuff said. With my budget I am thinking of going a mid to base model duel cab and fitting a hard canopy
Just interested in anyones thoughts on how the DMAX goes towing boats on the highway and into a seabreeze, even some fuel economy stats would be great
Also anyone who has fitted a canopy to one of these or similar and has a recommendation

Surfing 4m croc closes Cable Beach
Submitted by bod on Tue, 2014-02-25 22:00

Broome’s surfing croc takes to the gentle waves at Cable Beach, but he had it all to himself. Picture: Sharon Scoble Source: Supplied
A GIANT four-metre surfing croc has closed Broome’s iconic Cable Beach for a day before moving on.
While Perth beachgoers were enthralled with a 2000kg sub-adult southern elephant seal which had “hauled out’’ on a city beach, Broome locals and visitors were captivated by the 4m croc which took to Cable Beach’s gentle swell.
The croc hung around for most of Saturday but had moved on by Sunday.
Broome woman Sharon Scoble, who took these amazing photographs, said: “He was a big boy — his head was huge.’’

“It was absolutely awesome,” Ms Scoble, a finance officer for the Kimberley Land Council, said.
“But it wouldn’t have been so awesome if I was swimming and noticed it.”
“But obviously I wasn’t in a position where it was going to harm me.
“Rangers were there so they were making sure no one was going near it.”
Ms Scoble, 51, is an avid photographer and was called to the beach by her son Matt who had spotted the croc when driving to the beach.
She said it stayed in the shallows attracting attention from curious onlookers for most of the day but had since moved on.

“It would have just gone back up one of the creeks I think.”
Local Parks and Wildlife officer Dave Woods said it is believed to be the same crocodile which had been spotted close to Broome in December. He said it was believed to be 3.5m to 4m long.
Mr Woods said the animal would be targeted for removal to the Malcolm Douglas Wilderness Park, near Broome.

Tow vehicle for 1500-1800 kg trailcraft
Submitted by Josh on Tue, 2014-02-25 21:18G'day guys
Thinking of doing a bit of an upgrade, Currently towing the 5.8m tTrailblazer with a vz wagon, and work has turned into a city commute. Round town I'm looking at 12l/100 and towing is around 18/19l / 100kms.
Plan is to save on fuel by buying a bike for commute then get a tow vehicle for the boat and when it's raining.
Budget is between 10-15k for the vehicle, doesn't need to be a 4wd.
I have been thinking of vehicle auctions? Anybody bought a auction car? Can you test drive them? Seen a couple of Western power plated utes ford/Holden with 95k, are tthere deals to be got?

NOR Tiler?
Submitted by big john on Tue, 2014-02-25 20:06Just wondering if there any NOR Tilers on Fishwrecked who would be up for a cashy job.
I'm about to replace a burnt out rangehood on an outdoor bbq but while I'm at it I'd like to add one more row of tiles to the splash back so the lid of the bbq when opened doesn't hit the rangehood.
I already have the tiles, I just need someone to install them.
PM if your interested.
Cheers John

Rotto swim
Submitted by Berin on Sat, 2014-02-22 18:08Just got back from the rotto swim, had a great day paddling a yak. I would recommend it to anyone into a challenge. Truly magic conditions and awesome comraderie from all. No way could I swim it but in a yak it was great fun. If anyone needs a paddler for next year, count me in.
A bit sad that I did not see the lone hammerhead and never before have I seen Rottnest so busy ! Damn it was a great day.

Am doing the rotto swim again tomorrow, just wondering if anyone has been out around rotto over the past few days and can tell me what the currents are doing out there, which direction they are going?

Shimano orca stickbaits
Submitted by scano on Wed, 2014-02-19 14:27Hi everyone,
just chasing some feedback on sinking stickbaits. I have been looking at buying some for an up and coming Exmouth trip to throw at tuna and general busting up bait schools.
I have a 5-10kg rated rod so don't want anything too massive. I was thinking in particular some of the 160mm shimano Orca stickbaits would be good. Has anyone used them much? With much success?
Lastly can can you recommend any other light weight mid sized stickbait options?
many thanks

Surf rod needs rebind of guides, I'm looking for a little help .... located in Rockingham.
Submitted by opsrey on Tue, 2014-02-18 06:57Just wondering if any Rockingham members roll their own rods.
I have an old MT6144 low mount that I made 20yrs ago and it's binding epoxy is delamianating. I'm not sure if the guide thread needs replacement, all are underbound as well. Rod has 6 runners including tip. I will replace the tip when rebinding.
Can anyone help with a rebind. The rod is of sentimental value.
Thanks in advance if some one can help.
