New Company Name
Submitted by james14 on Mon, 2012-10-15 20:47Howdy,
I've spent countless weeks trying to come up with a new company name but have had no luck, I'm chucking it out to the FW community to see if anything pops up that I will be able to use for years to come
Some details:
-I just finished my carpentry and joinery apprenticeship and am in the commercial field. (Shop fitting)
- I am striving towards building this company over the future,
- even though I'm a qualified carpenter I want to be able to offer/provide other trades under my business,
- I have come to the conclusion that I want the name to be "something" CONSTRUCTION, as 'construction' what I will be providing, not just carpentry.
So if anybody has any ideas please throw them out there.
Who knows in years to come I could have made the big league and you had apart of it :)
Cheers James

Lance Armstrong
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2012-10-15 17:58Will this bloke, his team and support crew go down as the most corrupt sporting team ever. I mean this has obviously gone on for years. How many other teams are invovled? The scary thing was that one of his team mates said he come to the realisation that if you didn't take perfomance enhancing drugs you couldn't compete at that level. What a sad day in the history of sport this will be.

10/10 Perth Diving Academy
Submitted by Paul G on Mon, 2012-10-15 17:54
I purchased two shark shields last October and one has in the last couple of weeks stopped working. I contacted the dive shop which I got them and spoke to them about the problem I was having with the unit .I received a very negative response and was told it could be weeks before they were sent to be looked at as it was expensive to post them ,so I would have to wait until they had a couple of units to send .OK so the next day I drive down to Balcatta to return the unit as this is the shop I had purchased the unit at, to find them closed .Well I was a little pissed to say the least. Any way headed down to Hillarys Perth Diving Academy to look for a new wet suit which I would have got at Balcatta if they were open. I was met by very friendly staff that were very professional and new there stuff, I got a new wet suit at a discount price and a new dive bag for Jesse. I asked the manager Troy Lane If he knew the number of the Shark Shield makers so I could return it myself. He asked what was wrong with the unit and after I had told him .He said give it to me I will sort it for you .I received a call two days later telling me they had sent the unit back east and looked like I would get a new one .I just got a call this arvo to say the new one was in and waiting to be picked up .I will now be spending my money with their shop ,it may be a little further to drive for me but I appreciate the friendly professional service Thank Perth Diving academy .Troy and staff.

Recommendations on Digital Cameras
Submitted by Just1morecast on Sun, 2012-10-14 18:29Thought id ask everyone since im not big on digital cameras and maybe something new is out that i dont know of to use on my travels. For snowboarding, fishing and anything crazy i decide to do i have my gopro but for the more scenic type photos etc would be good to have one. Also i do have a stop over in Shanghai for a day so if anyone that has been there before and knows if its cheaper/better to buy in China than please let me know. I previously had a lumix(size is perfect) and was always good to me so i may result to that.
So i guess im asking what you guys have and if its waterproof and tough, never know with the crazy party nights ahead.

Computer Advice
Submitted by Mat.T. on Sun, 2012-10-14 07:15G'Day All,
I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to computers. so I'm after a bit of help with purchasing a new one and any information would be greatly appreciated. I've currently got a Dell Inspiron 530 thingo and I'm too old and stuck in my ways to figure out Mac stuff.
My current computer is pretty much out of storage. There's only about 2GB left of its 350GB. It's mostly taken up with photos, videos and music. I don't play any computer games needing a super flash computer but I've been inspired by all the GoPro discussion and am keen to get one, so I'll need something that is capable of handling that. Mostly our family uses the computer for looking stuff up on the net, playing Pingu videos from youtube for our daughter and storing/looking at our photos, music, etc. Here are my questions:
1. Would 1TB of storage be enough or should I go for 2TB?
2. Can you get them with wireless built in to avoid all the cords, etc and is this a good option?
3. I don't really know much about processors (is an i5 good enough or do I need i7?) or memory (6GB or 8GB or something else?) so any advice/explanation here would be great.
4. Is there some other feature I should be making sure I include in the package?
5. Any recommendations on a place to get a good deal with some after-sales service (would be via phone, as I'm up in Derby)? I've always gone through Dell in the past and they've been okay but other suggestions would be welcomed.
I know that's a lot of questions but any advice relating to any of them would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mathew.

Outboard Motor Wreckers
Submitted by OLD BANGA on Sat, 2012-10-13 18:13I am chasing either a gearbox housing or a recond gearbox for my 90hp Mercury two stroke outboard approx 1990 model. Does anybody know if Ace Outboard Motor Wreckers are still operating, I have rung their telephone number several times and received no reply.
The top end of the motor is in very good condtion, just a crack in the gearbox housing causing me some grief. Failing that I will have to purchase a new Yamaha 70hp four stroke for around $12,500, so I would prefer to spend the $700 if possible.
Cheers

A quick look around the Mandurah Boat Show today
Submitted by r.gates on Fri, 2012-10-12 20:48Hi all
Went along to the Mandurah boat show this afternoon and wandered around for about 3 hours. Lots on display and lots of gear for sale at marked down prices....no doubt by Sunday arvo they'll be giving the stuff away.
Caught up with Michael from Chivers Marine for a chat about his Kimberley boat trip he went on earlier in the year with CCC...nice guy and very helpful with info from the trip, as well as some advice on getting the most out of my Lowrance HDS8m.
Lots of nice shiny boats and all the major manufacturers were represented. A few that took my fancy included a 680 Trailblazer and at $74k, was quite reasonable. Also, a Tattoo boats 700 crew cab, 9.5m Razorline & a Chivers 220 White Pointer. The Alpha RB36 Explorer will set you back $325k.
The multi million dollar vessels took their places on the marina and they were all pretty flash and nice to look at. Black was a popular colour this year.
There were even a few high end cars there including a convertible Bugatti, a Maserati, Lambougini, Aston Martin and a Jag...definitely drool material.
regards

Crushed limestone for boat parking
Submitted by Bodie on Wed, 2012-10-10 14:15Wondering if anyone put their boat on a crushed limestone pad?
Am looking at putting down a new pad for the boat, as the grassed area is just too hard to maintain with an 8m boat on it. Problem is, part of the area is on council land so putting anything "permenant" isnt a real good idea.
Just wanting to know if anyone has used it, aqnd does compacted crushed limestone hand the work from your boat trailer going over it constantly as well as the water from washing your boat down?

Warning on Mercury fuel hoses
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2012-10-10 13:54Talking to a pro a couple of days back and he's had major problems with fuel blockages in his cat with twin Merc outboards.
After much cleaning filters and back washing tanks etc he found out that the teflon lining on Mercury fuel hoses is prone to falling to bits and clogging filters. He spoke to a local outboard mechanic and was told he'd had quite a few recent cases and all with Merc hoses.

Fish Jaws
Submitted by Yewiefish85 on Tue, 2012-10-09 20:33Hi guys just wondering if anyone out there has cut out jaws of fish the have caught? and how you went about doing it?, i have cut out shark jaws but only a couple as i dont eat shark so have only done it with sharks that i have been able to give away, the way i have done it is to use a very sharp knife and cut off all the meat and skin that i can, i then "set"the shape of the jaws with bamboo skewers cut lo length to support both verticle and horisontal then leave out in the sun for a couple of weeks to really dry out, now sharks are easy but i was wondering how others go about with other fish? or am i just a wierdo wanting the jaws as trophies?
Cheers Yewie

christmas
Submitted by SABRE on Tue, 2012-10-09 07:49Watching the news last night and it was like christmas had come early for me. Eagles announced Tom Swift has retired and Mitch Brown has asked to be traded
Nearly fell off my chair when the reporter said that this may now test the Eagles depth LMAO. I think the addition of Wellingham and Cripps will cover the loss more than adequately.

Second hand car buying tips from an Old Salt
Submitted by old salt on Sun, 2012-10-07 21:09Here is Old Salty's second car buying tip for cheap cars, came in handy today:
Gently knock on the neighbours door and ask how reputable the person selling the car is? I was almost going to buy a car today only to hear the car had been rear ended something cronic and just recently been fixed.
I didnt even bother looking at it, I hate to sound racist but if they are middle eastern etc be wary and take extra measures like service records books matching the VIN number etc and asking when the last major service occured as well as getting it inspected.

Swan Tailor
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2012-10-07 08:32Well decided to take the boys out for a troll on the Swan. My Youngest asked if his mate could tag along more the merrier. We set out at 8.30 and finished around 1pm. I'd go earlier next time. Ironic part of it was the gear we used. Reagan found this old crusty lure a few weeks back while walking along the foreshore (Rapala max wrap 15g) and used it with the rod he was handed at the rally. Well that kit fired all day and out fished the metal slices I had out the back. We probaly hooked about 20 odd Tailor all size but kept the biggest for brekky today. The biggest one was 410mm. They had a ball and had my oldest driving the boat which he loved. No one was crabbing and the water still looks a bit yellow from the recent rain so I reckon a couple of weeks and they'll move further up the river.

Happy chaps.
