getting power out of a 100 series???

I'm wondering how much I have to spend to get some decent power out of my 100 series diesel cruiser (non turbo)

I've had a troopy and now this gxl.   Both have been completely standard and pretty  gutless

What can I do, for how much $ , and what can I expect.

Cheers

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2012 ( With Dual battery pics)

I have had a heap of people ask me about the new jeep so i thought i would post a quick review.

Before i start i always use to be very Toyota bias( I still own a 60 series) and disliked jeeps.I looked around for months for a decent 100 series td or a 200 series td without being happy with any. I looked at Dmaxs, rangers, patrols and RRS, i didn't even think about looking a jeep until i saw the 3.5t Towing.

I bought the new WK2 18 months ago now its the Laredo 3LTD with 177kw/550NM stock standard apart from:

Quadralift suspension

Tow bar

Tinting

Protection pack

Braking controller.

12 Pad ERPS

120Ah Dual battery with Solar

30' LED Spotlight

Heavy Duty Roof rack

The diesel is quicker and more poerful than the v8 petrol and come with a 90l tank.  Wow this thing is quick i couldn't believe that this new little diesel was quicker than my BF 6spd manual falcon!! I have now done 5000kms and have not had any problems at all ( belive me i was expecting some)

Towing

I have now done about 10 ramp trips and a few 100kms towing trips and i am pleased to say the Jeep towing the the boat @ 2600kgs (with Hardtop) and 5 guys with gear with absolute ease, i have never felt the 'i want more power' like i use to, even fully loaded it has plenty of guts and i could comfortably overtake without over revving. The 5sped auto gearbox isn't phased at all and i haven't had to hold the gear climbing hills over anything. The Quadalift is a dream for towing, drop 300kg on the back and it auto ajusts to maintain the correct ride height.

Off road

With the bling 18's my first thought was rip em off put 16's with some decent tread, my views have somewhat changed. I have taken it through the back dunes of wedge on some decent hills with hard tires (36psi) with not to many dramas. The tyres let down at 20psi the jeep cruises nicely over softish sand with ease. The so called IFS plough hasn't been a problem yet. I Cant wait to tackle some really soft sand and some harder rock terrain. I haven't done very much rocky stuff but a little bit of mud and no worries there. The Quadralift is handy but i wouldnt get it if i was going to do more serious offroad.

Onroad

It's just absolutely pleasant to drive, comfortable as with all the little extras the no one even needs e.g auto high beam, dimming mirrors, touchscreen hd deck etc etc. The Tyre pressure monitor is pretty hand but.The car has plenty of room and good storage.

Economy

Brilliant around town about 10l/100, country 7l/100 and the 2 longer tows that i did came up at 13.3l/100 and 15.7l/100 but the verdict is still out on the towing figures until i do some longer tows.

I have done some long fully loaded tows and i now budget 15l/100 those figures are good!

Over all i don't have one bad thing to say about the car , some parts are hard and expensive to get but they are getting better. Just a few pics

Have added Dual battery pictures. 120Ah Vision battery and ctek 200 dual battery management. Faultless over the last 3 years. Have attached pictures off roofrack, spotties and stuff!

Up to 30,000 and happy as! Few mods coming soon!

Cheers Vinnie

New Isuzu Dmax

So I was asking advice on a new work ute a while back and just thought I'd share that I ended up with one of the new model Isuzu Dmax single cabs. Only had it a few days but it's already impressed me a lot! Good power towing a heavy trailer while having weight on the tray which is the main thing I was after as well as just being much more of a pleasure to drive than the old hilux! I went for the auto too while is nice. Anyone in the market for a new ride, give these a look, one of the cheapest utes in that class but certainly not the worst.

quick question (wet weather gear)

Well all,

Just wondering where is the best place to buy wellington (wellies) bootsn (long rubber boots) and wet weather gear, such as Oil skin trousers, hooded jacket, something is going to be durable and going to last the wear and tear of working on a farm,  but something with a decent price range, not wanting to break the bank.

Any suggestions be a great help.

Cheers.

Ute Recommendations?

Hey guys,

Looking at upgrading my Russian wonder beast (Niva) to a 4x4 ute (preferably diesel but no necessity) in a couple months and was wondering what are the best utes to look for in the $6-12k range? Have a rough idea of what I want but still feel unqualified to decide.

What kms are acceptable on some of the older diesels?

Will be used for primarily beach bashing, camping/long trips and driving to uni/work.

Any knowledge and personal experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Any advice?

Latest bang bang trip

Spent six days last week travelling around the Victoria River District knocking off some of beach kids friends.

Tally for the week was 3 pigs, 2 dogs, 3 bull camels and 76 donkeys.

Was hoping to find a young camel for meat but no joy this trip.

Here's a few pics.

Any FW members in Esperance potentially do me a favor

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there were any FW members in Esperance who would potentially be willing to have a look at a 4x4 for me. I would be happy to re-imburse someone with enough to buy their favourite carton or maybe more if i was lucky enough to score someone with solid mechanical knowledge.

At the moment it may not even happen, but i'm just looking at options before i lead on a potential seller. I'd basically want someone who could tell me if it is worth the drive from Perth or even if it as good as it sounds or a potential bomb.

Any help or advice is appreciated,

Cheers

Steve

Need help with test

G'day

Just wondering if anyone out there had recently sat an aptitude test at Apprenticeships Australia/CCIWA at Naval Base and I was wondering if anyone can offer any help on what to expect.

The test is scheduled for a 1.5 hr time slot and will consist of the following abstract, verbal, numerical, spatial and mechanical reasoning. I haven't sat a test for over 15 years so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Xtreme update and sale

Hi all.

Well, after a few weeks holiday i feel like i have a lot of work to do to get back on track. As mentioned in an earlier post, i am just back from a week in Gnaraloo. Once again the 20l, 27l and the 100litre mack box were put to the test. Each working overtime throughout the week. I am always surprised at how much the 100l mack holds. Pic one attached.

During my absence i see Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz has come on board. This is really impressive to see. Well done to Damo and Dave for making the move to the site. I hope it proves to be a success for you both. I have met both Dave and Damo through the site and have been very impressed with their knowledge and business prowess. It is for this reason that Xtreme Coolers is proud to supply DOS. A process that has been very enjoyable. I have fished with Dave and have seen his skills first hand. I look forward to seeing what they bring to the site. One thing is for sure, if you are down in Dunsborough and you want to get some gear, you will also get a lot of knowledge to go with it. Welcome to the site Damo. And of course, some of you will know Dave as (wind on Dave). The leaders got a thorough work out up at Gnaraloo Dave.

Xtreme Coolers is getting close to entering its third year in business. We are still a small business that is always building. Our products are always being refined to produce the best quality and control possible. It is really good to deal with a factory that is interested in making products better.

At the moment stock is looking pretty good. We have a full range of products starting with the 20litre beer cooler right up to the huge 260litre coffin.

I have a few specials at the moment for FW members. I only advertise with FW so these specials are restricted to FW members only.

1. XTWC85L Blue. This is one of the premium range coolers. It features thick side walls, rubber feet, no recess on the lid, two carry handle options, new hinge design and rubber latches. This model has performed very well and is the ideal fish or camping cooler box. It is a very large 85litre and has a very similar capacity to the standard 100l.

Pic two attached

Normally: $230.00 this week they are: $190.00 save $40.00

This is for the blue colour only.

2. XTSH260L Marble. This is our largest cooler box and is for the fisherman who has plenty of room on the boat. In saying that, i have sold one to a farmer who keeps all of his meat in it after hunting. This well designed cooler is very efficient and has the capacity to handle large quantities. Also popular with the spearos.

Pic three attached. The 260L now comes with 4 stainless latches.

Normally: $480.00 this week they are: $380.00 save $100.00. I need the space in the warehouse. There is a couple available.

To take advantage of the sales above or to come and see the full range, give Dave a call on 0403978583 or simply send a PM. Visit xtremeproducts.com.au for further information or Dave can provide that on the phone or through email.

Also, dont forget that by being a FW member you get 10% off the internet price on all coolers. I also got a good chance to try to break my cryovac. The evapac is now heading towards 5 years old and i packed over 120 bags last week without a single problem. These machines have been fantastic pic four and are also available from Xtreme Coolers.

Hope you have all been surviving the winter. Hope to meet more FW members in the near future.

And, oh yeah. Adam, when is the 2013 FW comp taking place? I need to book my flights.

Regards

Dave Allen

Used Falcon Wagon courtesy of a drunk driver

I know its not fishing related but Just thought this might interest a few as to what can happen when a Drunk driver hits the wrong side of the road exceeding 120kph.

Fortunatly Sandy Only suffered miner injuries and nothing serious.

My limo is now scrap metal and would you believe a Hyundai accent did this. The hyundai crossed over to the wrong side of the road after going accross the median strip on Tonkin Hwy

Older 4x4 buying advice/opinions wanted

Hi guys,

Currently looking at investing in an older diesel 4x4, something around the late 90's or 2000 age bracket with a budget of around 5-6k. Ideally i'd like it to be dual cab and ill be using it for uni/work as well as towing the dinghy for potential w'ends to mandurah etc....

As alot of you guys have owned 4x4's i was wondering if there are any particular models and engines to stay away from. At the moment i've been loking at navaras and hiluxs with thoughts of including the rodeos.

I wont be looking to buy for probaby a couple of months but wanted to do some research to hopefully prevent buying a bomb

Cheers, Steve

Gnaraloo teasers

Full report to come. Had a good time at Gnaraloo recently. Spent a fair bit of time in shallow with light gear. The spanlgies were in force as usual. Lots of mackies and tuna. The variety was awsome as usual. For those interested, the golden went 105cm. Longest we have encountered.

Here are a few pics to get you going.

Hunting in the Southwest

Hi all,

I know it's a long shot but just thought I'd try putting the call out on here too to maximize my chances of finding a property. Basically I'm trying to find a property in the Southwest who is happy for me to go hunting on, I live in Bunbury so anywhere in the southwest would be awesome. Would only be shooting a .22 rifle so nothing extreme, and interested in targeting rabbits, foxes, feral cats, small game.

I'm a SSAA member and have just recently started at a local rifle club, as well as getting in a fair bit of range time lately. Im honest and mature minded and not out to cause mischief, just hoping to have some fun whilst also eliminating pests and feral animals. So would love to hear from anyone with a property willing to have me or provide any information that might steer me in the right direction.

Cheers Sam.

Spindrift Dinghy Fitout

Gday

Thought i'd follow on from brenz's recent project boat forum post and throw up a couple of pics of a recent project i started on the weekend... My project being a fair bit easier work as i bought the hull from finn kayaks, was in good condition to begin with and ready to customize from the get go.

So here's the dinghy... bought it as a factory second and came with the ali rowing oars, folding anchor with rope and paperwork to register it. Found a brand new 2.5hp suzuki outboard on Gumtree whisper quiet to idle it along those snags in the swan... and best bit is its light enough (55kg) to launch by myself ;)

Got it registered and started the fitout on the weekend just past. Here's the progress pic...

All thats left to do is chuck the rego stickers on and fix my old furuno sounder/ airmar transducer combo that i recently upgraded on the big tub to it. Might chuck a bit of carpet to the inside if i have enought time too.

Costs for those thinking it could be a viable option if looking at getting a fishing kayak or similar.

- Finn 3m spindrift dinghy $800

- Suzuki 2.5hp 4 stroke Outboard $750

- New Vessel Registration $115

Extras obviously arent necessary but another $500 would get it decked out really blingy lol.

Ill try post more pics once its finished and maybe a vid of it in action once its on the water.

Hope this gives a few people ideas to have a crack at something similar.

Cheers Rob

Anything may Help.!!

Hi all, this is a long shot.

But I said I may as well throw in a post on here and see if any of you fellow Fishos will be able to help a fellow fisho out, or may know anyone or anything that may help me and my fiancee.

The situation is my Fiancee and I both have to work 88 days in a regional area in Australia. We have been working in Perth in the one Job now going on 6 months, which is the limit to what we can work in any one job with the visa we have. (Working Holiday)

We have a dilemma now, that means we either find work on a farm/road-house/caravan park (agricultural/hospitality or fishing jobs) within a hour or so drive of Joondalup (where we are living at present), or in any of these Postcodes: 6041 to 6044, 6083 to 6084, 6121 to 6126, 6200 to 6799, This is to enable us to have a second year visa extension, to stay in this beautiful country.

Or else we will have to pack our bags and fly to another city or state leaving all that we have built here in the last 6 months behind us. (not something we want to do, if can be helped)

I have tried searching Gumtree, seek, and the local papers, with not much luck.

So I am calling for someones help on here, I know it is a long shot, but I can assure you, we wont let you down, We are both Hardworking, Honest, and motivated people. Coming from a country-side background from Ireland, working the land is not something we are afraid of. In fact we are looking forward to experiencing some different situations and cant wait to get our hands dirty.

If you can help, or know anybody that might be able to point us in the right direction, I will be more than happy to try any avenue to stay within WA.

Please, Please do not hesitate to send me a Pm with any help or advise.

Thanks so much for reading this, and hope you can help or provide some feedback on where to start.

Regards

Wayne.
