Broome and beyond

Hi All. Well in less than a weeks time i'm heading off to Broome and the kimberly's for 7 weeks. Will be heading right up to Kulumbaru and Wyndam as well. As I have never been that far north I was wondering if anyone had any info on good fishing spots up there ie rivers or offshore. We are taking a car topper up with us so should be able to access most spots. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Colin [ 1 :) ] - The Pole Update

We were suppossed to go fishing today, but changed our minds yesterday afternoon and were looking forward to a bit of a sleep in.

07:30am this morning - all hell broke loose as three cherry picker trucks, 2 tray tops, 3 utes and a crane/augure truck pulled up and commenced replacing the pole out the front of our place Yell (yes we still have those in the country Wink ) .

Here's the guys starting to remove the old pole - quite a bit of infastructure off it:

Top half gone courtesy of a chain saw (lovelly sound ! Tongue out)

Out comes the bottom half:

In goes the Augur (sp) to drill out the cr*p from the old pole and sink the hole deeper

They've just left - long day for the chaps. Not fishing, not a winge, just doesn't happen every day.

water corp media statement

WATER CORPORATION
MEDIA STATEMENT

Desalination plant operating on reduced capacity

The Water Corporation has reduced the daily output of the Perth Seawater Desalination Plant to one sixth of its capacity because of low dissolved oxygen levels at the bottom of Cockburn Sound.

Manager Environment, David Luketina said today the Corporation has taken this action to comply with its operating licence for the plant which requires daily throughput to be reduced if dissolved oxygen levels reach a certain trigger point.

Dr Luketina said historically the dissolved oxygen levels in Cockburn Sound naturally dropped to relatively low levels during very light winds in autumn. The conservative trigger levels in the operating licence aim to ensure that any potential detrimental impact from the plant would be avoided. However, even the naturally occurring dissolved oxygen levels measured prior to the plant commencing operation in November 2006 could not meet the licence requirements.

“The Corporation has provided considerable evidence that low oxygen levels do not occur because of the discharge of seawater concentrate from the desalination plant,” he said. “We are therefore disappointed that we have had to reduce production to comply with our current licence.

“Once the dissolved oxygen levels return to above the trigger point we will immediately boost production to normal daily capacity of about 130 megalitres.

“We believe this is likely sometime over the weekend.”

Dr Luketina said the Corporation had submitted a 557-page submission to the Environmental Protection Authority requesting that the trigger levels for dissolved oxygen levels be removed because extensive modelling, monitoring and independent research over the past year had demonstrated that the operations of the desalination plant did not affect dissolved oxygen levels in the Sound. The research was undertaken by the Centre for Water Research at the University of WA.

The public submission period for comments on the Corporation’s proposal that the trigger levels for reducing production at the plant be removed closed on 14 April. The Corporation will respond to all comments.

It was expected that the EPA will decide on the Corporation’s request later this year.

FiveFathomBank

What is the best part of the bank to fish for snapper?
Are there parts of the bank that produce more than others?

Weather Down South

In response to Colin's interest (cheers! Wink) , we'd been promised the 'chance of a shower or thunderstorm'  (talk about  covering all bases Yell) over Wednesday and Thursday. A lot of cloud about yesterday, with the odd 'spit' and deep thunder rumbles increasing in the evening yesterday. But the thunderstorm never arrived (over Barker anyway). Basically, just constant drizzle or moderate rain over night. The skies are a heavily leaden dark gray outside and getting darker - so, if I dissappear, things might have gobe BOOM! Foot in mouth

With NO WINDS yesterday morning, it would have been a cracker for boat fishing Cry and yes, of course, the weather goes to hell in a hand basket for the weekend Yell

On the bright side, the farmers will be getting a good sprinkle and my Monday five hours mowing and slashing my half acre of (almost) lawn, flogging my lil 2 stoke mower hasn't gone to waste Tongue out

F#@king Pricks !!

Some prick broke into my car last night and Im pissed offYell

When is somebody gonna do something about these drug f@#ked losers.

What's the secret????????

OK, i know i have had advise and info from people on the site which i appreciate,
but what is the bloody secret to catch a pink snapper in the sound????????????
I have tryed all the usually places like abandoned jettys,d9,gravel patches, sulphar rock, harding rock.
At different times of the day and with all sorts of bait, i sit there for ages and not so much as a bite!
Am i the only person to not catch a snapper? What am i doing wrong?(NO COMMENT NEED FROM FISHY FINGER!).
I even tryed a spot a guy told me he catches them every time, dont know how true.
Any more info or advise would be great
THANKS

Pimp my boat

Alright guys, thought this might be a bit of fun (and help me/give me ideas as well). What would you do/add to this boat to mak it the ultimate inshore/bream/lure/sportfishing boat out there. It doesn't matter how small the item may be, all ideas are welcome, even if it is just stickers or clips to hold something etc.

I will start with a Minn Kota on the front and a upgrade to the sounder/GPS/chartplotter.

By the way the boat is a 435 Bluefin Wildcat

Cheers guys

Multiple photo thread assistance

Guys

I must be having a senior moment YellTongue out, but I'm stuffed if I can remember how to post content with either multiple photos, or text with a selected place in the text for the photo (as opposed to an Image with text at the bottom).

I've gone through the help post and attempted to use the [IMG][/img] HTML tags but that didn't work, I assume I need to add [URL][/url] tags as well. I've added a test photo at http://dreamweaver.myphotoalbum.com/view_photo.php?set_albumName=album02&id=Sambo but can't get it to work.

I know (believe) I could upload an image via either the Create Image Content facility (but then I would end up with two posts - the image and the refrring text post - which I don't want) or via the My Account file upload - but that only allows 500x500?

Anyone that can simply help this old codger out please?

I know your here

Happy birthday Monksy .

Watch the news on Wednesday 16th

Howdy all,

Watch the news on Wednesday night. I'm putting my boat over the top of the HMAS Sydney wreck and holding a service to remember those that lost their lives keeping us safe.

Mercury outboard owners

Hi
I have a 75hp 4 stroke mercury outboard on my 5.4m Trailcraft Trailblazer.
At 5000rpm i am gettin about 26.5 knots in glassy conditions.
Does that seem right? I thought i would get better, around 30/32 knots?
What do other mercury owners think? is that about right?
Any info and advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
