What fuel should I use in 4 stroke yamaha
Submitted by Bedgy13 on Mon, 2022-02-07 08:27Hey all, I've recently bought a boat and it has a 60hp 4 stroke yamaha on it, the guy I bought it off said he had been using 98 unleaded in it, I've read that they are designed to use 91 unleaded, my question is do I continue using the 98 or just use 91?

Storm front. And a feed
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sat, 2022-02-05 16:23Finished work at a bit after 11 and as usual the rods were in the car. High tide of 6.8mtrs at 1:45 it gave me some time to fish.
The wind was blowing around 30ks but from behind so not to bad apart from sands blasting the back of the legs.
Got my feed of whiting before they shut down and kept a couple for live bait which resulted in a nice trev which swam away nicely after , a monster shovel lost at the waters edge after er r a 45 minuit fight and finished with a small shark.
Watched a nice storm front go through with a bit of lightning and lots of rain but none for town.

How to clean sharks
Submitted by carnarvonite on Fri, 2022-02-04 15:09On one of Russ' pages I was asked to provide a video on how to clean a shark, seeing as I haven't been out or look like gloing out to get one in the near future I penned a description on how to do it.
Many moon ago I put a thing on the site on how to clean them, not a video though I will try to catch one and get missus to record it when I clean it.
How to do it
Cut tail off.
Cut across the back of the head where you see the small crease above first joint in its spine taking care not to go through into the throat.
Roll it on its back and grab a front fin, cut from behind the fin following the gill cavity along to the head where you cut through the spine and the point under its chin. Do the same to other side of shark so that the chin cuts meet up
Remove both pelvic fins, cutting deep enough to remove the 2 small bone underneath
Cut from its vent up the belly to where the 2 chin cuts meet up.
Put one hand under its head and bend it towards it belly, if you have done your cuts properly it should come down and bring the throat and innards with it, Drag it down past the bottom of the belly cavity and cut it off.
That will have exposed the brown strip along the spine , this has to all come out.
Once this is removed wash it and make sure the small hole down the spine through to the tail is clear as blood can block it and go rotten.
Fingers crossed this will help those who have trouble cleaning them and dispel a few myths about cutting fins off and other bullshit. Cutting fins off only removes something to hold onto when you try to grab them

Quobba or Ningaloo
Submitted by CD on Wed, 2022-01-26 20:55Hi All
After some advice about where to head for a few nights in May. It's a family trip so leaving the boat behind and taking the off-road camper. Have two young kids under 6 and was hoping for some advice on the most family friendly place to stay? Keen to stay as close to the beach as possible but I've never been in to either place so not sure where best to head.
Anyone have an opinion?
thanks

Submitted by Faulkner Family on Tue, 2022-01-25 19:51 No work today so fishing it was. Kept 3 sharks all around 700 long and let another 5 go. Lost a couple of queenies, they certainly love to jump when hooked. Got a good feed so no complaints

A few for the plate
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2022-01-23 18:56 Not a lot going on but managed a few for the plate. Kept 2 Queenies as they were gut hooked and released another 2 around the size of the bigger on. Got a couple of small sharks and managed a few whiting which have been a bit scarce lately.

Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2022-01-21 17:28After the 2015 and 2018 GFs it looks like old mate has pissed his pants again. He could have at least done the righty and let the club trade him to Freo before pulling the pin.
At least Oscar will be able to play as a permanent forward and hopefully drop less chest marks.

Boat lighting
Submitted by davewillo on Thu, 2022-01-20 10:58I need to get more light into the cockpit area of my boat. The cabin area is very well lit but you can't see jack shit sitting in the cockpit. Wife probably prefers it that way lol!
I've got a couple of really bright LED's from Jaycar but they're not sealed marine units. The marine ones I can find are not that bright so I'm wondering if the Jaycar ones are okay to use. They will be mounted on the underside of the fibreglass targa and the whole area is enclosed with covers and clears, but it's still a marine environment. I don't care if they only last a few years but my concern is if the corode and stain the glass.
Appreciate thoughts from those with experience.

Shed builder
Submitted by rob90 on Mon, 2022-01-17 11:44Hi all, I'm in the market for a custom shed build. Just wondering if anyone on here is in the shed game or has recently had a good experience with a business that they can recommend. Job is in balcatta and shed will be around 6mx8m with all the fruits like side access door roller doors roof vents dust proofing etc. I got a few quotes before the world went mad so I've got an understanding of what I'm up for cost wise, just thought I'd check here before pulling the trigger.

Tackle box contents
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2022-01-10 18:27Was thinking about what always used to be in my tackle box but isn't now
As a former Bunbury jetty rat who had handlines hidden on pile caps for when I wagged school so we could get a fish or two to pass off to the pensioners down the end, the Red Cross landing or at the Blacksmiths shop if they had been unsuccessful.
Bits of sheet lead were the thing that stood out, Used to wrap around the line depending on if skippy turned up while fishing for gardies and you needed the bit of extra weight and vice versa

Dual Mount Hitch for Bikes
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Mon, 2022-01-10 11:37Has anyone used one of these dual hitch ball mounts with a bike carrier and their boat? It’s an absolute PITA getting all 5 bikes into the boat and I am looking for an option to whack the adult ones on a carrier and these look like a pretty good option if they are legal to use.
Cheers JF

Big brassy trev
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sat, 2022-01-08 18:12 Went down to the bank for some r and r . Wasn't too much going on other than the usual whiting and small sharks . About an hour before high tide I did a bait check on both rods . Livies were no longer living . Fresh poddy mullet on one rod and a gardie on the other. About 10minutes later the mullet got taken with line screaming off tho old Shakespeare, looked at the other rod and it was going off as well. (Usual all or nothing ) As I had lighter line on the Shakespeare I chose to stay with that. As I looked out I saw a Queenie jumping and thaught oh well if it get off no loss. After about 15 minutes back and forth with lines crossing I got the big brassy on the beach and as I was untangling the lines the Queenie went nuts again so landed that one as well. Got my feed of whiting and a nice lizard as well . Great feeds on the way . The brassy was around the 12 to 13 kg range so it's another p b for me

Power outages
Submitted by davewillo on Tue, 2022-01-04 16:23Happy new year all.
Did anyone else have extended power issues during the heatwave? On Boxing Day we relocated our family dinner from my sister's in Darlington to our place in Sorrento on the basis we have a pool and aircon. 15 minutes before they start arriving the aircon dies - brownout. Some lights working and the odd powerpoint. Needless to say not impressed! Luckily there was no hot food planned. No estimated time for rectification which is not much fun when you're sweltering as the ceiling fans wouldn't work either.
Got up on Monday, packed the boat and pissed off to Rotto. Power came on briefly that afternoon and then the other phase went out soon after until Tuesday afternoon. Nearly 48 hours without sufficient power to keep food cold, run AC or fans is no joke in 40 plus heat. Friends nearby had the same issues but that was a separate WP incident. I don't think it's a secret that Perth summers are hot so I think the scale of problems aren't really acceptable with over 34,000 customers (probably 100,000 people) impacted. There are no doubt FW members that know a lot more so I'm interested in your thoughts.
On the plus side Rotto was bloody awesome!

Hot Water System Carked It
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2021-12-30 20:11I've got a 12y old gas storage system. Pilot light went out and the bottom of it is full of water so assuming the tank has corroded.
Worst time of year for this to happen but can anyone recommend a plumber who can sort me out with a new one sometime in the next week?
Cheers JF

Beehives in the boat - need advice!
Submitted by beeroclock on Thu, 2021-12-30 15:21Just before last summer I started keeping my boat on a property at the back of Margininup. I had not used the boat for about a month after dropping it off there. When i went to use it I found bees had made a hive in the storage compartment under the bunk in the cabin. It was a friggin nightmare trying to spray them, remove their nest and clean all the hundreds of dead bees that were stuck in old honey etc it was a fukn mess. Cleaned it sprayed it all with baygon surface spray, disinfectant and thought that would stop them from coming again.. Anyway.........I didnt use my boat during the 2 month ban and went to use it on monday. Now 2 HUGE hives and thousands of bees buzzing in cabin faark!. My mates a hobby beekeeper so he suited up, sprayed flyspray removed both hives , couldnt find the queens and now ive got a huge mess of dead bees stuck in honey everywhere. Gonna go out there and clean it this weekend. What spray / chemical can i put in there to stop them from coming back and making more hives ?

Big bull on the bank
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Wed, 2021-12-29 19:36 A young bloke fishing out on the bank had one hook up and got busted off . An hour later hooked up again. This time he held on and the fight took him up and down the beach for over an hour ..end result was a big bull I estimate around 200 kg (after helping move it )removed the hook along with someone else's big shark hook and a few pics then released back to the water with a bit of a struggle by 2 of us and it swam off. Great results for the young bloke who has been trying for 2 years to land one.
