Help Desperately Needed: Rotto Swim

hi guys,

Two mates of mine have just been delivered some pretty devastating news... Their support boat for the Rotto swim has just cracked a head. These blokes have put in a huge amount of effort to prepare for the swim so if there is anyone able and willing to support them for the crossing, they'd be forever in your debt.

All costs will obviously be covered.

Day on the water

Decided to take the father in law out for a fish today we headed out of ocean reef at about 715 to a spot about 15 nm out by 930 we had 2 baldies and a good black ass in the boat. Was thinking we would be home early, well what a bad thought that was the breeze dropped not long after and stopped the drift. we fished for another 4 hrs with out a sized fish. Still had a good day out the trip back in was a great ride once the swell and wind dropped

Blue water comp tomorrow

Engel stolen

folks had my 40l engel in transit bag stolen out of the back of my ute at home in Belmont last night.   If you see a 40l without a 12v cord, they didn't bother to unplug it they just cut it off, let me know as it may be mine. Found the receipt,  model isMT 45, serial AT0172.  40th anniversary model so has digital display and 40th decals.

Cheers

Other hobbies

I know we all dream and pray for fine fishing weather! Haha

But would be interesting to hear of what other hobbies people enjoy besides doing up rigs and oiling their reels!

As for me, I love a bit of gardening and trying to build up a tropical fruit tree collection.  So far I have Longan, Wax Jambu, Grapefruit, Guava and looking for other exotic fruit trees.

Looking for a boat for Rotto Channel Swim

Howdy,

So my sister has left her run pretty late but in short she is looking for a boat for the Channel Swim on Feb 25th. Her and a friend are hoping to be the first indigenous duo crossing. She has specified 6m+ but I'm sure anything 5m+ will do the trick (beggars can't be choosers!). Unfortunately my boat is not big enough.

Please let me know if you might be interested and what sort of $$ you'd be looking at to borrow your boat for the day.

Thanks!

Eating shark mac

Managed to make the most of the calm weather yesterday afternoon and got out with Nick aka Pajman on this forum. Caught a shark Mackerel on the light gear which despite our efforts would not release and as such decided to keep it. Bled it completely out before putting it on ice. I've read mixed reports as to their eating quality. I'm thinking of making a curry but open to any other suggestions!

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Hoax Calls

Got a call out at 12 today, the Steep Point ranger station received a Mayday call from a vessel supposedly off False Entrance. End result, 2 volunteers in a rescue vessel for 6 hours, over 500 litres of fuel, a search plane flown down from Karratha, 2 hours of searching by the plane while we waited in Steep Point in case we had missed something before finally getting the all clear to return home to Denham.

Sadly some miserable prick gets a laugh out of his childish prank but what if something serious happened in the meantime and these valuable resources were tied up as we treat all calls as real emergencies.

Personally if I caught him before the police did he would be walking real funny with a VHF radio and aerial shoved right up his clacker

Be fair to say that the Josh from MKR is Meeuwissen from here eh?

Lifejacket - Old4New exchange program Ocean Reef Marina

DOT will be holding this event in the car park of Ocean Reef Marina on Sunday 12th February between 9.00am & 11.00am

About the Old4New exchange program

The Department of Transport (DoT) in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society of Western Australia (RLSSWA) will be commencing Phase 2 of the Old4New lifejacket upgrade and awareness campaign in 2017.

The campaign aims to promote the wearing of lifejackets at all times while boating and provides an incentive for people to act and upgrade their old, uncomfortable lifejacket to a new, easy to wear slim style inflatable lifejacket.

The upgrade program will operate as follows:

  • The DoT and RLSSWA Old4New lifejacket upgrade program will visit five metropolitan and twelve regional boat ramps during 2017. RLSSWA will enable members of the public to upgrade any old, damaged or obsolete lifejacket for a new automatic, inflatable lifejacket at a reduced price of $65.
  • The purchase of a new lifejacket from the RLSSWA at the Old4New campaign tent is only available at the metropolitan locations and limited to one per boat.
  • There will be a maximum of 50 lifejackets available as part of the upgrade at each metropolitan location. Once the RLSSWA lifejacket allocation is exhausted, or if a member of the public wishes to upgrade more than one lifejacket, an opportunity exists to exchange their old lifejacket/s for a voucher that will be provided by DoT.
  • The voucher will entitle the person to purchase a new automatic or manual inflatable jacket from a participating retail store and get a $15 discount off the usual price.
  • There is a limit of two vouchers per boat in the metropolitan area and three in regional areas, with a maximum of 100 vouchers available at each upgrade location.

Backing up Navionic marks from Android

 Hi guys

My phone has some spider cracks and not sure how long before its unusable.  Andy, if you don't hear from me on whatsapp for a few days, you'll know why! Lol

Anyway,  I have some good marks/spots on my Navionics apps.  Rather than write down every co-ords, is there an easier way, such as backing up or transfer to my tablet which also has a navionics app?

Thanks!

Boat Taking Water

Gents,

Not 100% but think the hull might have been taking water on the weekend. It is sealed that I know off….

Few weeks back on take-off after a drift the boat seemed to be ass heavier than normal and at speed wanted to lean a bit to one side...thought it chewed a little more fuel than normal also but wasn’t convinced.

Then Sunday gone after being on anchored for a few hours and then pulling up on a stuck pot it felt the same, swear I could feel the water hit the floor below me feet. What’s the go on finding if there is water entering....sit and watch after pulling out of the water, guess it should be leaking the same way it’s getting in although I think this is slowly….or drill a hole in the  bilge tank and add another bung ?..any thoughts appreciated, nothing is standing out as too were the water could be entering...5.7m.

Massive shout out to the firefighters

long long night here. flames too close for comfort.

but a huge thank you to the hundreds of both professional and volunteers who put in the time and effort to get the Byford and Wungong fires under control. Fantastic. Can only hope this rain comes soon to put a complete end to it.

T-top fabricators in perth recommendations please

Customs at Perth Airport

The Mrs gets back from Bali tonight and I'm gonna surprise her and get the kids babysat so I can meet her there. Can any of you Bali regulars give me an indication of how long it will take her to get through customs on a 7:30 arrival?

Now that's a knife

Just received the new knife from Mick C's Shore Catch shop, it's just what I ordered and many thanks to him for chasing them down.
I have used these for many years and they are what I would call an all round knife, use it for filleting, skinning fish, slicing steak, boning out sheep, goats and even beef plus all the other things that we shouldn't do with a quality knife.

Looking for an offsider

 G'day guys,

Work is starting to pick up for me now and am looking for a casual offsider in my metal fabrication workshop. Someone young/ish  who's willing to learn and a future prospect of an apprenticeship if the work continues to flow. Must have a driver's and forklift licence and some fabrication workshop experience preffered. I do a fair range of steelwork from oil and gas, structural and general repair work also  a lot of site work so it never gets boring. If anyone is interested please pm me your details.

Cheers

Andy
