Any fridge guru's on here?
Submitted by pelagicyachts on Tue, 2017-01-31 08:59Hoping someone can shed some light on a problem I had with our fridge yesterday
Have a ~4 year old Fisher and Paykel French door fridge (double door) with freezer underneath
got home around 5pm and noticed the fridge was warm - freezer was a nice slurry - everything working (lights, compressor, fan etc) pulled out the fridge and the compressor was really hot (have read that this may be normal)and water in the tray above compressor
Turned it off and emptied the whole fridge/freezer - at the rear of the fridge there is no grill or cooling fins - just a compressor and copper pipes that go into a sealed section of the back of the fridge - (and by sealed I mean spot welded)
It was turned off for about 2 hours - I turned it back on and it straight away started getting cold and left over night it now seems to be working fine (ice maker making ice, freezer freezing)
Can anyone advise what may have caused that and more to the point what may still be wrong with it? (ok for compressor to get that hot? -could not hold my hand on it)
pic below is all that is accessible behind fridge (there is a plastic tray that sits on top that water drips into - there is also a small copper tube that snakes its way around this tray)
Living out of my engel and bar fridge until I am happy its ok!

Stainless Occy pots
Submitted by sea-kem on Mon, 2017-01-30 18:57Just looking for opinions etc. I have some 1.6mm 5" stainless pipe left over from a job and was wondering how they'd go as Occy pots? The only thing that concerned me was the noise they might make rolling and bouncing on the bottom. Some toe jam releaved me of my last set so need to get anothe set out there as I'd been doing well.

Upcoming Election - Shooters Fishers Farmers Party
Submitted by Tradewind on Mon, 2017-01-30 17:42It's going to be a tough one with One Nation pressuring a lot of seats, but if you want to keep Water ways open, fair access for 4x4 & Land use including Shooting and a fair go for farmers then consider supporting SFFP
Great to see this year there's 19 Lower house candidates and 16 Upper house candidates
Good luck Rick & Team!

Mungbean Mundine
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2017-01-30 06:12See Mungbean Mundine is at it again, its been reported that he will refuse to stand for the national anthem in his upcoming fight with Danny Green.
Not that Danny needs more ammunition to get fired up but that is offering him a fresh bucketful.

BBQ Ribs
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2017-01-29 12:11Woke up to dreadful weather and switched on the TV to an episode of Man, Fire, Food and decided it's time to spend my day dedicated to my other love which is cooking shit low and slow in smoke so found some meaty ribs and brushed on some sweet mustard and covered them with a basic rub and into the smoker they go.
I'm using the 321 method which is smoking them at 225f for 3 hours on the rack, covering with foil and adding a splash of apple cider vinegar for a further 2 hours and then unwrapping them and placing them back on the grill and smoking for a final hour.
A bit later one I'll make a smoky BBQ sauce using molasses as my sugar base.
I've got a Hark electric smoker which runs through an external Auberins PID controller to keep the temps rock solid rather than the swings you get with the stock thermostat which is also in the wrong place. I've developed a method where I chuck in a few chunks of charcoal to give it the pink smoke ring and taste that you cannot get using just the electric element and I also place my Maverick ET-732 to keep an eye on the grill temperature while I'm in the house just in case something goes wrong.
Now all I have to do is add small handfulls of chips every 15-20 minutes and dream of smoked ribs.

Algae
Submitted by collin g wood on Sat, 2017-01-28 19:36G'day, while walking dogs at palm beach this arvo, noticed green algae/green coloured water between the yacht club and the fishing club, walked out into the water and found two dead crabs intact but devoid of any meat, is this reportable? If so to who? Or is it nothing of concern?

Plane crash
Submitted by Rob H on Thu, 2017-01-26 22:08
Everyone knows what happened by now I'm sure.
Our story; (language warning)
Been out at Rotto since last weekend with the kids.
Left this morning at about 10, celebrations already well underway at the beach moorings...
Entered the river and pulled up before Dome to unload all the unnecessary clutter to the car which was parked at Fuzzy79's house (he's a bloody legend!)
Came through the narrows and anchored on the beach at 3 and settled in, kids in the water etc.
Watched the 2 seaplanes doing touch and go's twice then 3rd time the Grumman (looked like to me, same as the ones common in Auckland when I was a kid) flew over us quite a bit lower than I'd have though their "deck" was.
Sounded healthy though it didn't sound as though it had much power on as those radials are usually pretty loud.
Picked up beer to see it rolling over into plainly a death dive.
Not certain if the boys actually saw it but I called out and they would have seen the splash.
There was of course lots of VHF16 activity which swapped to 9.
An hour later on vhf16 the cancellation was announced though they would not say why.
And here began the really fucked up part of the accident.
Someone piped up asking "why"
DOT said they were not at liberty to say more yet.
"what a load of fucking shit, fucking assholes" or similar.
Someone else jumped and explained plane crash, fatal.
And to maybe show some respect.
From there was just a torrent of abuse, fuck, cunt asshole, wanker etc with many people telling him to pull his head in and authorities trying go over the top.
Whoever you were mate, you are an A grade, top of the range FUCK KNUCKLE. I'm hoping you are a member so you read this. Beside the tragic deaths, the crash site looks to be inside the exclusion zone. Hence it'd be ludicrous to halt a body recovery for a fireworks show.

Albury to Perth
Submitted by Krusty on Sun, 2017-01-22 19:52Just thought I would throw it out there.......
I will be driving from Albury, NSW on Thursday 26th Jan and arriving in Perth on Sunday29th Jan in a ute.
If anyone needs something transported from there or anywhere on the way that will fit in a ute (has a conopy) I would be willing to bring it over for you if I can fit it in.
Don't mind making slight detours within reason but my general route will be-
Albury, Renmark, Port Augusta, Ceduna, Norseman, Hyden and Perth.
Cheers,
Steve

boat and trailer maintenance
Submitted by Anonymous on Sun, 2017-01-22 14:19went out for a early morning crab today, was gonna take my tinny but my mate said " na mate we'll just jump in mine it'll be easier". he's got a older sytle fibreglass centre console with a older model 4 stroke merc on it, been on it a few times goes well for what it is. So we put in at ascot and take off towards the city for a crab and out of curiosity i asked when was the last time the merc was serviced? mate reckons it's probably well over due but the thing hasnt missed a beat, 20 mins later the thing keeps on stalling but starts and then runs for a whlie and then stalls again, mate assures me its all good so we carry on and catch 6 nice big blueys and head back. We get back to the boat ramp and we're pulling the boat up when out of curiosity again i ask when was the last time you did your wheel bearings? mate replies about a year ago but reckons they've got bearing buddies and he always pumps fresh grease in. no worries. anyway we say our goodbyes and go our seperate ways down great eastern hwy, i'm following my mate and he's going straight and i was gonna turn at the lights when i notice something go flying off the boat trailer, lucky the lights turned red and we both stopped coz i ran out and had a look at what it was, it's the bearing buddy and the bearing was shredded! My mate didn't even notice and was in a daydream waiting for the lights to change, i got his attention and told him to pull up around the corner. the 300 meter slow coast to get off the main road nearly resulted in the bloody wheel nearly falling off! The scary thing is he was gonna get on tonkin hwy to get home like he usually does. would of hated to see what would of happened there!

Nutcase in Melbourne
Submitted by timboon on Fri, 2017-01-20 16:40Why oh why didnt someone just take this fuckwit out....
Tee boned him while he was hanging out the window!!
Surely they couldnt throw the book at you properly for taking such a person out in an act of citizen arrest albeit a bit blues brothers....
Old mate running in with the baseball bat was keen but at least he had a crack not like all the other knobs driving past and around him....
Old mate in the black merc should have the money to replace the car, fuck surely crowd funding woulda chimed in and bought him a newy for his public service....
I was dreaming of the 07 lux in all its glory shunting him all the way to heaven...
Amen....

Skin checks... get them done!
Submitted by Anonymous on Fri, 2017-01-20 11:06For the last 2 years I've been getting regular skin checks, on my last visit they noticed one that had considerably changed from the previous check (6 months) to the naked eye it looked the same to me. Anyway if I hadn't of gone in I would have been none the wiser, had changed enough for them to take it out straight away! They took an area the size of a 20c piece and has been sent off for biopsy... so I recommend you do the same if you havnt been in a while.

Steven Smith Appreciation Thread
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Fri, 2017-01-20 10:59He is now the fastest player to make 3000 ODI runs surpassing Bevan and George Bailey and averaging 44 with a strike rate of 87.
In Tests he has 17 tonnes and 20x 50s to his name from 50 Tests at an average of 60 which pushes up to 66 if you only look at his time in the side as a batsman rather than his failed all rounder position.
I'll be the first to put my hand up and admit I was wrong, dead wrong about this fella when he first came on the scene but what a player he has become and to think that he's still only 27 and can still get better.
His Captaincy may need some development especially on when to use his bowlers ( if you listen to Tubby and Warne in the box) but I get the feeling that he does things his own way which seems to be working for him so far.

Rottnest Channel Swim - Boat & Skipper required
Submitted by kazglenn on Tue, 2017-01-17 08:53Hi,
I know all the Perth based skippers with boats may have already been approached by swimmers in the Rottnest Channel swim on Saturday 25/2/17 - but I thought I would share our situation and see if you or anyone you know might be interested in the gig?
Our swim team of 4 is making the trip over from Victoria for the swim. Unfortunately our boat and skipper had to withdraw his services last week and it has left us in a bit of a pickle. So we need a local Perth boat and skipper for the day to support our team and kyak crew. More details on the boat/skipper requirements; rottnestchannelswim.com.au/event-info/faq-2/#section12
If no experience in the event the organisers run briefings etc.
Obviously our team would meet all boating and skipper costs...plus. We just need a commitment at this stage and then we can work out details.
The team is a great bunch of people and out to (safely) enjoy the day not win sheep stations! If you or a mate is interested and would like to discuss before committing details below.
Thank you
Glenn Gibson

Best autopilot for 7m ali boat
Submitted by Stoinka on Mon, 2017-01-16 16:46Just wanted some opinions on which autopilot seems to work best in a small boat.
Apparently Garmin is the go due to its highly responsive compass.
So anyone with a Simrad or any make! I would love to here your views before I commit.
Cheers Stoinka
