Solar panels - worth saving from home demolition??
Submitted by bradz on Wed, 2017-05-24 11:05Morning all
I will shortly be demolishing an old house that has 8 solar panels on the roof. Are these worth salvaging? See picture.
Also, it has a bloody big Frangipani in the front yard that I am hoping to save...but if I cant, does anyone know what it would be worth to sell?
Cheers

Two rocks
Submitted by Mark-GSOC on Tue, 2017-05-23 10:22Hi all. I'm planning of launching out of two rocks marina soon, are there any hazards such as hard to see reefs that I should know about or is it well signed? Also if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding the best spots in around that area and what they're catching that'd be great. I've only just got my boat so offshore fishing is new to me. Thanks

any fridge mechanics - help needed
Submitted by Paul N on Sun, 2017-05-21 11:09Hoping somebody may be able to help .
I have been given an 80ltr 12 volt fridge / freezer that isn't working as it should and was hoping someone may be able to offer advice as may be the problem . Don't know the history of the unit as it was left at a friends house years ago and they were going to throw it out.
It is an older model called Icelander that only has a 12volt input not mains power . It uses a Domus T26K dc 12/24v R134a compressor .
Everything seems to be working in that I can set a temperature and the fridge compressor kicks in and starts to work . Takes a while to start to get cool inside but never gets down to desired temp . If I set it for -19deg it may get down to +4 or 5 deg after its left running overnight . Lowest i got it too was -2deg after setting it to -19 and running it for 12hours . Have tried everything I know to find the problem but I'm stumped .
Now thinking it needs regassing but not sure why gas would be missing and if so would it not get cold at all ?
Tried calling a few fridge repair places and as soon as I say its a 12 volt fridge they don't want to know about it even when I say all components are easy to get to like a normal chest freezer. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it but if the fault can be diagnosed/fixed it would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated .
Cheers Paul

Insurance again...
Submitted by gruntre69 on Thu, 2017-05-18 14:00I know there are other threads about this which I have read, but after this morning I thought this was worth a thread.
I'm so tired of underhanded way insurance companies go about their business where the normal seems to be: Do anything to get a new customer and then punish existing customers.
Example: Boat insurance for me this year is my first renewal and after ringing around for quotes last year when I bought the boat and finding variations of as much as $400 I went with Suncoro who was the cheapest and had good cover. This year they send a renewal with an agreed value reduction of 6% and a premium increase of 9%.
After no claims this is obviously unexceptable!
I now have a spreadsheet to track these variations and the multiple quotes I am forced to get each year.
For the boat most were in line with or up to $100 more for the boat. However Be warned, do not waist your time with YOUI who sneakily start you off on an online quote and then immediately call you. It frustratingly took 40 minutes to get the quote in the end and it was 189% ($1200) more expensive with a higher excess. To say I was pissed off with this total waist of time is an understatement!
So this morning I had a very pleasant surprise Both my Ducati and my boat had a very good outcome. The Shannons renewal for the bike kept the details of the cover the same with an increase of 6%. After calling them to plead my case they dropped the price to 1% less than last year!
The Boat winner was RAC. I urge you to get a quote from them. They did make me call them after loosing the details of my online quote submission, however they ended up being a 10% reduction on my previous years premium with a $300 lower excess at $200.
RAC... Pat on the back...
Cover $55000 (agreed), excess $200, Cost $580 (Existing customer with the 200 series cruiser)
It will be interesting to see how much they try and gaff me when the renewal comes next year...
Moral of the story, track all your quotes for all your policies and change companies each year if necessary to keep the price down. It would be so much easier if they didn't change the agreed value without asking first and kept the price increases at or below CPI... I would just pay the renewals if that was the case.
PS: I have no affiliation whatsoever with the insurance industry and I have had the odd claim over the years and have never had a problem making a claim.
If that was a rant it is now over...

Round 9 - A Tale of Two Harleys
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2017-05-18 12:08Word is that Freo's recruiters are keeping a close eye on players name Ducati, Suzuki or Honda as it appears they'll be a lot more reliable and dependable than players recently brought into the side.
West Coast are still not playing their best footy but have a few players (Sheed, Duggan, Shepherd etc) starting to hit their straps and are facing an Essendon with their tales up. The key will be to shut down a potential future Brownlow medallist in Zac Merrett and making sure that Daniher doesn't hug any of our players (or kick too many goals). Lecca to kick a bag and West Coast to get up in this on.
Freo should win comfortably although this game last year provided much mirth when the Blues got up and the owen jokes unexpecedly continued on... for another 5 weeks. The biggest question is whether Kawasaki Bennell will be handing out his pearls of wisdom to his 'team mates' during the breaks.
Pies and the Hawks are playing off to see who gets the better draft pick. I'm going for the Pies simply because the Hawks gave up their first pick to the Saints for a bloke they can't even get on the park!

It's official I'm offended!
Submitted by sea-kem on Tue, 2017-05-16 12:11Yep I'm offended by the amount of ill informed and uneducated comments fucktards err people make on social media. Case in point being the massive Bass Grouper caught on the weekend. The amount of "why kill it if you can eat it" comments staggers me, I mean did you just make that up, where'd you get your info from.
And another classic "as bad as killing the Elephants in Africa" lol I actually took the time out to explain to one fuckwit that there's an actuall reason they cull the Elephants in Africa if he'd ever been bothered to get off his lazy arse and research it.
Oh and another "why not let it go, it's a shame to keep a fish that big" You fucking morons, I tried to explain to a couple of them why but similar comments went on and on so it's a pointless exercise.
As I tell my son's there's a very good supply naive idiots out there who seem to think they look good when they comment on something they have no idea about.
Don't get me started on the anti vaxxers
Tuesday rant done, over and out

Hard hats needed
Submitted by carnarvonite on Mon, 2017-05-15 18:39Wonder if anyone in Gero has 3 hard hats we can have a lend of this coming Saturday for the combined agency exercise.
We are bringing one of our rescue vessels down along with Kalbarri and Port Dennison joining with Gero and St Johns, Fisheries, WAPOL and Ses, to exercise with a rescue helicopter and search plane. For the helicopter drops and pickups we will need hardhats and do not think we will need them after the weekend.
Anyone who has some can contact me through here of drop them at Gero sea rescue headquarters Thank You

Lever drag reel, handle hard to turn when drag pressure on
Submitted by scano on Thu, 2017-05-11 10:40G'day fishwrecked crew
I purchased a jigging master power spell pe3 reel (black and gold colour) around 12 months ago. I have only used the reel on 3 occasions, and to be honest it has caught very minimal fish thus far. After a recent fishing trip I was placing my reels in my fishing cupboard, and I always lightly wash and lubricate my reels before putting them away. I noticed that the handle was a lot harder than usual to turn.
I own plenty of different reels of various makes and models and am fully aware of the need to take good care of my fishing equipment. I also understand that the drag adjustment preset knob, should only be adjusted whilst the reel is in free spool. I did remove the 4x hex head screws from the reel side plate and did a brief inspection of the gears and to see if there was anything obvious which could be an issue. The problem is only when the reel has the drag pushed up to "strike" and certainly not in free spool. The handle of the reel when it is in "strike" is very hard to turn.
I have not modified the reel in any way since purchase and as mentioned, it has done minimal work and has been regularly cleaned in the correct manner. I was wondering if you have seen instances such as this in the past? And if there was anything specifically I can do to fix the behaviour?

Busy time for VMR in Shark Bay
Submitted by carnarvonite on Fri, 2017-05-05 16:52Over the last 3 weeks we have had 7 tow in for various reasons.
the first was a rescue off Nanga involving towing Rescue 3 down, launching and retrieving the broken down vessel taking 6 1/2 hours in total.
Next one being an almost new 8 metre vessel that blew a hydraulic fitting on the steering gear and had to be towed back from Steep Point, same day there was an outboard catch fire to make life interesting for those involved.
2 days later I got the call of a boat over heating at the back of Faure Island, so drag Rescue3 over to Monkey Mia and launch there, tried to raise them on radio and phone with no result so head off down the west side and got us bogged in the shallows on the bottom of the island resulting in a 300 metre walk with the boat till we got to a deeper channel and work our way up the east side. We finally made phone contact and got a position, they were now on the NW corner of the island by travelling till the overheat alarm comes on, shut it down to cool then motor on and so on. Find they only have 27meg and no one covers it!!
Last Saturday we got a call from water police of an epirb going off up towards Turtle Bay, nice sloppy ride up there in 20-25 knot SE winds and an even worse ride home against it, took 6 hours but all back safely.
Yesterday heard Randall doing radio relay from Steep Point on a vessel broken down and needing to be towed back to Shelter Bay and I got the one at 1800 last evening to tow another one in with fuel problems from 10nm out, probably the easiest of all.
Have seen another 4-5 boats towed in by private vessels over this period of time so am at a loss to put a finger on what all the causes are

Sneaky buggers!
Submitted by Ashen on Fri, 2017-05-05 15:28Just a heads up..
The cops are now using roadwork zones as a target for speeding. I have seen a few roadworks this week with cops armed with speed guns pulling up cars doing over 40km. Today was a classic. Was travelling down Great Eastern Hwy towards Mundaring. Theres currently roadworks there and limit is 40 km p/h. I counted 4 cops with speed cameras on both sides of the roadworks, spaced out about 200-300m from each other! A few people got done, by the looks of it. Have seen the same thing in other areas.
Just a heads up for when you drive through a roadwork zone with 40km signs....be aware!

Round 7 - Mice or Men
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Thu, 2017-05-04 13:09Massive test for West Coast to win away from home at a ground that has been happy hunting for us of late against a side that has recaptured the kind of form that saw them take the league by storm in 2014. Wingard poses a big problem for us and shutting him down and winning the contested ball is the key to us winning.
We all know what happens when the media gets stuck into Jobe Watson so my prediction for the week is that he'll rack up 38+ touches and get the Bombers over the line at Subi.
Fair few crap games this week so might head down to Basso on Sat arvo grab some full strength cans fromt he Can Bar and watch the Black Ducks take on $ubi.
