Super Deep Yesterday!!
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 2013-12-17 12:58With both Sunday and Mondays forecast looking good and a gap between filming I didnt need much convincing. Sunday I took out good mate Scott (Soupster) and we got into a dozen plump offshore KG's!
Yesterday with the ban being lifted I thought a Super Deep fish was in order, good mate Craig (Fishcrazy) came out for a run and wow how was the conditions!!
I sounded around one of my spots and after finding bugger all I was about to go to another spot but thought I havnt checked this edge (the only spot I didnt cover) and whalla ..... fish!!
Craig asked me what fish do you reckon they are Ryan, I said I reckon Bass re the way they were sitting on the edge & colour etc. Craig drops down a super deep paternoster rig and hooks up straight away ....... I said leave it down for a double header and well the next fish to jump on had my JM rod fully loaded and Craig pulled up against the gunwhale!!
The end result was a big fight and leaving Craig very broken ha ha!
Craig with a 30kg & 20kg Bass groper double header!!
Craig had bagged out and I drove over that school again. Often when I get a hook up from a school that stirs up more action and by now it look like that school had blue eye and a mix!
I dropped my Super Deep 1kg jig and within seconds I was on!
End result was a solid Blue Eye Trevalla on jig!
Needing one more fish I re-drifted and hooked up again!
Ended up being a Hapuku on jig!
Was a great day on the water ............ good company cheers Craig
Gear used;
* Daiwa Megatwin electric reel
* Jigging Master Evolution Titanium 400 overhead rod
* Berkley whiplash Braid 80lb
* Super Deep 1kg Japanese Jig (Ryan)
* Oceanside Custom " Super Deep" bait rig (Craig)
* Oceanside Custom 48oz Lead Sinker (Craig)
* Esca water activated flashing light on jig

Cockburn Sound crab report
Submitted by out wide on Sun, 2013-12-15 22:10Hi Guys and Girls, just want to let you know the crab season started slowly for us this morning.
Nets in the water at 6am.
Started at Sulfur Bay 3 pulls crabs Zero
Back to Mengles 2 pulls crabs Zero
So over the side for a tow around and scraped up two just size blues
If we jumped in at 6am instead of drop netting probably would of got a few.
But looks a bit early ATM
Cheers

Metro Pelagics??
Submitted by craig_johns469 on Tue, 2013-12-10 12:55G'day All
I know the weekend weather hasn't been crash hot over the past few weeks, but I'm interested to hear of any further reports of Metro Macs or YFTs? Apart from Paul G's Mac report a few weeks ago and John F's and Beau's report of a few YFTs, nothing of late?
Maybe everyone is in the same boat as me (pardon the pun), where it be the weekend weather, work, or silly season commitments that are hampering any possible efforts to get out there?
I'll be getting out there as soon as possible to chase birds and hopefully be the one to report back, but bl00dy silly season commitments will again prevent me getting out this weekend... :(
Cheers
Craig

Northern beaches condition report
Submitted by Berin on Sun, 2013-12-08 11:34Walked from Club Capricorn to Jindalee this morning, water looking very good for tailor etc. Small patches of weed easy to avoid. Cople of very fishy looking places at Pipidinny and Sth of Yanchep Lagoon. Beach is fine for driving on.. No Terns and only a few gulls. Hardly anyone fishing, plenty of crazy 4wders though, as usual. Great stretch of beach, next time I am taking a lure rod for sure.

More crays
Submitted by silly on Fri, 2013-12-06 16:20Got a few more few this morning with Kasey and Alfred. Numbers have thinned out since the last dive but still plenty around. Whites have walked but there's a few stragglers around still. Viz was terrible with weed in most of the ledges. Next dive will be out rotto way I think!

Palm Beach Jetty.
Submitted by BoozeFishSnooze on Thu, 2013-12-05 23:48Hey guys, went down to palm beach jetty trying for some squid tonight about 7:45. Got down had a look first and seen a good 6-8 squid around the weed patches up close to the jetty but I tried every jig I had from about 2.5 down to a 1.0 or so and they would come up have a go at the jig then swim off. Very very flightly even with a bit of prawn on the barbs. Other than that Saw people landed what looked like herring and seen a decent couple of crabs just swimming around looks like it should be an alright season down at the jetty for crabs this year.

low tides in the Swan River
Submitted by rigpig on Thu, 2013-12-05 13:11The tides seem to be really low at the moment in the river and it is the first time I have seen the South Perth Ferry cause waves to break over the shallows mid river.. Be careful when boating and be sure to stay in the channels..

FNQ report
Submitted by Bunny on Sun, 2013-12-01 17:34I snuck out to chase a few Reds and Fingermark (Golden Snapper) with some mates last night. We couldn't raise a Live squid to save ourselves so had to be content to tempt the Fingermark into biting on frozen squid. We got 12 or 13 fish in total with a few Gold Spot Cod and Large Mouth Nannygai (Saddletail Snapper). We only got two Fingermark with the biggest going 73.5cm and Nikko got his PB at 62 cm. Nikko also got his PB Cobia at 103 cm so it was a good night for him!! The biggest Large Mouth was about 73 and biggest cod around 6 kilos.

Quick Hutt River Report
Submitted by Formerathlete on Wed, 2013-11-27 13:13Spent the weekend on the beach near the Hutt River mouth and found Tailor to 75cm on the bite from lunchtime until sundown. Taken on mulies and scalies and even got a couple on surf poppers after reading about them on FW. A first! After dark the beasties moved in. 10 or so runs before 11pm for zero return. Most were obviously very large sharks but a couple were probably Mulloway as they dropped the Tailor fillet baits undamaged.
Cheers
Taylor with a couple of decent Tailor

YFT fun
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Mon, 2013-11-25 22:43Hooked up with silly on Friday morning to head out chasing yellowfin tuna after catching a few reports here (cheers John) that they were around.
Launched from Mindarie around 6.30am and spent a while motoring to where we wanted to start our run. Dropped the lures in (one Laser Pro and two skirts) and trolled for about an hour without any action. The conditions were perfect but it made for quite uncomfortable trolling because it was hot and humid, there was only a light breeze and we were travelling with it so there was nothing to drop the temp down. Still better than being at work I spose.
Things all changed pretty quickly though with - 1 - 2 - 3 - rods suddenly bending over with drag ratchets going mental. I grabbed the first and Eugene grabbed another but my fish dropped the lure so I turbo wound the lure in and then grabbed the other rod and we both had some fun with fish reluctant to come to the surface. We ended up boating two yellowfin one around 820mm and the other around 550mm.
Kept going for a while finding plenty of huge bait schools but not finding any fish around them before we had another couple of hookups. I boated a stripey around 600mm and then a short while later Eugene dropped a fish before landing another yellowfin around the 800mm mark.
We thought we'd have a crack at dropping jigs on the flareups just off the bottom hoping for kings or sambos but after stuffing around for half an hour with a northerly that had picked up well beyond what we'd expected plus getting fed up with a recalcitrant sea anchor we decided to turn in. We could only sit on around 12 knots heading in because of the wind and chop so we dropped two skirts out the back just incase and ended up with another stripey around 660mm for our troubles.
All up it was a great day on the water - caught some quality fish, met a new FW member and ended up with a great nosh-up later that evening.
(Got some reasonable GoPro footage which I'll put up later too.)

Fremantle flathead
Submitted by surfhead on Mon, 2013-11-25 16:14Thought I would post a picture of a fish for a change instead of my usual rude remarks.
Checked out the Leeuwin / Swan yacht club area this morning for flathead activity.
Did not appear to be much activity there at all. Caught a couple of just sized ones which were thrown back in, and one decent sized one (pictured) which came in at 51cms.
Although not that long it was quite wide and weighed in at 0.9 kg.
All flatheads were lethargic on the bite and on the runs; it was only just possible to differentiate them from clumps on seaweed being dragged in. Maybe due to the cold water ?
Hopefully things will warm up a bit in the near future.
