Busso report
Submitted by Super peg on Sun, 2013-10-27 23:06Went out on the jetty for some squid following some reports that they are firing, seemed Everyman and his dog were out for a cast, bout half way and ended up with a feed of squid pretty easy.
They were a bit quiet for a while but after catching a herring and putting out a squid spike under balloon we caught our fill reasonably quick.
the pike were running hot around sunset and just after dark with around 30 being landed( plenty lost), all around the 35-40cm mark, had a blast catching them using small hard bodies and soft plastics.
kept some for bait so pretty happy all round. Good feed and a freezer full of bait for summer.
no chopper sadly but still good fun all round.
stayed at busso

Last two weeks
Submitted by Bunny on Sun, 2013-10-27 16:29I've been lucky enough to get some fishing done in the last couple of weeks. I don't have all the pics and some are off the Iphone but thought I would put a few pics and a quick report up now. I'm still getting into the hang of measuring fish for the record board so still missed a few that would have made it but there is always a next time.
The best day was when three of us bagged out on Fingermark (Golden Snapper) in about 40 minutes. Nothing huge with the biggest going 62 cm. Most fish were in the high 40s and 50s. We probably caught around 50 Fingermark for the day. The same day we hit a school of Bluefin Tuna and managed a few nice fish plus some cool bycatch like a 90 cm plus Grey Mackerel which I forgot to measure and a GT. We also got some nice Grass Sweetlip but the catch of the day for me was a 62 cm Black Spot Tusk Fish. I got him in 10 feet of water and was pretty lucky even with 50lb braid. Another trip involved more Fingermark but not as many. Biggest was 65cm. I managed a solid Spanish Mackerel on a popper which was cool and the boys nailed some Bluefin and Stickbaits and Poppers. Craig got a solid Bluefin probably over 9 kilos on a stickbait. All Tuna were released this day. I also managed a half a metre long Grass Sweetlip.
Another trip saw us get some quality Large Mouth Nannygai (Saddletail Seaperch) and Gold Spot Cod. Although the photos are not real good I just pipped Nikko's 83.5 cm fish with one at 84.5 cm. I'm sure he'll pip me soon enough. Both Bold Spot Cod were 84 cm. Another trip saw us get bugger all but we did have a session on some solid Jacks, the biggest went 51 cm so that was fun. We got three and about 4 Barra (all small). I'm waiting for the pics of the result of a double hook up of these.
I managed a 104 cm Barra on another trip to Tinaroo. This trip was frustrating as my brother lost one about 20 minutes into the trip that would have been well over 120 cm. we collectively lost 10 fish, nearly all would have been over a metre.
And now for the fish of the holidays. Moffy and I had a crack at throwing some poppers in the reef shallows before we went home from one of the reef trips. After a solid Red Bass checked Moffy's popper out I was smashed by a fish I figured was the Bass as we were actually tangled and were not looking at the lure simply sitting in the water. It went like a train and in 10 feet of water I could not believe the power or the fact that although I got wrapped around a bommie I still was lucky enough to get the fish out. Expecting a big Red Bass you should have seen the look on our face when a big Yellow Lipped Emperor finally came up. I've caught one or two of these before but it was a real treat and man they fight. We thought that was a fluke but a few casts later Moffy had one zero in on his popper, followed by another. They spooked for no hook-up but again the came up and this time he let the popper sit which let them affectively decide who was going to hit it. Sure enough he got smashed and had an almighty fight on 50lb braid trying to put the stops on it. We landed it again but could not hook anymore. At one stage Moffy had 5 under his popper which was brilliant to see so we just have to sort out how to tempt the strike a bit better. Anyway it was a top two weeks, hope to post some footage etc soon. Between the computer playing up and the kids I gotta go so sorry about the random order of pics.

Two Rocks LB Report 26/11/2013
Submitted by buschy on Sat, 2013-10-26 17:39Hi all,
Took the long drive up to Two Rocks this morning, up at 3am. Fished the stretch between Club Cap & The Lookout. Conditions were pretty much perfect. We arrived on sun-up with a light SSW breeze. Beaches were in pretty good nick, there was a little weed in the water but nothing to stop you getting a line in. Water clarity was very good, a little stirred up in patches particularly around some of the reef.
Made plenty of mistakes, which I can only put down to lack of sleep. Started the morning throwing poppers over the reef, instead of fishing the beach. After losing a couple of lures we moved up onto the beach and swapped to bait, but dropped ourselves in an unlikely spot. There was a nice spit another 100m up the beach with some deeper water around it. Sure enough the blokes fishing there pulled in a few decent tailor in quick succession, while we lucked out struggling to hold bottom in the surf.
Finally made the move to the other side of the spit. Within a few minutes my mate was on. He dropped his first two and landed the third - would have gone a little under 40cm, but nice and fat. I only had the one hit and was not paying attention, so missed it....
Things went dead soon after. No signs of any pickers, but with the rising tide I reckon that spot will be coming to life again about now....left about 9:30am with an empty esky, but at least my buddy got a feed! Definitely a great stretch of coast - I'll be heading back up there soon and won't be lazy when it comes to reading the beach haha!
Stopped by Mindarie on the way home as I had never been up there before. Also had a look around Jindalee. The water around Jindalee was pretty green and stirred up. A lot of weed on the beaches in Mindarie but also some big stretches of crystal clear water. Had a flick around and the sand whiting were on the bite...by that time though I couldn't be stuffed putting in the effort of catching enough for a feed!
Anyone thinking of hitting up Yanchep/Two Rocks beaches for a fish at the moment, go for it - conditions are good.
Cheers,
Buschy

New Zealand Angler-2 DAYS Fishing Trip in Thailand By BKKGUY
Submitted by bkkguy on Fri, 2013-10-25 20:36
When you come visit Thailand, you gonna fish the wild snakehead. It is one of the best fishing in asia. Althought pond fishing can be fun sometimes but wild fishing is more fun & challenging for those competitive anglers.
At time, we may have low bite rates due to unpredictable weather, strong winds and water clarity etc... Hey.... that what wild fishing is all about...That's why it is call fishing and not catching..haha !!!
Enjoys the 2 DAYS fising trip my New Zealand angler had with me.
1 DAY fun day at the barramundi luring pond.-

This weeks deep drop
Submitted by Chook1204 on Fri, 2013-10-25 12:11After months of waiting for the weather to be fine and lining up with a day available to sneak off of work Tuesday was the day, we headed out started in the 200s catching a few nanny but was real quiet moved spots a few times then got onto the nannys and got out quota, then it glassed off even more and we decided to test the 585 out in deeper water went to around 400-450 and decided to drop on what we thought were fish on sounder, after waiting forever to hit the bottom almost instantly we were on, then the windup started!, what popped up was amazing double header blue eye! We had never got these before and was a huge shock to all of us the other 2 boats were stunned! As you can imagine they all followed me back for the second drift to get on the spot we ended up with 8 blue eye and 3 bass groper between the 3 boats the last coming in on ours was a 36kg bass groper!! All blue eye were from 12kg -22kg absolute unreal day and now we have a spot for the serious fish in the deep deep water
a big thanks to harro off here for helping out with sounder settings I sat there and played with it heaps learning plenty in the deep water
also before I get jumped on I wasn't fishing in the west coast zone....

Ammo Jetty
Submitted by buschy on Thu, 2013-10-24 20:06Plenty of blue mackeral (slimey) with some herring mixed in at the moment. Had a great session down there a couple of days ago. Stay off the bottom and a little burley goes a long way.
Some of the herring are a decent size too.

Submitted by crezz on Wed, 2013-10-23 12:18so after catching a whiting yesterday while going for flatties I decided to go back today with the gekkabijin vibe and target a few whiting. first cast resulted in a 25ish cm whiting and within an hour I had landed 7 or 8 whiting all between 20-30cm. I also hooked but didn't land a flattie about 30ish cm. last pic is of yesterdays flattie.

manji/pembi for a week updated pic heavy
Submitted by crezz on Sun, 2013-10-20 12:21After breaking my wrist I will be off work for a few weeks so I have decided to spend a week in the south west chasing trout and reddies in some of my favourite and secret spots. I will keep you guys updated on how I go every now and then.
EDIT: a mate got this brown on a zman grub sunday morning at the back of his farm where the river flows through. Just getting me more keen to go down.
so i'm back from a week down south and let me tell you the trout were hard to come by. most of the rivers are still flowing heavily however the water colour has improved a lot.I started the trip with a short drive to one of my favourite fishing spots where the river is skinny and the snags are nearly everywhere. while sneaking around the trees I noticed a decent rainbow of about 45-50cm just sitting nose into the current and minding his own business. it took me about five or so mins to sneek into a position where I could get a cast at him. the lure landed perfectly and the big buck rainbow came over for a sniff but quickly decided that he wasn't hungry and swam upstream making a huge bow wave. I chased after it but could not find him in the extremely snaggy structures that were lining the shallow banks.
I walked further down the river to another of my favourite pools but could see that there was no one home. I went to the next pool and saw what looked like a large brown in a deep sandy section. casting was not going to be easy here as the snags and reeds that lined the bank made it difficult to fish. I eventually barged through some fallen brush and made my way through the water and down to a rock ledge. casting down river with a lure wasn't ideal but it would have to do. it took a few cast but managed to entice the trout to have a look and I saw the big white flash of its open mouth going for my offering. he missed, and with that he was spooked swimming quickly from one end of the pool to the other before he was gone. I fished the river a bit more but with no more sightings or strikes it was time to re locate.
I drove further south down to pemberton and fished the warren for a small time before it got dark. there were a few trout rising and im sure if I had my fly rod with me I would have had more success. I pinged my small diving lures at every rise along the warren for the next hour with the only hookup coming from an average size redfin. I de-hooked him got a quick pic and launched him up the bank far enough that he couldn't kick back down into the water.
redfin are tough buggers and I have seen them still kicking after a couple of hours of fishing up and down a river.
the next day the old man wanted to take the boat down the Donnelly river for a look and maybe catch a few herring, so we loaded the boat up and off we went. when we got there the river was low and indicating to us that the mouth was open. shore enough it was. on our way down I thought I saw a snake crossing the river but on closer inspection we found it was just a lizard cruising from one bank to another. not bad swimmers I must say.
when we got to the beach the wind was howling and the waves were huge. not ideal for chucking small squid baits around for herring. we stuck at it for about an hour with not even one bite so I cruised up and down the beach with a twisty for a good hour with no result. on the plus side we had the river and the beach all to our self for the day.
Wednesday started off with a bang as I hit the rainbow trail for a flick. three average redfin in the first three casts and there mates following them all the way to my feet. I personally hate redfin perch while im targeting trout however if im actually trying for a feed then there welcome to eat my lures.
I moved further up river to one of my secret hard to get to spots. with no track in you just have to pick your line through the bush and un-tangle your rod and lure from the trees every two seconds.
when I got there I was greeted with more small to medium redfin that were thrown as far into the bush as I could throw them. so after hooking so many redfin and loosing an expensive lure to a snag on the other side of the river it was time to move to the cascades.
the cascades is one of my favourite spots to fish even though its one of the most heavily fished areas. I have some good memories of some good fish landed in the late afternoons and every time I drive down that way I have to stop and have a flick here.
I started of great with my first cast, watching my braid to mono knot part and my lure soring through the air landing exactly where I wanted it to. lucky it was a floating pins minnow and I ran down to the rapids grabbing it before it was lost forever. so carefully re-tying it this time I was ready to go. I fished all the usual spots with no success and after half an hour of use the pins minnow was lost to a snag.
I wasn't keen on swimming today so ill go back and get it next time. I walked down river and tied on a small cranka diver. this was a good move because first cast along a log saw a good 40-45cm rainbow dart out and grab it. it was a solid fat fish and it made me and my 1-3lb gear work overtime. the luvius was screaming as the fish took off down river and regularly took to the air. I had no way of chasing him as I was stuck on the log in the middle of the river trying to play the fish around some snags and fighting him against the current, eventually I got him within netting range but the fish was still going. I managed to net the fish as it was in the air, he basically jumped into the net.
I left the fish in the net while I set the camera up. getting a selfie with the fish is not an easy task with a 10 second timer and a slippery and struggling rainbow so Im sorry for the extremely bad hands covering fish pics. it swam off strong to fight another day.
i was on my way to big brooke dam when i noticed an over grown side road that needed to be checked out. i was on my own and the road was getting a bit sloppy but i thought i could make it... well i didn't make it and spent the next hour or so digging and shoving branches under the tyres to get some traction and get the hell out of there. on the plus side i did find a new fishing spot. i eventually got to big brooke dam but got a call from my wife just as i was rigging a lure, i had to get back to perth so my trip was cut a bit short. all in all it was a great few days and really got me keen to get back down there as much as possible.
i heard on the vine that gummys are still being caught from the beaches and the odd salmon too. the rivers have dropped a lot since last time i was there and the current has slowed enough that you can swim a lure almost everywhere. all the smaller rivers and tributaries have cleared up but the bigger ones like the warren and Donnelly are still a little dirty.

Swan river lizards
Submitted by Chris fish on Fri, 2013-10-18 22:03 Today i got bored of sitting at home and with the weather looking not great for tailor i set myself up with a new rod and some 3lb line, 6lb fluro leader and a few lures for my little sustain for small stuff after ive been using it with 12-15lb up at steep or tailor around the place.
bought a new daiwa generation black 1-2kg rod to suit my 2500 and armed with a few SX40's and Zip Baits i hit the river to try my luck at getting a few flathead on the flats. This is my second time trying for swan river flattys so i think i did fairly well for a novice at it in water that olny just cleared up.
managed a nice fish 5th cast that went 32 then over the next 2 hours picked up another 5 fish with one 25ish cm fish and the rest 30-42cm.
caught and released 6 flattys off the flats all on a SX40 before getting it snagged and losing it and calling it quits for the day.

Offshore Angling Club of WA - October report
Submitted by Diesel80 on Fri, 2013-10-18 07:44Firstly apologies for the delayed report!
The Offshore Angling Club of WA held their “Go Anywhere” October field day on 5/6th of October 2013. Conditions were less than ideal for those that ventured north of Perth with seaweed in ready supply.
A group of four club members fished Hill River and for their efforts were rewarded with Tailor ranging from mid 40s to low 30s, the latter thick at times, many of them were returned for fattening up. Joe aka 'mulloway joe' lifted the bar with a stonking 17kg+ Mulloway making the battle with the weed worthwhile.
The club’s veteran members spread out somewhat, initially investigating the Wilbinga area but on finding it unfishable they retreated to metro waters where they managed nothing of note this time round. That’sfishing!
One club member ventured south to the capes area and was rewarded with a decent mixed bag of fish, though mostly smaller species.
Junior members that braved the less than ideal conditions were rewarded with a nice tailor and school mulloway. It was great to see them out fishing and getting involved.
The field day however belonged to Joe, though he may not tops the points and win the day, his 17+ kg mulloway was awarded the Fish of the Month honours for October. Two months in a row a nice mulloway has been the centrepiece of the clubs field day bounty.
A few pics can be seen here:
http://www.beachfishingwa.org.au/reports/2013/october2013.html
The club's November Field Day will be held mid-November, and i will try be less tardy with the report!. Until then, tight lines everybody.
Cheers,
D80

King of the Cape - Dunsborough 2013, Competition Summary
Submitted by Lamby on Mon, 2013-10-14 21:52The idea was brought up by Bluetonic some time ago to have a friendly comp between the Bunbury & Dunsborough crew which quickly grew legs forming KOTC a family focussed comp & cheers to Adam for letting me push the agenda through FW.
We had massive support from local businesses here; Pete @ Bosun Marine, Bux @ Ultimate Timber Flooring, Edge @ Eagle Bay Brewery & Damo @ Dunsborough Outdoor Sportz I can't thank you all enough. A special mention to Dave Allen from Xtreme Coolers many know him here, top bloke, sponsors the site & always goes out of his way to support fishing, as he did with the FW Exmouth Comp he donated some great prizes out of his own pocket that had the winner's eyes light up - cheers mate! Wind-on-Dave, put so much time & effort in to seeing this through, without him it was dead in the water.
There are so many others I need to thank & I know you guys are wanting me to shut up, apologies but those whom have been involved with grass roots competitions will know how hard it can be especially for us fisho's
We lost count of the actual total number of entrants but we had over 90, Seakem & DanT made the trip down with their families which was just awesome (thanks for the prize donation of a sounder Andy, the young bloke that won it was almost off like a flash to buy a tinny to put it on).
For those not aware, it was basically a comp of three formats with land based, inshore & offshore with junior & senior divisions, a comp within a comp! Each format had 7 species of fish to target, points were awarded to the longest fish (as with most picture comps these days) & two species in each awarded double points for difficulty. Prizes awarded in each format for winner & runner up but the King of the Cape was decided by the person with the most points overall, people in tinny's were battling it out with big boats & land based fisho's putting in the long night hours!
It was a two day comp, with day one cold & windy (pretty much how it has been for what feels like eternity down here minus the rain). The young members who have been posting had a cracking start in the juniors offshore section braving the weather & cleaning up on KG's, Pinky's & having a crack at the biggest squid prize which was hard earned in the milky water by them with a 32cm hood. When it's clear 35 - 40 cm hoods have been no issue but not many could get past 28cm, I believe the member sand_whiting pipped his cousin by 1cm to win the egi combo (check out their pics)
In the senior's not many could get wide in the offshore category so the inshore & landbased sections got a big jump on them, in saying that some offshore teams made a very wise tactical decision to chase the pinkies.
Two absolute ball tearers by one of the competitors, the one in his left hand going 97cm Richie & his mate fishing the inshore category made the bold move of launching the tinny into some washing machine water for big bay sambo's, he landed on day one two horses (one going 1.3m) which was in the double point territory & well deserved.
It was a wise decision allowing them day 2 to target the other species in the inshore section
Day two was a pearler, the swell was up but those in the offshore section could let loose. DanT followed me out for the day, my spots were looking pretty quiet for the most part which was an absolute bugger & considering I had not fished that way for months due to weather. The boys did well on the jigs & one spot was firing for them with sambo's on top & dhuies / pinks underneath, but Habanero & myself got bricked by two good size dhuies on arrival heading for an infamous ledge. Habanero had a line roller ping after turning the fish perfectly moments shy of safety & I had that tell tale first slow diesel engine run for cover with not much hope on pe2 going just above the leader, we rigged with artificials again for a rinse & repeat on the next drift *ping* *ping* It certainly put the spooks into them (sorry Dan) but we managed some small dhues & pinky's whilst having fun speed jigging the sambo's.
One of my deckies with a 68cm dhuie to bait Whilst out there I could keep tab of the action with pic updates rolling in, a young girl Chanel & her Father were on fire fishing the inshore section. They didn't have a bulk of fish coming over the side but targeted the bigger models in the species with ease. She was in a a huge duel with the young boys on here for the junior overall & likewise for her Dad with the senior. Local bloke Toby & his team played a brilliant tactical comp & tried to break away early on day two knocking off some of the solid efforts & leads from the day one efforts with him looking to wrap up the the overall.
Chasing down the double pointers set the pace but some couldn't back it up with the other species, Toby with a cracker of a dhuie, one of a pigeon pair I believe
Busso boys Clint & Ray (members here) the SW Ferals were hanging in there, as was other Busso lad Patto & his team. Nizzy from the Seaquest Team was also having a blinder but was getting pipped by some big fish.
Clint with biggest dhu of the day
Backing it up with a double header of pinks
He came close landing this Breaksea Cod with not all that many caught on the day but had to settle for 2nd place in Offshore, well done mate Seakem's young lad did very well also in the junior offshore section coming in at 2nd place & Max from the young guns on here smashing it!
The junior division belonged to Chanel becoming 'Princess of the Cape', well done to her
It was a nail biting finish & despite his gallant efforts in Offshore, Toby got done by the hard working Richie toiling away quietly inshore accumulating points with other species on the second day after setting himself a platform to work off on that first day.
Looking forward to KOTC 2014, cheers for sticking it out to read
Great to see some pics up, I just grabbed a small selection on the ones sent through on the phone. Some of these pics have non members, any issues from them or others & I will be happy to remove

Whiting
Submitted by jarrid on Mon, 2013-10-14 20:30Brother (rocktron) and I had a chance for a quick fish a couple of days ago. Tried for squid early but didn't get any so went and had a look for some whiting. Found a spot holding some and whilst they weren't big we were getting one every drop or two. We ended up getting sixteen which was enough and the weather was a bit rough so we headed back in to Carnac to clean them.
had a bit of a play with some seals in there. We tried to spin up a herring to feed the seals and kind of just kept going as the wind had died right off. We decided to have a final crack at some more fish and long story short, ended up with five KGs. Smallest went 37, biggest went 46 and all were delicious.
P.s. was pretty happy with the haul until I saw the other thread loaded with KGs

Sunday - Two rocks
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2013-10-14 10:30Hit up Two rocks on Sunday
Weather forecast was average, but none the less, last chance to get out before the ban
Not a good sign when you rock up at the ramp at 9am and there are more boats coming back in than heading out. But we decided to try fish when the wind changed from east to South.
Super low tide made launching a bit of fun, and even more fun passing through the 3 mile.
I said to Scano we would hit up a couple marks i had not been on for ages, it wasnt as far out and we would see what the wind was going to do. Ended up being a good idea.
Sounded around for a a couple minutes and found a few fish.
Baited up, turned the boat around and punched back into the easterly (not a lot of fun), out with the sea anchor and down we went for the first drift
Had not been 2 minutes before Scano loaded up... His call was a Sting ray (Given we had caught a couple out there in the past). He gave it curry Palming the spool on the Saltiga S-Extreme on the combi Jerk.... 2 minutes later up popped this girl! big suprise, neither of us called a dhu
Estimated Weight 12-13 kilo
Good start so turned around and lined up the 2nd drift. Not 2 minutes again and Scano loaded up again &!%^*^$ This time loaded up big time. We called it for another big dhu and a few minutes later up came Scano's biggest dhu to date! a few dicey moments with it tangled in the sea anchor but in he came.
Weight around 16 kilo.
Not a bad start, 2 horse Dhu's in 2 drifts.
I was doing well as well, I'd landed 2 Seargent bakers for bait......
Decided one more drift was in order to see if anything different was down there.
3rd drift, both Scano and I hooked up. Not as big and we knew they were dhu's so they came up nice and slow. Both identical fish. One actually had a mega bait hook in its mouth, and on the previous drift Scano said he thought he felt his hook slip on the big boy he caught, but when it came up his bottom hook was missing which was a megabait. He had a double header, and luckily the smaller one broke off.
Scano's 3rd dhu in 3 drifts.
We moved on from this spot, as it was only holding dhu's.
Ended the day with 8 or 9 Dhu's all well over size except 1 or 2 from memory, 2 kept, a few BB's, 1 kept, 1 Harlequin and a few other bits and pieces.
True to the word, the worse the conditions the better the fishing! Sorry pic's are not the best, conditions didnt make it easy!

Baitless trip
Submitted by ctan1968 on Sun, 2013-10-13 16:46I finally got motivated to try a catch/release trip with no bait, just armed with a light jigging outfit and another rod for a release weight. Late solo start didn' t see me to the spot until midday. Some lumps were loaded and I practiced all the different styles I have read so much about.
Only had an 80g Fanky, a pirate with rusty hooks and some McCarthy softies. (yes I was pretty half arsed as bait fishing has always been my choice) Tried the plastics and Fanky in a couple of spots but only the fanky fired. Maybe I didnt spend enough time with the SP as the wind was kicking up from the south.
All dhuies caught were released.
Great time had in the 2.5 hrs of fishing, and as they say, no dirty bait stains in the boat and no fish cleaning.

Another family trip to Exmouth...
Submitted by Wannafish on Fri, 2013-10-11 14:01Due to the wet and cold weather the South West has had (and is still having), we decided to load up the car and boat and have the first week of the school holidays in Exmouth... The weather the whole time was between 28 - 34, and although the wind was up at times, we managed to get out at Tantabiddi a couple of times, and the Bay of Rest when the wind was blowing. The rest of the time we mucked around on the gulf beaches, swam in the caravan park pool, explored the west side, etc.
On the fishing side of things, I speared a few Tuskies and Trout in the gulf, and we caught some good Rankin, Spangleds, etc on the west side, but sharks and possibly big cod were a problem. I lost 2 lures with good Macks attached due to the sharks, before managing to land one.
Attached are a few photos....

Back from the Montes.. Pic Heavy
Submitted by outdoinit on Thu, 2013-10-10 19:21Hi All, Yeah we had a great trip and weather was good for all but one day, (that day we explored in and around the islands and done a bit of free diving. (we got 2 mangrove jacks free diving and the biggest was 5.5kg, Stonker, but forgot pics.. Duh)
All the guys caught good fish and all had a ball, but I was lucky enough to end up with the 3 biggest fish of the trip..
1, Mackie (Nearly got spooled by him and had to chase him around in the boat) I could not lift it, hence why I am sitting on the Gunnels, we reckon it was 40kg+ (took 2 of us to lift it out of the water..) Released
2, Was a good Coral trout that went 77cm, all on soft plastic.. Yeah Baby.. LOL
3, Was a Brassy trevally that was too heavy for our scales and too long for our stickers (We reckon approx 1050mm), I caught it out of the Tinny and on my little overhead bait caster rod, yes the one I usually use for squid.. ;-D, also had to chase it down so I didn’t get spooled.. No Pics of that one as I didn’t take the bloody Camera out.. Released
Mind you the young blokes Long nose Emperor went 89cm so I suppose that takes 3rd spot... (That will get a bite for sure) LOL
I didn’t catch any Reds though, but everyone else did.. Never mind..
As for trip info the basics were - 530kms done in big boat with the total fuel used of 630 ltrs..
In the Dingy we used a total of 40 ltrs and also ran a 2 kva gennie 24/7 which also used approx 40 ltrs..
As for that poor coral trout being smashed by sharks, unfortunately that was one of many fish that got smashed, the sharks were just ridiculous, you would find a spot on the sounder and drop over and boat a couple of fish then drop over any would not get them 2 feet of the bottom before the sharks would smash them.. :-( Overall rating for the Montes, (7 1/2 out of 10) IMO, it was good to go there spend a week doing what we done but would I go back.. Mmmm NO, Abrolhos for me.. ;-)
Some trip pics just from our boat below..

Manji/Pemby area update
Submitted by bardzman on Tue, 2013-10-08 14:07Hi all,
Just spent 4 days in the manji/pemby area searching for trout and reddies, so I thought id better put up a bit of info for anyone heading down their. First up the rivers are flowing fast - very fast lures were getting ripped along the rivers at an amazing speed, making it difficult to fish. The rivers are right up and most are hard to get to, river banks that were used to fish from are not existant. Ground conditions are VERY soft under foot making just getting to the spots interesting. Mozzies are about in force and snakes are starting to venture out. Offroad/gravel roads are water logged so take care. We fished the Walggarup, warren, lefroy, donnelly and smith brook for not much luck we even loaded the kids and mrs' s and fished big brook dam for zilch. My friends who we stayed with took me to some private dams ( they got permission as they have property aswell ) still no good. we did manage a few reddies and trout for the 4 days....bit dissapointing really. But the areas we visited, the scenery and good freinds made it all worth while.
Everyone we spoke to said, and I quote " give it a month and the fishing will go off " also... the locals reckon it should be a bumper marron season.
Hope this helps any heading down that way...iv just got to get time off in 4 weeks.
Thanks all Bardzman

Port Kennedy
Submitted by BoozeFishSnooze on Sat, 2013-10-05 02:20Hey guys, went down to Port Kennedy friday arvo to try flicking some soft plastics for the first time, using a zman grub 2" in bloodworm I hooked up to my first fish on a lure.(not including some small squid on jigs) Before this I was sort of thinking catching fish on lures is a myth even though seeing people get fish on lures in the past. Other than the flatty I hooked(released and swam off strong after the picture) I got some trumpeter with some of them being not even 2.5 times the size of my plastic (often foul hooked but all released and swam away healthy)

Shark bay Denham jetty
Submitted by brucedog1 on Fri, 2013-10-04 22:33Just been camping up shark bay, awesome place if you havnt been yet. If you are planning on tripping up that way can recomend giving the jetty ago just after dark for pinkies. Great for the kids and size pushing mid 40s to 50s. Would have landed 12 to 15 fish tonight and could have kept at least 2.
Its probably no secret but handy to know if you want to have some fun with the kids.
Bait was yellow fin whiting from the local tackle / servo shop.
Cheers
