Tailor - soak or wind?

When your Tailor fishing what is your preferred method?

Do you use a sinker with gangs and soak your mulie?

Or

Do you use gangs without a sinker and slowly wind it in like a lure?

Which works better?

Patching small holes in fibreglass - any advice please

Took the old voyager out for about half a day and on returning I noticed a shit load of water come out the bung hole when I undid it after retrieving at the ramp. Stopped for some beers and when walking back I saw 2 jets of water about 5mm thick pissing out from underneath the boat more towards the front of the boat . Luckily it was parked at an angle with the bow lower than the stern otherwise I wouldnt have seen the leaks. Holes are about 10cm apart. Have bought 1m2 of fibreglass mat (225g chopped strand mat) a tin of polyester resin and catalyst dropper bottle from whitworths. Was thinking I should put a small patch separately on each hole then a large patch to cover both holes. Never done apatch job on fibreglass and abit worried about the patch basically ripping off when Im going flat out. Should I cut the patches in a round pattern or with a sharp point in the direction the boat goes to try to reduce the water drag  any tips suggestions gratefully accepted.

ASI Groyne, Woodman Point

Anyone having any luck at the ASI groyne or the woodman point rocks. If so what have u been catching?
Cheers

Sashimi - what have you tried the True Japanese way

Having been converted to Sashimi years ago I have tried heaps of seafood as sashimi.

IMO in order the best is -

Scallops - sliced thin

Prawn - clean and cut into cubes

Squid - cleaned body, sliced into very thin rings

Tuna - so far YFT and SBFT is the only quality tuna I have tried. Would love to see what the fus is about Atlantic bluefin, but jikes it is pricy

Coral trout - sensational white flesh raw.

Anyone tried anything else exotic they can recommend. Have tried most fish caught of WA and some are good, others, well - taste better cooked.

Marlin Fishing

Hi All

I am off to ningaloo/exmouth in september and im chasing as much info and insight into trying to catch my first marlin from my boat.

I am a noob when it comes to trolling as we havnt really done it before.

I will be taking a couple of outfits set up for just trolling for macks and hopefully a marlin. I already have a couple Tyrnos 30s so will be spooling them with mono Not sure weather to go 30lb or 50lb though? Do i have half a chance if a marlin does decide to take the lure on these reels or do i need to run 50w reels?

After reading most topics about it in the search function i will be dropping into Oceanside to get some richter soft oscars and soft grassys.

Can any one help me with what i will need? And some advice to a noob to help catch our first marlin

Cheers Jayce

Saturday morning

Hi everyone. In Saturday morning I am planning to do a bit of tailor fishing with lures and mulies at trigg but when I looked at the swell for trigg I thought there was no chance of catching a tailor. So does anybody know a good beach for tailor fishing for Saturday?

Squid Tentacles

So who here eats the squid tentacles?

Recently i've taken some mates out to get a feed but when it came time to clean them they either wanted to keep the tentacles for bait or throw them away

If you coat and fry them up I reckon they can be tastier than the rings

How do you keep your feet warm in winter?

Thinking of heading out in the boat tomorrow but I havent really fished in winter before. Ive got plenty of warm clothing but i usually get around in the boat barefoot. With it being in the low 0's the next few days im a bit worried im going to be getting around on a couple of ice blocks! Has anyone got any tricks to keep your feet warm especially with getting a bit wet launching and retrieving?

Land based pinkies

Exmouth Sharks!!

G'day all,

I have just come back from a 10 day fishing trip at Exmouth and I now know how bad the shark problem is up there. I found some pretty good ground not too far from Tantas and decided to give it a drop. Out of our total hook ups I'd say only approximately 15-20% were landed and at some stages we could not get any fish up at all. If the sharks weren't there we would have bagged out in no time. I spoke to some of the locals and they mentioned there's talk of perhaps attempting to thin out the numbers however, they said it would cause conflict with the greenies and militant conservationists.

More often than not fisho's now have to sacrifice more fish to sharks in the hope of landing a couple to get a feed. We tried moving spots multiple times but still the sharks kept taking our catch. In the 10 days we were there we would have lost 30-40 quality demersal species (Prob reds, spango's, chinamon, Robbos sea bream etc) and that must have an effect on the sustainability of fish stocks especially if everyone else is doing the same thing.

I believe some action needs to be considered before it starts to put people off visiting there for fishing trips (If it hasn't already). Why can't a commercial fishing boat start fishing there and sell it to fish n chip shops? They'd clean up!! Haha! It's a tricky problem because how many do you cull to confidently say it's enough?

Would be interesting to know your thoughts on this subject and if anyone else has been horrifically sharked like we just have.

Cheers

Ben

Winter tailor

Just looking at all the posts in tailor fishing over the past month or so and everyone is catching their pb tailor on lures. I was down at trigg last Sunday morning and everyone was using bait and not even a bite! So is it lures or bait for winter beach fishing for tailor? If it's lures are just normal stick baits all right?
