CAUGHT ON FILM
Submitted by Jody on Tue, 2014-06-17 17:59Bloody film stars....... will never hear the end of this
New film for ANSA and RFW for the demersal tagging program.
Enough footage in there to do a whole series
I think there were 21 Dhu tagged, 1 kept plus a couple of Snapper and topped up with Baldies for the bag.
Suprise catch of the day was a KG on jig in 40m.

Transom Rerating (or possible modificiation)- anyone had any experience?
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Tue, 2014-06-17 09:11Morning all
Does anyone have an experience/ advice with getting their transom rerated?
I have an 06 Yalta 555 and it is rated to 150hp/ 220kg, but in order to fit a yam 150 I want it would need to be rerated to approx 235-240kg.
I am aware there is a formula that is used to do this, but I would like to get it done properly through someone reputable to get the required revised compliance plate for insurance/ piece of mind etc…
I live in Carnarvon and have read that it can be done by remote if the required measurements stack up? If not, can anyone recommend anywhere in Perth that does this?
If it comes to it, I would consider getting the transom reinforced if its not silly money. Obviously, the design of the transom itself would determine the cost but if anyone has done this/ heard of this done etc and knows of a ballpark $ figure, that would help a lot before I start making calls. Also, any recommendations on this would be great. Im hoping to get the new Yam fitted by Chivers, not sure if they offer this but will also be asking there later today.
Ive already been down the different motor path (zuk, honda etc) and am pretty set on the (heavier) 4 stroke. I know the new Mercs are way lighter than the rest, but also want to stay away from them
Cheers, any advice would be great,
Anthony

Deep drop sounder shots
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2014-06-16 11:28Had our first real crack out deep dropping in my boat off Metro waters over the weekend. Weather was pretty good, but didn't manage to find much except the usual green eyed sharks.
Later in the day we found a ledge that dropped 30 or so meters but being late in the day didn't get much time to look over it.
I took this photo which was on top of the ledge before it dropped down to 320m.
Anyone able to tell me what they think?
Thanks

Avoid Club Marine for boat trailer insurance
Submitted by mullinz on Mon, 2014-06-16 10:01My boat trailer was damaged on the weekend and witnessed by 2 other people who both left their details. Now Club Marine is stating that I have to pay my $500 excess and I only receive this back if they are able to recover the money from the offender. That now means that instead of fixing myself I need to decide whether I want to risk paying $500 to have someone else fix the damage and hope I can get my money back. I'll be changing my policy immediately and suggest others avoid club marine as well.

Any opinions on Lowrance-Elite-7-Fishfinder/Chartplotter-Combo
Submitted by Swompa on Mon, 2014-06-16 08:28Has anyone got first hand experience with one of these units? My boat has a small Hummingbird unit on it which is just a sounder / GPS (no plotter or waypoint ability) and I am looking at getting a few more smarter bits onboard.

Boat ramp car park damage witness
Submitted by mullinz on Sun, 2014-06-15 19:00Came back from a great days fishing to find the rear end of my 12 month old EZ Loader trailer had been smashed into. Luckily there was a note on my windscreen from a very nice witness saying they saw a guy hit the trailer get out look at the damage on my trailer looked at his trailer saw no damage laughed got back in his car and moved to another spot.
Now if I report it to the police and have the witness sign a stat dec can I claim it on my boat insurance without having to pay an excess?? Really annoying!!! I would of just fixed it myself and asked for him to chip in for the parts if he'd left a note. Now I'll let the insurance company deal with it and hopefully he gets stung with a big bill!

Gt combo
Submitted by ando68 on Sun, 2014-06-15 15:06Have booked a charter for the Monties in November , looking at putting together a gt combo for some poping/ stick baiting , a Samuri pop10 with a Catalina 6500h loaded with 80 lb braid. I know it's probably not everybody's favorite choice, but am I going in the right direction Is it overkill ? Or would 60 lb be enough. Cheers Simon

Gnaraloo 2014
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2014-06-15 11:56 I wasn't going to bother putting up a report as the weather we had up there was less than ordinary, but I felt I owe this to the guys who have given me some good feed back over the last few weeks. It was also good to meet Nick off the site up there and would have loved to shown him what the deeper water has to offer. The only really good session we had was on the Friday arvo we got in there where we landed 4 good Rankins in a bout half an hour. The rest of the trip it blew it's guts out and was only able to fish in close, so all my good marks were un reachable. So we camped up at the Eddagee roadside stop off which will be the order of the day in future trips (just don't use the toilets lol)
Few beers and a bbq always gets the pending excitement of the trip going
We headed south about 20k's in close where we found reasonable ground with plenty of big Red throat, Spanglies and this ripper of an Estaury cod I estimated at around 8-9kg once again the photos don't do em justice
We got checked out by fisheries that night, and I had to mention this because on of them was a real honey :P so one highlight lol. The last time we got out we nailed another big Estuary, couple of Rankins and this Cobia which put up a good show on light gear.
I also hooked into this bad boy which spooled half of my Stella 10k before I could stop and turn him around, I must admit it was good fun pushing that outfit to the limit, he was a good 5'
This is what I love doing most when heading out of the bay, we did hook one huge Spaniard but lost him boatside (grrrr deckie)

I do love the place and will be back up there bigger and better next year, can't complain as we'd had 3 awesome previous trips. On a side not the tracks are in the best condition I've ever seen them up there and was able to sit on an average 60kmh the last 20k's in. Those that have been there will know that's pretty good.

Yamaha Marine Insurance
Submitted by Quobbarockhopper on Sun, 2014-06-15 08:27New yammis a week or so away... does anyone use the Yamaha Marine Insurance? If so, how is it price wise and have you had to make a claim- how did it go?
Havent rang of a quote yet, but by looking at the level it appears to give in the PDS, am guessing it will be prettty pricey...
