G'day all, I'm thinking a giving my Sabre a face lift but how easy will it be to remove the old epoxy on the butt wrap and the runners?

Cheers

Dawsville Divers

The big swell and maybe a little bit of greed has cost me. I cant say that I have killed it as far as crays go this season but have recently started to get a few. Because the season is due to close I just wanted a few more crays to see me through. So the worst thing you can do when you are on a good thing is change. I decided to put the pots in a different area in big swells.

I now have a pot stuck 3kms from the mouth of the Dawsville cut.

If there is anyone who can help get the pot out by Monday 30th (before season close) Please let me know. I will pick them up and take them out and provide the bevies.

Thanks

Reviving big demersals

You may have seen my post on other area re the the big cod we have unfortunately been unable to get back down. Just a mad thought came to mind, has anyone ever tried reviving them like a marlin? I know their anatomy is different re swim bladder etc but could it work if you popped the bladder and got them to try kick back down??

Best place to buy marine ply

Hey Fw, just wondering were the best place to buy marine ply NOR.Cheerz BRG

The first of the Titans

I was going to wait until both rods were built but mine will take a while so here is the first.

A basic build based on my good mates requests and I really like the end result. The open thread work exposes the Carbon weave and it has come up great.

The blank is the 5'6" ML and the total build weight comes in at 211 grams or around 7.4 ounces. The rod is rated to 45lb so a similar class to the JM Three Kings Special and Fallings UL rods. I'm impressed with the light weight of this rod and mine will be much lighter again. For one I'll be using the new Fuji Torzite guides.

Fuji Alconite K guides and a SIC tip, Fuji VSS size 17 seat with night camo grips and Fuji rubber butt cap.

I hope my mate doesn't see this post before he gets this as it's a birthday present.

Fishing Lombok

 Hi Guys,

I am planning on going to Lombok for the first week of August with a couple of mates. We are going to do the freedive level one course at gili t for two days, but have a few more days on the island, and just wondering if anybody has been fishing from lombok, would love to stretch out the arms after we stretch our lungs.

I had a look a the search function for not really much info to come out of it.

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Heli Barra Fishing

I have never been barra fishing before and am super keen to do it.

Noticed that you can do heli fishing out of Kununurra at a price and that the best fishing seems to be the run off around march to May. What would the fishing be like now that it is cooler? I imagine I am better waiting off till summer/autumn again.

Any thoughts?

Friday Funnys

Anyone tried Strada Trakka 160 lures

Coral trout colour change

I was taking some photos of a trout just off the beach in the bay at coral bay.I noticed it was changing colour as it changed its surroundings. When it was over weed it would go blotchy and look completely different.I did not get any decent pics of it when really blotchy but these pics still show the difference

CATCH OF A LIFETIME!!!

Okay I know that this story is going to sound unbelievable to some but i guarantee this is no word of a lie!!

On Tuesday night given the good weather i decided to launch the boat after work and go for a fish in Cockburn Sound.

When i arrived at the location that i wanted to fish, the sun had just gone down and it was starting to get dark. I anchored up and threw a few handfuls of diced up mulies out the back of the boat for a bit of berley.

I had one rod already rigged up with some gangs so i threw an unweighted mulie on there and cast that out the back and left the rod in the rod holder. As it was getting dark i mounted an anchor light in the other rod holder.

While the mulie sat out the back of the boat i rigged up my other rod (new spin combo being used for second time only) Once rigged up i baited the hooks with a whole unweighted squid and cast it out the side of the boat leaving the rod lying down accross the side of the boat as the 2 rod holders were occupied.

I left this rod while i grabbed my other rod out of the rod holder and could feel there was no weight on the line so i began to reel it in. As i was doing so, from right underneath me my other rod was ripped out of the boat and in to the water.

As you can imagine i was absolutely furious as this was a brand new combo. I made a scene and plenty of curse words were screamed! fortunately nobody was around to hear me carrying on.

I tried to calm myself down by continuing to fish with my other combo. After having one of the hooks on my gangs straightened slightly by a hit i decided to change rig and continue fishing.

After over an hour of continuing to fish on the same spot, As i was retrieving my bait, I hooked a dead weight roughly half way through the retrieve. At first i thought i must have snagged a large piece of weed.

When i got my rig to the boat i realised i had snagged some fishing line. When i got the line in to the boat i recognised that it was the line from my rod that had been pulled overboard instantly. I frantically untwisted the line from my hook! What was more amazing was that i could feel that whatever had taken my line was still on the other end! I then managed to retrieve my rod from the water while holding the line with my spare hand. Once I got the rod in to the boat i proceeded to reel the fish in to find a lovely 70cm Pink on the other end!!!

I could not believe my luck!! This trip turned from one of the most dissapointing to one of the most memorable in the space of about a minute!!

If anybody has every had a similar experience i would love to hear it!

Receipts that fade - is it a ploy to make warranty claims hard?

I picked up a Stradic 5000 FJ a year ago and earlier this week sent it back under warranty. The receipt was in the reel box and kept in my wardrobe at home. Yet after only 12 months the receipt had faded so much it was pretty hard to read. What happens if I need to get it fixed under warranty in another year, the receipt might be completely blank by then!

Almost seems like a ploy to stop warranty claims.

I also got a gift voucher from the same store and within a year it was blank and unable to be read. The store wasn't going to accept the voucher until they realised it was issued by a different store in the same chain.

Any else having the same issue?

Any tricks to get the receipt to last longer? Just photocopy it as soon as you get home?

Have taken a photocopy of my Stradic receipt now but it is already to late (too faded that the copier doesn't pick up the writing).

DON'T

When you hook onto a shark, and it won't bite you off and you can break it off, don't put the rod in the holder with a locked up drag while you reach for a knife to cut the leader.

They tend to dive back under the boat and graphite only flexes so far ........................................................................................

Red Emporer and Coral Trout

 Hi all.

heading up to Shark Bay for the yearly boys fishing trip. I would love some advice and general locations, depth etc, to target reds and trout. We have caught a couple in years gone by but they have always been a bycatch as the trouts have been taken whilst trolling for Macks and the reds while Bottom baiting for Pinks. Any and all help is appreciated

Deep Drop Mandurah 1st attempt-fail.

 G'day all,

Well after lots of planning, searching deep drop on here, making rigs (thanks Oceanside) the stars finally alligned yesterday with the outlook looking good and the brother in law and I having the day off.

The plan was to leave Mandurah Marina at 6:30 make our way out to the 40m mark and if it looked good enough continue on wider. So apart from a bit of swell the ENE wind was fine out there, so we decided to give it a crack. With no marks to go on this was an exploration and have a go trip. Took some GPS co ords off the navionics app in an area that I thought looked reasonable the app said the contour lines would be in the 260/280m range but was a bit out, more like 320m. So we slowed right down (4 knots for my set up, 587 & tm260) which produced a pretty good picture. I had the same problem as another guy on here regards using high TVG cluttering up the screen, so left it on medium. Any way long story short we done a lot of sounding but didn't come across any real good looking drop offs in the area we were searching. a couple of times we thought we came across what looked to be fish, set a drift up (which is pretty tricky in those depths) for the total of one Nannygai, which is dinner tonight.

So all in all I'm glad to finally get out there and have a go. It's a bloody long way out there and doing it without electrics is hard but do able. We fished from 280m-320m. Might have to beg, borrow or steal some spots haha. Not likely I know. We stopped at a few closer spots on the way home but could only manage an undersize Dhu & Pinky.

Cheers for reading.

Chris.

Gnaraloo marine park zones

Heading to Gnarloo and found the exclusion zone co-ordinates but they are diff than what I can enter into my GPS E 113.29.3500 somehow converts to N 113 17.400 WTF how can that be right anyone advise the correct conversion?

Was using http://www.gpscoordinates.eu/convert-gps-coordinates.php to do the conversion.

Ultimately chasing Gnaraloo bay 3 mile & turtles exclusion zone GPS co-ordinates if anyone has them.

Have a 6.25 Fiberglass Cruise craft but am being advised that with only 2 guys it'll be too difficult to retrieve from the beach so have a 13' tinnie as an alternative.
Thoughts on that?

Richter plugs 1 oz

Worth it this weekend?

Hey All,

So, after my Snapper success a few weeks back I've been unable to get back out on the boat with the weather that's been coming through.

Looking at seabreeze forecast for Saturday it looks like the wind will have dropped off a bit, but BOM says that the swell will be up. I'm pretty new to boating so am still trying to get to grips with when to go out. Is it worth a trip out this Sat or will it be bad out there?

I launch from Woodman point, can go fishing around in the Sound or head out a bit further, weather permitting. I've got a 24ft with 200 hp outboard.

I suppose the question is - is the weather good enough for me to head somewhere that I will get a catch of something (happy to head out squidding, if that's the best option - just want to put something on the dinner table sat night!).

Thanks!

new product for rock fisherman

not sure if this has popped up before on the forum but thought id post a link to rocksteady rod holder looks like a great idea to save laying rods/reels down on the rocks and getting scratched and dings and tripping over them also pretty sure its an Aussie invention to http://www.rocksteadyrodholder.com/

Stradic vs Sustain, opinions?

What's everyone's opinion? Is the sustain worth the extra money or not. Both look like excellent reels, would be good to hear some feedback from fellow fishos. Cheers

Shift function on furuno sounder?

Might seem like a silly question,

But I've noticed people talking about it on here and also seen people's sounder pics of when they use the shift function on their furuno and have the depth set to say the bottom 20m of the water column or the bottom 40m

Question is how do you do this? Ive had a play around with mine but cant suss it out

im sure its really easy if someone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction

thanks alot
