Ningaloo trout and baldies back on the menu for spearos?

I’m not sure how to decipher this yet, but it looks like the no cod or wrasse rules might have been lifted for spearfisherdudes in the Ningaloo marine park :

https://recfishwest.org.au/news/win-for-spearos-in-changes-to-the-commonwealths-ningaloo-marine-park/?utm_source=Members&utm_campaign=bcd53cef7e-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_07_31_12_55&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c111828e14-bcd53cef7e-153729521

I personally think this is a good, fair change, if I’m reading it right!

Is there anyone interested in or already planning a trip from Derby, into the Kimberley next dry season?

Spent the day putting in new steering kit.

Just a bit of tidy up for the morning, dosen't  help when the half moon key dosen't  fit in the slot, back to the supplier so they could file it to fit. Still ready to have ago at the pinkies when weather permits.

Tackle Box Vs Tackle Bag

Hey All

was looking at getting something new.

i was looking at tackle bags?

it would be mainly for boat fishing would you say it is easier to keep them tidy than a box

or the pros and cons of a bag over a box

Thanks

Well done again Fisheries people thank you

My local newspaper (Mandurah Mail) carries two stories this week about how effective our fisheries officers have been, on page 8 of the local paper there is a story about a Mr Ryan Earl who happened to have a set of jaws from a great white mounted on a wall, the police executed a search warrant and discovered the jaws.
Mr Earl earned himself a $5000 mandatory fine plus costs of $190.85 plus an additional fine of $100 oooch.

On page 22 of the paper it was reported also
Mr Jose Larioza earned the wrath of the courts when fisheries sprung him with 61 under size crabs which had an average size of 125mm legal min size is 127mm close to size is not good enough.
In the Mandurah court Mr Larioza was fined a mandatory fine of $3050.00 plus an additional $500.00 plus court costs of $190.85, expensive crabs.

Whilst the pollies take a winter break the guys and dolls of the fisheries don't

Well done good people.

Algae bloom in the sea

Here is my latest fishing video/vlog. I came across a large patch of red/brown water and was thinking this was some kind of algae bloom... would this make fishing hard? because I struggled that day.

Parmelia man fined for excess squid in remote WA location

Parmelia man fined for excess squid in remote WA location

August 9th, 2018, 02:30PM, Written by Gabrielle Jeffery - Weekend Courier NEWS

A PARMELIA man has been fined after bagging more than his fair share of squid at a fishing spot on a remote part of Western Australia’s Gascoyne coast.

Robert William Rowles appeared in Exmouth Magistrates Court on August 7 where he was fined for taking excess squid offshore from Bruboodjoo Point.

Along with another person, 61-year-old Robert William Rowles was fishing from a small boat when Fisheries officers came and inspected his catch.

He presented a catch bag to Fisheries officers that was attached to the boat, which contained 14 squid.

Further investigations resulted in the officers locating a further 30 squid, concealed between two buckets on the boat.

When fishing with two or more people on a vessel, the boat possession limit for squid is 30.

When an individual catches squid the daily bag limit is 15.

Rowles made full admissions to being the master of the boat and knowingly exceeding the boat possession limit.

He was fined $200 and also received an additional mandatory penalty of $529.10 for the excess squid that were seized.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development Gascoyne Midwest Compliance Manager Grameme Meinema said the fine should be a significant deterrent.

“Concealment of fish is a serious matter and Fisheries officers are alert to the potential of it every time they inspect a vessel,” he said.

“Fishers in remote areas should never think they will get away with breaking the rules, they need to know the rules wherever they fish and realise that Fisheries officers are there to ensure those rules are not breached.

“We would ask the local community or visitors to an area to maintain vigilance and report suspicious fishing activity along the WA coast, no matter where it is or how remote.

“Don’t get directly involved, but be observant for details that may help an investigation and phone FishWatch on 1800 815 507 to report any suspected illegal fishing.”

daiwa saltist sd 20h vs shimano tranx 500hg

I am looking at getting an overhead jigging reel around $350. i was looking at getting the saltist but i found the tranx and that seems to have a massive line capasity at 420mto24kg braid and 11kg drag compared to the 8kg drag of the saltist. its going on a ocean legacy slow element pe4 with pe3 ocea braid.

How I gut and gill a Snapper

After filleting a Snapper there is alot of meat left behind on the head and frame, out of respect to the fish I like to give these give to people who appreciate the meal, instead of throwing them in the rubbish. This is how I prep the frames by gutting and gilling making them ready to eat

Ascot Winter Black Bream

First time fishing the Swan during the Winter months. Generally stalk the flats during summer for flatties as they're my preferred eating fish but so far we have had some decent results with bream. 31`35cm jobs but fairly fat and very tall fish. The one the girlfriend caugh was a awesome gold colour, looked absolutley fantastic.

Both were catch and release as i dont really like eating bream. good fun. What else is there to catch in winter months? Tailor and Whiting closer to freo i assume? Certainly no flatties left :(

Also the missus Samurai Reaction rod is just bloody awesome to fish with...must get one for myself.

What is it with some people

I see it again some mayor from god only knows where is telling the premier of our state what a fool he is for not putting in smart drum lines.

I would have thought that this guy would have had enough to do without lecturing our premier about what should be done in the west regarding sharks of our coast, I can't help but wondering just how many small town places on the eastern sea board the west Australian news paper had to contact until they got one that agreed with their view on smart brum lines for sharks
IMO the west news paper seem to have the idea that they know what is best for the population of West Australia never mind about who is elected to govern our state and don't let democracy get in the road of us trying to sway the general population to the way we believe things should be done.

If some political party wants to make the drum line caper an election issue at the next state election then so be it, I don't think west aussies need some hero in his own lunch box telling us what we should or shouldn't do here in the west and have that view pumped up by a news paper which appoints it's self as the voice of all west Australians.

Rant over

Game Fish Outriggers

Where do people go to buy these in Perth? Plenty on the net, all East Coast. Looking to set the boat up probably from the hard top roof or rocket launchers. Happy to look second hand if anyone is looking to sell their set up.

bags vs eskis.

hey guys.
been reading ur posts and these bags seem pretty popular. I currently have an eski, but am thinking about getting one of the cooler bags instead.
just wondering what makes people choose them over an eski? any issues with spines etc wrecking the bag? and how do they go with crays/crabs etc?
my current eski is pretty bulky, so can see the advantage of saving some space...just curious as to what other advantages/disadvantages people find?
cheers!
