Is it worth it?
Submitted by Piggy on Wed, 2014-02-26 13:28So we are having our annual trip to Albany this weekend and I have been closely monitoring the weather. Sunday looks like it wont be too bad with the wond, but the rest of the weekend isnt looking too great.......
So the question is, is it worth taking the big boat down just in case the weather is good enough to get out for a bottom bash or take the dinghy down to do river fishing and crabbing in oyster harbour?.............
First world problems suck! hahaha

Peron Penninsula / South Gregories fishing from Tinny
Submitted by Marto on Wed, 2014-02-26 11:43Hi All,
I have read the million posts on shark bay and peron, but chasing some more specific advice on fishing from a tinny (4m and 15 hp) out on Peron. Has anyone got any advice on which direction to head from South Gregories or will it be succesful enough heading to the reef straight out the front and sounding around? Wanting to target Pinks and Blacks a baldy or 2.
Have been up there landbased a couple of times. We are staying in Denham for first 2 weeks of April but from past experiences know that you have to go fairly wide to get reasonable fish. And because only taking the tinny this time will not have that option, so was going to do a couple of trips up to Peron. Or maybe thinking of fishing the first channel or 2 from Monkey Mia for Pinks and Blacks. Again, any info on which direction to head from there?
Cheers in advance.

Carnarvon Fishwrecked members
Submitted by Jimsjams44 on Tue, 2014-02-25 15:59Hey guys,
We are planning on doing 3 week fishing trip up north and one of the stops will be Bernier/Dorre island pending weather conditions.
The only problem is, we will have a bit of gear we will need to leave in the car and won't feel comfortable leaving the car and trailer at the ramp.
Is anyone on here able to let us leave the car/trailer on their property (somewhere secure)?
Would obviously look after you with cash/carton or something?
Dates would be likely 7-10th March.
Please PM me.
Cheers,
James.

Sure Catch wind on leader - !!! SURE CRAP !!!!!
Submitted by beeroclock on Tue, 2014-02-25 13:34Just thought I would warn people not to buy these wind on leaders. I usually only ever buy richter wind ons but on this day in BCF they were all sold out and I saw they had the "Sure catch" brand there, you get 2 in 1 pack for the price of 1 richter leader so I thought alright may as well grab them cause I needed a leader. Got one of the the 60lb leaders out of the packet and first problem - its only 1.2metres long - how is that a wind on leader? guess it is if im using a fishing rod thats only about 1 metre long! I thought stuff it - i'll still attach the leader and lenghten it later with other 60lb mono i had so I catpawed the dacron to my 10kg (22lb) mono from the reel and pulled - the dacron/60lb mono leader join pulled straight out with not much force. That leader is obviously faulty so I did the same again with the other wind on in the packet and the dacron/mono join pulled apart even easier so dont buy surecatch wind on leaders

Another tagged fish recapture
Submitted by Andy Mac on Tue, 2014-02-25 13:02Got out for my first fish this year. The usual weather, work, family and other commitments have been getting in the way.
Did the usual whiting session followed by the deeper demersal chasing. Slim pickings for most of the day, but we managed a coupld of big breaksea and an 8kg Pinky.
All I personally contributed was a bunch of undersize dhuies that were all returned. One of them I had caught, tagged and released 393 days earlier. It had grown 5cm in that time.
That's quite a few I have recaptured now, so a little bt more confidence for those out there that still doubt you can successfully release undersize fish. The more you look after them on the way up the better they are on the way down. None of the fish I have recaptured have moved more than a few hundred metres.

WIN a Shimano Stella 5000HG / Samurai Kestrel Rod Prize Pack worth over $1500 at Compleat Angler Nedlands
Submitted by Compleat Nedlands on Tue, 2014-02-25 11:22During the month of March Compelat Angler Nedlands are running a competition with a HUGE prize giveaway for Fishwrecked Members.
The MASSIVE Prize Pack worth over $1500 includes:
1 x Shimano Stella 5000 HG Reel
1 x Samurai Kestrel 7’ 25-40lb Rod (these are brand new to the market)
1 x 300m Spool 30lb Power Pro Depth Finder
1 x 50m Spool 50lb Shimano Ocea Leader Ex Fluoro
3 x Shimano Butterfly Flat Fall Jigs
3 x Packs of DelalandeSoft Plastics (exclusive to Compleat Angler Nedlands)
3 x Packs of Lunker City Soft Plastics (exclusive to Compleat Angler Nedlands)

The competition will be run from the 1st-31st of March 2014 on our in-store Scatri Simfish fishing simulator. For those of you who haven’t seen one of these machines in action, you basically hook up a rod and reel to it, select the species you want to fight and level of difficulty. You then fight the fish and the Simfish will calculate a score based on the fight.
.jpg)
For the competition you will be using the rod, reel and line in the prize pack and everyone will be fighting the same fish species on the same level (to be announced).
We will keep a top 20 leaderboard in this thread and try to update it every few days. The member with the highest score at the end of the month will take home the massive prize pack.
You will be limited to 1 turn per day, but can come back multiple days during the month to try again.
Good luck and we look forward to meeting you all!

Rod to Match a Stella 8k
Submitted by Bodie on Tue, 2014-02-25 10:15Been trying to work out for a mate a half decent rod to match his Stella 8k He did have one of those Monster Mesh Max's but the Grips came lose in the first trip away with it, so not keen on another.
He's wanting to spend about 300 or so, so was looking at the Daiwa Demon bloods, problem is matching the rod to suit the fishing requirements.
Stella is running PE 5, and is mainly used for bottom bashing up North (out of Exmouth). He does not fish all that often, and puts his gear through its paces. (going hard to get the reds past the sharks, high sticking etc!)
The demon blood 56 spin is a little light on being rated at PE 3-5.
This is what busted the rod butt on the Monster Mesh
I don't see a lot in the Shimano range, but I guess I have never used them either.
Any recommendations?
Cheers
Bodie
