Denmark advice
Submitted by merdel12 on Fri, 2018-12-28 08:10Heading down to Denmark tomorrow with a 6.8m boat and keen to know how the Wilson inlet has been fishing lately? Never been before but I hear there are decent kgw, bread and butter fish and the odd snapper cruising around. Does anyone know if it's worth taking the crab nets up this time of year?

Augusta Success
Submitted by PJim on Thu, 2018-12-27 15:51Well we launched early this morning and wind was up a bit so stayed close and caught a few whiting and squid.
We had enough around 10 and headed in. After pulling the boat out I was chatting to another fishermen who had caught a dhuie and was heading home today. He pointed me in the direction and I asked miss 9 what she thought we should do, her reply was to relaunch so we did.
We got to the spot 15 mins later and started drifting, 2 drifts in and Miss 9 comes up solid on a 56cm shy, her first. She handled it well with just a little help from dad. An hour later on our last drift I had a nice hit on the 5 inch abrohlos tackle paddle tail and landed a 65 ish dhuie too.
Time to head back to camp
Thanks to the guys who gave advice e on my other thread.

Submitted by Ericl on Thu, 2018-12-27 10:04Hi
Heading to Rotto for a few days and wondering where it would be best to drop a pot. Staying at Longreach. Just wondering if I still need to drop them in sand or rather very close to a bit of reef and what sort of depth
Cheers

HDS 8 Gen 2 as fuel gauge
Submitted by Ericl on Wed, 2018-12-26 18:31Does anyone use a Lowrance HDS Gen 2 as a fuel gauge.
I have an HDS 8 Gen 2 and a Suzuki DF 250 which came with a Garmin multifunction device which worked great until recently. It now takes up to an hour or 2 to turn on which means it isn't calculating fuel used all the time, so I intend to start using the HDS as an engine multi function gauge. Wondering if anyone has done this and if so, what level of accuracy they have experienced after 2 or 3 calibrations
Cheers

Crayfish Biting
Submitted by Tom M on Wed, 2018-12-26 12:57Has anyone else ever been bitten by a crayfish before? I have been rayfishing longer than I can remember diving and pots and when measuring a crayfish a couple of days ago had 1 latch onto my gloved finger, it had such a good bite could not pull or shake it off, dipped it into ice slurry and it let go.
I should listen to my own advice from safety days on hand safety when I used to say never put your finger where you wouldn,t put your d##k

Augusta today
Submitted by PJim on Wed, 2018-12-26 07:03Hi All
Heading to Augusta today for 6 days. Taking my 4.2 Savage with me. Have checked the forecast and looks like we will get at least a couple of days of light winds.
Is there any reasonable demersal fishing within about 5 mm or so of the coast?
I'm guessing there is plenty of kgs and bread and butter fish in close?
Thanks in advance.

Big thanks Sea rescue
Submitted by Stevieboy on Mon, 2018-12-24 08:25Had a big weekend on the water, great weather , just want to thank Whitfords Sea rescue for the tow yesterday from 30 km off 2 rocks , left the ramp before 4am heading out to the bank with my mate Eric, lots of excitement with awsome water and our first demersal bash for a couple of months , 30 km out and all of a sudden my engine just cut out , just had its 200 major service, well slightly stressed I called up Sea rescue and told them our problem, no worries they said we are on our way, looked at my mate and said we may as well drop the lines, barren ground on the sounder, nothing happened for about 10 minutes , all of a sudden my rod loaded up and I had a great battle with a nice 10 kg Dhu, well after that we had the best hour of fishing ever, got bricked by some monsters, bagged out on great baldies, just as we got our last fish our tow turned up,back at the ramp by 9.00am. Just shows how lmportant it is to log on and have all the safety gear , good radio very important, merry Xmas Sea rescue and fellow fishos .

Bridgetown Pemberton Redfin Trout
Submitted by hairyhaggis on Thu, 2018-12-20 20:19Hey guys,
Gonna be heading down to Bridgetown this festive season for a few days, and wondering if anyone is down there now getting some lines wet who would know if any reddies or trout are on the bite? Looking to do fishing mostly around Pemberton at Big Brook Dam, Rooney's Bridge, and if i can get away from the missus for long enough, down Heart Break Trail. Also closer to Bridgetown I'll hit the Donnelly River aswell.
Got some HB minnows, Spinners and SP to try out, so hoping something will land on my plate for dinner!
Cheers for any help!

Tranducer cable with plug
Submitted by mikeurnot on Thu, 2018-12-20 09:50Hi . I have bought my neighbors boat which I used to go out fishing in . He is now fishing up above . The person who was looking after it has taken out the fish finder that was with it . Also he replaced the Lowrance elite 5 HDI with a Furuno fcv-582l . I have checked the internet but can find no details . The transducer cable is a Airmar C172 S2002 . I am probably correct in saying he has replaced the original cable that was connected up to the Lowrance . The plugs no doubt are different to my understanding . Picking up the original sounder on weekend should I also make sure I get the original cable as well . No Idea if the tranducer was swaped out as well hope not .
Any help on this would be great .
Cant wait to get back on the water .

Wreckless Pro Crayfisherman
Submitted by Ericl on Thu, 2018-12-20 06:46Good things have been said in a previous post about a Pro Crayfisherman but unfortunately this wasn't the case yesterday.
Myself and 2 mates were pulling our pots south of the Northern leads from Ocean Reef when a Pro boat came steaming through about 40 to 50 sets of floats at the back of the 3 mile. He could have totally avoided this by travelling a few hundred metres further west, but he chose to steam right through the many Rec pots in this location. I would be surprised if he didn't cut any ropes !
Should this be reported to fisheries at all ?
Cheers
Eric

Cray pot tipper advice
Submitted by sparrow on Wed, 2018-12-19 11:07hey guys,
ive got a tipper and can never get the pot to get to pivot point without a struggle and hoping someone has a pointer on how to better set it up.
The tipper has a roller full width so bridle not choking. The winch is level to roller. I tried adjusting the roller higher but just makes the tipper flip over when winching.
Once the pot gets to half above water level the rope slips on the winch even with 2 wraps and full tension. Pots are usual 3/4 timber with 2 extra plates in
Any advice would be much appreciated.
