Cockburn sound
Submitted by maldugs on Mon, 2017-09-04 16:09Hi, I have a 5m Quintrex runabout, never been out in Cockburn sound, want to give it a try before the snapper closure, any hazards to look out for, and how do you reckon my boat will handle it? Me and missus getting on a bit now, so we have to be careful, any advice appreciated. :)

Creatures of the deep.....
Submitted by terboz123 on Mon, 2017-09-04 14:42
so, in 210m of water heading out off the shelf, we had a drift as there was some sign on the sounder, albiet the wrong or right sign , F**** knows!
my deckie loaded up nicely, with some good weight , but he kind of panicked and lost his mojo ( it was his second ever drop with an elecy) and just confsued himself with how to set the hooks. when he dropped that, i had a dbl of green eye already boat side, he went straight back down, and loaded up again.............
to my surprize, typical of a deep drop species, line starts heading out to the horison blah blah......
up popped a 3 foot very odd looking ray. kind of surprized, and better yet, cut the hook and off she swam, anyone ever came across these out their? if so do you know what species?
it was a national geographic live documentary for us, with the morning consisting of a pod of dolphins (8-12) and two different whales species jumping all around the boat, no matter where we moved...(mind you never went faster then 10 knots due to sounding)........
found these suckahs out in the 500s....... mind the sounder clutter, im constntly changing and tweaking settings to get the best result and figuring out whats settings are best for deep drop......

Madfish or Chiller fish bags?
Submitted by woody on Sat, 2017-09-02 18:39Looking to buy a decent large cooler bag to store the catch in instead of my esky. Is the Madfish bag really worth twice as much as the Chiller brand bag? Has anyone compared/owned both? Or is it like comparing a Toyota to a Great wall?

Herring around Margaret River
Submitted by nebbian1 on Fri, 2017-09-01 16:15Has anyone been catching any herring down south lately?
6 months ago they were everywhere, you'd always come home with a few. Now I can't find them no matter where I try.
Are they seasonal? Do they hate big winter swell?
Or have I just lost my touch?

New Mersey Point jetty - fishing options?
Submitted by Red Dog on Fri, 2017-09-01 10:16For those who may not be aware work is about to begin (late September) on a new jetty at Mersey Point in Shoalwater - this is where the Penguin Island ferry will be operating from.
According to the local paper the jetty will be 76metres long and will have a "lower level landing suitable for short term recreational boating vessel berthing".
There's a few details here if you're interested http://rockingham.wa.gov.au/Our-city/Major-projects-and-developments/Major-Projects/Mersey-Point-Jetty
Be interesting to see if you'll be able to cast a line off it...

Denham/monkey mia
Submitted by Cheeto on Thu, 2017-08-31 19:51hi all,
can i ask if anyone wants to please give me starting point for a few days fishing out of denham and monkey mia? i dont need your GPS marks just an idea of where to start looking.
plan is some snapper bashing and if its calm enough heading out to the west end of dirk hartog for some trolling.
regarding the snapper, am i better startring up near cape peron possibly or would i be better heading towards the channel markers for dirk hartog? turtle bay? we really only have 3 odd days and my track record of late is shithouse, it would be nice to put the boys on a fish or two. really appreciate any info anyone could pass on.... searching and reading isnt really giving me any confidence, and i think ive pested every tackle store enough
i always have spare deck space for local fishing and diving if anyone is up for a bribe :)
THANK YOU in advance
Guy

Good buy for some one
Submitted by meglodon on Thu, 2017-08-31 14:44There is a good boat up for grabs at Ross's auctions this Saturday number 1 on the list. I don't know what make of boat it is but it certainly seems to have all the fruit.
Just a guess but seeing as it's going at the police auction I'm wondering if it is one of the boats that fisheries grabbed last year for interfering with other peoples cray pots.
I think there will be some grating of teeth when it goes under the hammer no matter who used to own it.

Cocos Island Fishing Charters?
Submitted by Tawihiri on Thu, 2017-08-31 06:49Gday Everyone ,
Heading to Cocos Island in October /November and looking to do some Popping ,Jigging and Sportfishing . Never been but the place looks the goods.
How ever I cant find a charter to go on . I would have thought a place like that would have had a dedicated Fishing Charter ?Anyone know why?
The visitor center siad to get hold of local and head out .
Has anyone been and had the same thing? Anyone recomend a skipper that knows their stuff over there? I dont mind forking out decent money for a good boat and skipper not just some local looking to make a quick buck. I did that in Fiji and well...
Enjoy some of the great info on here
Thanks for your input .

Stradic Ci4+ experience?
Submitted by Gaffatron on Tue, 2017-08-29 08:49hi all,
the other week I purchased a new Stradic Ci4+ 4000 and put it on a new Oceanfire jigging rod PE1.5-4, took it out on the weekend and wasn't really impressed with the reel I was using maybe a 10oz snapper lead and the reel was struggling to wind it up I had to lift the rod up and wind down to be able to retrieve and when I had a small dhu on it was even worse.
has anyone had experience with bottom bouncing or light jigging with the new Ci4? am I expecting too much from the reel? or do you think it could be a dodgy reel?
thanks in advance.

Any input will be apprecieated .

Offshore fishing Kalbarri
Submitted by birky on Sat, 2017-08-26 21:23Hi Forum
I'm heading off to Kalbarri with a 6.3m boat in October. I have been up there with a tinny before and know about the dangers of the river mouth. I have read some old forums about offshore fishing there and was looking for some more info if possible. Hoping to fish for both demersals and pelagics weather permitting.
