skirted lures ready to go
Submitted by randall df223 on Sat, 2014-12-20 17:05I won a couple of vent right ally bait skirted lures in a social media competition. I also got the wife to buy a couple when she was last in singapore. well I have them rigged and ready to go.
I can change hooks easily when needed just by undoing the shackle. I can also introduce an addition hook (back to back) by shackling one straight through the eye of the hook.
ready to go and find those metro tuna (when this wind buggers off.. )

Garmin 78sc review
Submitted by Super peg on Fri, 2014-12-19 16:51Hey Guys,
looking at getting a better handheld for my fishing
The Garmin GPSmap 78sc come preloaded with Aus and NZ bluechart, I use the slightly leser model (78s) at work so I'm sold on the unit and such but
just curious as to how good the marine charts are?
my Navionics on my phone does the job but once out the main metro area (just south of Bunbury) I loose all the charts...
will this be the same on the GPS charts that come preloaded with the garmin? has anyone used it?
I'm hoping that the charts will be for all the way around Australia, not just the metro areas.
I've posted a link below to the unit with its description.
hope someone can help
Cheers, KP

Hillarys boating advice
Submitted by Burra on Thu, 2014-12-18 13:25 Hi guys, I finally have bought myself a boat here in WA
and am going to take it for a spin off Hillarys tomorrow morning. I have noticed that there is a fair bit of shallow ground out to 3 mile reef. I have no chart plotter and a sounder that needs some serious attention which is making me a bit cautious about heading out in the early morning. I am wondering if any of you regular fishos could give me some advice on areas to avoid etc?? Now I have a Tub I can hopefully post a few good reports if I manage to jag something.
Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Prawning
Submitted by RobK on Thu, 2014-12-18 11:48Just after a bit of general info here. Searched the forums and read as much info as I could before posting.
So I fish in the swan a lot, go freshwater fishing, crabbing, marooning etc and was looking for something different to try.
Is prawning without a boat or diving worth it? I read that winter seems to be the best time after rain but can you still get them in summer? It'll be primarily in the swan with a hand-held net but also down south around Australind.
I'm not looking to get tonnes of them etc. just want something a bit different but also don't want to completely waste my time if its the wrong time of year and/or extremely hard to get them from the shore.
Cheers in advance.

UPDATE - Who wants to come to PNG for huge Dogtooth/GT/Napoleon?
Submitted by dkonig82 on Wed, 2014-12-17 03:55Want a shot at huge Dogtooth Tuna, Napoleon Wrasse, GTs and more? After reading the internet hype recently about the new potential destination of Eastern Fields, I have decided to put on a trip for 2015 to go and see what all the fuss is about and looking for a few anglers to join.
Eastern Fields is a huge area that has seen essentially zero recreational fishing and remains largely unexplored. The nearest place I had seen fished was Ashmore Reef, where spectacular results have been attained. I'm extremely excited about the possibility of being able to throw a lure where it is likely nobody has thrown one before, to get a true chance at a trophy fish.
The trip leaves from Port Moresby fishing with Sportfishing PNG and involves a 100nm sea voyage to Eastern Fields. Fishing will be 6 days of jigging and popping from 7 to 12 December 2015, with the new moon falling on the 11th, which should ensure spectacular fishing.
So far only one exploratory trip has been done to the region where bad weather prevented access to the outside of the reef, but great results were still had. A write up of that trip can be found here http://ebbtideadventures.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/exploratory-trip-to-eastern-fields-with.html
We still have a few spaces free for this trip, so please drop me a message if you are keen to get involved. Trip price AUD$6000 plus flights to Port Moresby includes luxury mothership with 3 * 24ft tenders to fish from plus all meals.
Please drop me a PM if you are keen.
Cheers,
Dan

UPDATE
Bit of an update guys.
For starters, there is 1 spot left on this boat. If you want it, get in quick!
Also - just read a brief report from the second trip that has been out there. They are there now, on their second day of fishing. Weather a bit tough at first, but this afternoon they got outside the reef for a short session, and the results are just as I'd hoped.
"hit the honey pot this afternoon, striking a school of GTs with consistent double hook ups. Schools of GTs (estimated at around 60 GTs) were seen right on the outer Western Wall and would follow right up to the boat. 35 GTs were landed with the largest GT weighed in at 45kgs plus a heap of 25 to 35kg fish"
Not bad for an afternoon session with 3 anglers....

Lighthouse Exmouth
Submitted by fab on Tue, 2014-12-16 06:42Hi all. My mate and I are heading up to Exmouth next year and we're staying at the lighthouse caravan park. Was wondering if anyone has tried any land based fishing in that stretch directly in front of the park. If yes, how did you go? I thought of maybe throwing out a few smaller poppers, and also my trusty gold twisty. What do you guys think, am I on the right track?
Any feedback would be awesome.
cheers

New Zealand Snapper
Submitted by tcarroll on Mon, 2014-12-15 18:03Hi Guys.
I am heading over to the south island of New Zealand in January and am looking at doing a bit of land based snapper fishing around Nelson and Picton.
Can anyone give me some ideas on what might be a good outfit to use to strayline from the shore? I have not had much experience fishing for snapper from shore.
Also if anybody has been to the south island of NZ and has any must see places, I would love to hear about them!
Cheers!!
