filleting knife storage tip
Submitted by catchalittle on Mon, 2014-06-09 14:28On a recent trip up to Gnaraloo one of the guys kept all his filleting knives in a pvc tube similar to a rod tube but a smaller version about 40cm long with a screw on cap he was able to keep 4 different filleting knives plus a cleaver and a steel in this thought this was a even better idea than the good old knife wraps plus only a few bucks to make

Nor squid
Submitted by Josh on Sun, 2014-06-08 21:49hey fellas.
Dragged the boat downto the sound over the weekend and managed plenty of squid and some kgw.
Is there any big sections of flats and weed banks that hold squid / kgw from the north ramps, it takes me a bit over an hour to get the boat to point peron, and usually a little longer on the way home with traffic, but Hillarys is 20mins each way.

Barra trip to NT
Submitted by pale ale on Sat, 2014-06-07 16:21Just returned from our annual trip to the NT's Daly River to fish the Barra Classic.
Here's a few photos if anyone is interested
Biggest fish for the first day of comp put us in first place :)

Caught a couple of these too

Also hooked a 200 pounder

Stopped at the Ord on the way home for a couple more days of fishing. Ord fishing was a lot better than Daly, we caught about 45 barra in 2 days up to 104cm

Sound snapper?
Submitted by DunkerT on Fri, 2014-06-06 22:22Hey all,
First post, please be kind! ;-)
I'm heading out to the cockburn sound tomorrow looking to get some decent size pink snapper. I've managed to convince the misses to be Anchor gal for the evening as my usual fishing buddies are back up the mines this weekend.
I've promised her a feed of nice big snapper in return so just wanted to make sure that I'm heading in the right direction. Current plan is for an overnight stay at the top end of Garden Island with a bit of late night fishing on 3 fathom bank and then up early to catch the sun up bite in the same area.
Ive rigged up running sinker rigs with fluro and 40lb fluoro leader (smelled circle hooks). Planning to burley up like mad and bait up with squid and mullies.
Does this sound like the right plan? Not after anyone's secret spots or killer rigs. Just want to know that I'm not wasting my time and going to waste all my brownie points!
cheers!

Lowrance 7HDI transducer update
Submitted by Mick71 on Fri, 2014-06-06 18:37Hi people, as in my previous post, Here ,
I have an update as to what has happened.
I did some mods and went to test it today and it worked perfectly, I even get readings up to 25Knts, it doesn't even go bezerk when in reverse.
Just need to do some final settings, but they are working quite well at the moment
I would just like to say thanks to all who gave some advice.
I did the following:
- Moved the tranny to the left, about 16cm and away from any chines
- Moved the tranny wire away from any electrical wire to avoid interference
- Cleaned the tranny face, but didn't put dish wash liquid on it
- Tilted the tranny forward
- put the power wire directly to the battery
- did a software update
I'm not too sure what sorted it out, but I have a feeling it might be the position of the tranny.
Thanks again guys

Scalies as live bait
Submitted by old salt on Thu, 2014-06-05 21:04Hey guys what noteable catches have you made using scalies as live bait? How long do the last in 30-40m of water and where do you place your hook to keep them live.
Are there any areas they frequent near the Fremantle boat ramp?

Shimano Nano PX V G Loomis NRX
Submitted by Russell Iles on Thu, 2014-06-05 15:28Anyone tried the new Shimano Naono PX?
The greatest rod you can get your hands on or so the promo goes.
Wonder how it stacks up against the G Loomis NRX rods rated as the best period.
Both rods are Shimano made, so I wonder how good they are side by side.
What rod manufacturer will next claim to be the best ever?
Or do you think that it is all about marketing taking us to new heights
by clever use of words?
Any one tried the Nano PX, please let us know.
Cheers

Exmouth, Ideal Months & Prefered Charters
Submitted by BarraSlayer on Thu, 2014-06-05 14:26Hey Guys,
I'm looking at organising a holiday to exmouth and would like to get everyones advice on the best time of year for reef fishing and best charter options.
I'm very much into soft plastics - who would be best to accommodate this? Also don't mind trolling for pelagics.
Is there better time of year for weather?
Who are the guys charter guys that consistently put you on the fish?
What length of charter ie 2-7 days do you recommend? What is ball park cost of your suggestions.
What boats are the most liveable for the other half as I may have to take the anchor with me.
Accommodation suggestions for the mainland would also be helpful.
Are there many good land based spots to go to while not on the boat?
Thanks
BS.

Fishing a Berley Trail
Submitted by UnderwaterChad on Thu, 2014-06-05 13:15Hey all,
I'm very new to boat fishing, and after some advice after going out in Cockburn sound last week and not catching a thing.
What is the technique for fishing a berley trail? In my head I have it pictured that i'd have to use about 5 litres of berley, and drop out a scoop every 20 metres or so of drifting, and then re drift that area over again to take advantage of the berley..
is this correct and can anyone offer any advice for this?
Is there a different berley technique you would use for king george etc, as oppsoed to snapper/dhueys?
