Plastic Craypots
Submitted by rayvon on Sun, 2018-11-11 12:14I have access to two round plastic/steel bottom craypots. Would like to hear from anyone who has used or knows someone that has used them regards positives/negatives. Are they better or worse catchers than slat pots? Look forward to your comments.

2018 crays
Submitted by merdel12 on Thu, 2018-11-08 13:55So it's coming up to that time of the year. I've fished the whites the last 3 years and have done very well out of Freo. Any news on what state the Crays are in at the moment? Whens everyone dropping their pots in? I'll probably drop late November then start pulling in December. Hope the weather is as good as it was last year

International Fishing line specs confusion!
Submitted by Niczilla on Tue, 2018-11-06 08:28This is something that is currently driving me nuts - Trying to buy some J-Braid 80lb here in Australia at the moment as its on runout in prep for their new J-Braid Grand but unfortunately its out of stock everywhere so decided to look in the UK and WOW things get confusing! Australian J-Braid Specs are-
J-BRAID CHARTREUSE PE8 - 38kg/80lb / 0.43mm
Ok great, thats what ill look for.. but only if it could be so easy! Euro specs for 79lb (yeah 79??)
PE6 - 37kg/79lb / 0.35mm
Almost 0.1mm smaller?? really? So ok lets look at the next weight up 103lb
PE8 - 46.5kg/103lb / 0.42mm
Whoa.. So the 103lb is 0.01mm thinner that the australian 80lb??
I just have no idea what all this means! Surely its the same line from the same damn factory.....
Anyone have any thoughts of whats going on? All I want is some damn 80lb line!

Mandurah Crabs
Submitted by crasny1 on Tue, 2018-11-06 07:52Just for Info
Went out for a gander and a cruise but since the season for crabs is open dropped some exploration pots. 1 Monster keeper at 15mm over legal, nil other so latter released to scare another crabber. But OMG was there a lot of babies. Some pots had up to 4 little one fighting for a feed. Also slow trolling Smiling jacks lures in the middle of the day got 4 juvenile Tailor just under size. 2 x 10 strings our count was 42 crabs as we keep a log. LOL 41 unders but looking good for when they graduate to high school.
Cheers

Beach launching my 5.8mtr sportfish Cuddy Cab Plate Aluminium boat help
Submitted by bluemule on Tue, 2018-11-06 07:10Hi everyone,
We have finally retired and are planning a trip to SA to collect a few KG whiting.
Its been a few years since I have posted on here. Its a great site to gain valuable info for trips such as the one I must do on my bucket list.
Let me first tell you what I have put together so as not double up on the same idears.
My Tug is a 2012 Toyota 200series GX TTD with five speed crawl.
To this I have brought a receiver mount winch that will take a 12500kg winch incase the truck gets bogged near the shore break, I can drop the trailer onto the drop down Dunbeir fifth wheel, to enable me to get the truck onto firmer ground and winch the trailer/boat out with block to half the load.
I have two sets of maxtracks for the truck as well.Plus four snatch straps/ extensions.
I was thinking of inverting my hitch to enable the boat to slide off at an angle of 10-15 degrees, plus the same on retrival.
PS: yes I have let the tyres down to 20psi.I have a double heavy duty 150psi 12v pump as well.
The trailer is a tandum set up 400kg with small 900x6 tyres and rims. ( I know, I know.) three speed winch I/1.5/1. 10/1.
The boat is 850kg loaded with fuel. Motor is a 115 Yamaha four stroke.
Launching into a protected bay with small shore break of 300/450mm.The entire shore line is covered in ribbon weed from 300-450mm thick.
I have seen how pulling the entire rig at 45 degs to the shore break makes for easier retrevial.
Now here is where my brain has gone into Overdrive. I and my wife will be on our own. D wife will be in the boat doing the driving both off and back on. The trailer is fully rollered with full Teflon fitted to all exposed gal parts.
( Pray for my beloved boat).
I know that the longer the trailer is sitting in the wash the trailer will sink into the sand caused by the wash around the tyres.
My brain came up with aluminium used security doors with the diamond mesh screen fitted as they are very strong. These are 2 x1200 x 2000mm plus 6 x 2000mm x800mm.
the idear is to back the trailer onto the two larger sections face down to 1, reduce the sand + ribbon weed pushing up through the mesh,2. make a large area to spread the total weight of 1350kg.Thust I will have the mesh as extra traction to get rolling out of harms way.
PS I have a 3000lb electric winch with two remotes so I can control the hook and help guide the boat back on.
Any extra help/ suggestions please.

Mounting Sounder
Submitted by SpotHound on Mon, 2018-11-05 17:53I have just got a new sounder, but the factory mount means the sounder is up against the curved part of the windscreen and that means I cant pull it up to remove it
when stored so the sounder doesnt get stolen, (I'm sure a theif would have not problem smashing it out sadly).
Has anybody used a ram mount to bring the sounder forward and does it keep the unit stable, because if it keeps dropping, that would be annoying.
Aslo, how to drill a srew hole when the windscreen curves above the hole and you cant get a drill in there.
So many problems from a simple upgrade.

Kalbarri fishing trip
Submitted by MAGA2020 on Mon, 2018-11-05 09:29Was up in kalbarri from 26/10 until the 04/11. Have been coming here since i was a kid and i love it. Winds were up at 30kms + every afternoon and made PM fishing pointless. Dropped a spanish mack off the rocks at red bluff on the second day around lunchtime which was super annoying because its the second time its happened.... oh well... maybe the 3rd one will be a winner.
Wittecarra creek provided some big whiting and a feed of herring and some lucky fisherman caught a Cobia on the 02/11. Water level in the river was super low so i didnt bother trying to chase jacks or any bream, getting up to nanny goat would have been worth while but i was happy to sleep in instead. We decided to get in touch with Rob from Land Based Fishing Tours and he took us to some of his honeyholes to fish some surf breaks. Hes a great dude and really knows his stuff and is a pleasure to deal with. His fishing tours are very unique too. He gets you there.... but you do the work. Bait up, cast, play the fish, fillet it when you get home which i think its great. Great trip and i would do it again in a heartbeat. AM fishing, PM hunting and plenty of beer. Great, great time.
Canal Rocks Boat Ramp
Submitted by cocokye on Sun, 2018-11-04 22:26Does anybody know any information on whats going to happen with this ramp? . Down there the other week and noticed that it was taped off with red/white danger tape but there were boat trailers in carpark so people are still using it.
I remember that there was a petition and rally to save it but not sure on goverments decision on its future?
It certainly needs some money spent on it after the winter storms .
