Furuno 587 TM 260 Transducer 1KW Settings

Guys

Found plenty of useful threads on FW and finally im upgrading to TM260 1 Kw for my Furuno 587....Can anyone help out from a settings POV? Once selecting the transducer type in the settings menu...do any users recommend actually changing any of the other settings? over the years ive spent plenty of time fine tuning for the 600w- anyone recommend what settings they are using ? I use mainly for bottom fishing in 70-100m- using the shift function on only the bottom 10metres. any help would be appreciated

Launching at two rocks for the first time

 G'day all

recently moved back to the city and will be looking to head out from two rocks in the coming month or so

Im just wondering once I have launched is there a certain way thru the reef or once I'm out the marina is it a straight shot to wherever I'm going?

thanks for any pointers

Exmouth in July

 Hey everyone

Me and a mate are heading to Exmouth in July, I was just wondering what gear i would likely need? I would love to catch a nice size GT or even a cobia. We will mainly be land-based, other species we'll be targetting are, queenies, any type of trevs, cobia, spangled emperor and mackies. Currently for bigger fish im running a saragosa 10000 with 50lb fins on a ocea 732. Also what are some good lure choices to stock up on before we head up?

Thanks in advance

How to balloon

Hi all,

Was thinking about giving ballooning a shot when I head up north in a couple weeks from the beach and was wondering if anyone had any rigs they'd be willing to share with me. Do I use helium or just air, what can I catch, how far do I let out the ballon, what sort of rig do I use, where do I place the bait in the water, what bait do I use, overhead or spinning?

Any advice would be helpful

cheers Rob

Wednesdays day off

BEACH FISHING COMPETITION - RESULTS

 Hi All.

Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club is holding there annual 'Masons Bar Beach Fishing Classic' but this year there is a change!!!

ITS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!!

Our goal at the ORSSC is to hold a competition similar to the Bluewater Classic or Swanfish but with a few differences.

The first, is that this event is a beach fishing competition so hopefully this targets a broarder demographic and everybody who owns a rod and reel can enter and have a good weekend with the chance to win some great prizes. The second, is that its an open beach fishing competition, meaning once you sign on at the ORSSC on friday arvo/night (4pm-9pm) you are free to fish anywhere LANDBASED and yes for those of you asking, if you have a plane or chopper you can fish on the otherside of the country as long as you are back to sign off for the weigh in!!

The Masons Bar Beach Fishing Classic offers over $15,000 worth of prizes this year. Our aim is to grow bigger and better over the next few years and hopefully become a household name like the 'Bluewater Classic'

ORSSC would like to invite all fishwrecked members along with all members of the general public to join us in making this competition one to remember.

For those on facebook there is a page 'ORSSC Masons Bar Beach Fishing Classic' with more info. Also I have posted a few pictures below regarding general information, competition rules and the registration form.

The easiest way to register is in person either at Getaway Outdoors Balcatta or at the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club however registration forms can also be emailed through or by post if necessary.

Remember this is our first year running a competition open to the general public so there is sure to be a few kinks to iron out along the way, feel free to comment and please share with all of your friends, family, enemies....the whole lot!

Hope to see you all there!!

Also if there are any businesses out there that would like to support this event we are still open to sponsers so please dont hesitate to contact me, big or small we appreciate all businesses that help us on our opening year.

Ningaloo

Heading up to Ningaloo Station next month.

Staying at Point Billie, taking a 6 m boat up n after looking at navionics seems ok to launch n head out through the gaps in the reef.

One seems straight out n the other slightly n/w.

Any areas that might be a bit tricky? Is there other gaps in the reef people use ?

Any advice much appreciated.

GPS Stuck on Loading Charts

I updated my Navionics+ card and placed in back in my GPS and it's been stuck on 'Loading Charts' for a good 10 minutes now. I don't remember it doing that when I first put it in after buying it so is this common after updating a card?

Rangers

Who here has copped a fine from the ranger for parking on the cleared dunes at carlise st boat ramp, which heaps of people do park on as i have seen.I was told by someone down there they (Council) cleared it for peak cray season (Whites).

Rated Shackles

Guys, whats the deal with rated shackles?

Appearently I've been living under a rock and only recently heard this is law

Do all the attachments have to have rated shackles?

- trailer chains to the vehicle, safety chain from trailer to boat, hook from winch strap to boat

Also how does the rating relate to the weight of the boat?

Does a 400 KG boat need 400 KG shackles?

Chatnam Island/Walpole S.B.Tuna info

Gday Fishwreckers,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has put some any time into catching any SBT in this area.

Heading down on monday to give it a crack, out over the edge if the weather plays the game, it is looking not to bad for the south coast.

All setup up with outriggers, Tiagras all  respooled, lures re-rigged starting to froth

Any info or experiences would be great.

Will post a report on our adventure when we get back.

Cheers Stoinka.

Rob H is a f...ing genius

His quip about people not having a clue that their winging it has nailed it. After watching our daughter battle through spinal fusion for 18 months Im convinced most in the health care no nothing about peoples pain and most are incompetent including specialists. After seeing a young lady have a Vro put on her which is absolutely just bullshit and police and judges just swallow it with no evidence. Rob you are a genius. Rant over

Carnac / Stragglers tomorrow morning

Gonna troll from woodies out to the islands nice and early tomorrow, mate and I havent really been there before and wondering what we should target for a feed once we are there. Plan is to bottom bash around the structure and see whats lurking. Looking for any tips and what sorta species we'll find out there. Good to snag a Snapper or something decent. What are the odds ? Probably begin with squidding for bait.

squid in the sound

Thinking about headin out tomorrow morning to try get some squid in the sound. Any out there atm and if so can anyone point in the right direction? hope to get enough for lunch and freeze some for bait ;)

Advice Wanted - Beach Rod & Reel

 Hi,

Chasing some advice on a high quality beach rod and reel set up. I haven't done much from the beach so can't help too much.

My step dad is planning on spending a lot of time sitting out the front of camper vans on the beach in the next few months. He has a week booked at Lucky Bay (the northern one) from easter and a month booked at Ningaloo in a couple of months. Whilst he is a bit of a fishing novice, he is also a gear freak so is happy to pay at the higher end for good quality gear, and he intends to use it. I have sorted out a small rod/reel for him already, but am chasing something 9 - 12ft with a bit of a grunt with the expectation that something decent will swim past him in the 5 weeks that he has available. What do you recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Jarrid

where do you get parts from please. I have a Mercury

Trailer been tampered with

 Just a heads up

At woodies ramp,

a old gentelmans winch who I was assisting with loading up his boat was wound on backwards so it wouldnt lock up.

I figured he had just wound it all out then wound it on wrong.

Then cracked on to retrieve my tub and low and behold mine was now buggered up too.

I was lucky that it didnt catch me out mid retrieve as it was blowing a southerly and I was on my own. may have made it a little awkward.

Not a huge deal but some C#nt had gone to the effort of winding it all the way out then back in again.

Voyager boat project

Am able to get a voyager runabout hull in amazing condition

I am wanting a boat for lure fishing sharkbay/Exmouth but can still handle the rough stuff.

Anyone know if the hull is a good design?

Cheap boat carpet

FYI, I know this gets asked a lot,so thought I'd chuck this out there.

There's a carpet supplier on Abernathy Rd Belmont called Carpets, Etc, selling ribbed marine carpet for $38 per lineal metre (2m wide). Whitworths the are selling the same/equivalent stuff for $65 per lineal metre.

I I got some yesterday, and it's good shit!

Fishing with a toddler

Hi guys.  I want to take my young fella out fishing for the first time, he's almost 4.  Any LB spots you could recommend that are good for him, and a good chance of pulling out a fish?  (I reckon I've got about a 10 minute window of concentration, so this is make or break ) Pref metro area.

Thanks.

Abrolhos Island Charters

I know there are heaps of posts about the best charter operators to the Abrolhos, but I haven't seen any comments from people who have used Abrolhos Island Charters.  I'm trying to organise a family 3 or 4 day charter some time in the future.  There seems to be a lot of support for Craig Warne's Saltwater Charters and Rat Patrol, but haven't heard anything much about Abrolhos Island Charters.  This trip is just one of those "bucket list" things, so I have to take the best option.

I will appreciate any good advice.  Thanks

last nights mully

Bit of fun on 20lb snapper gear

Couple of Dhus and A Cray Today

Took me mate out today as the weather was bloody fantastic. Credit to him aswell, he flew in last night on the last plane fronm Barrow and was at my house 4am. Got to the ramp and forgot ice at the petrol, No worries i say, I will be back! Well as I left the carpark at Pt Kennedy the diesel has a cough and a splutter. OOPS! Out of diesel! So push the car into back into a trailer bay and sent the wife a lovely morning text. Oh yes she was impressed! WTF!!! was the first 3 leeters of the text, followed by not happy. ( Might get a belting when i get home). Haha.

Anyway we sat at the ramp for an hour catching yakkas and hezzas for fresh bait, headed off at 6am and checked my pots Sth of Coventry. 1 cray. Sat the Swiftyt on 22knots all the way to a mark in the 50's and started fishing. Ended up being slow for us with plenty of fish on the sounder but not really that interested. A few other boats left and  I get a 60cm Dhu. Moved around and found another bit of ground, 1st drop and the THUMP on the end my rod said Bigh Dhu!. Farken rookie mistake I ended up playing it a little and it buried me in its cave. A good 5 mins of give and take and out it comes, but Twang!!! goes the bloody line connected to the hooks. Rig come up a fully scuffed mess. Oh well another day for that one. Moved again and found a  bit of ground rising from 40 metres to 25mteres. I I kept moving all around the area so I have a good idea of the area. My mate pulled a 60cm Dhu and an equally sized Harlequin. Again plenty of showings on the sounder but nothing serious. Had to leave to get home for the kids.

26knots on the way in and 3 mile west off Coventrys theres this Big Yellow Bouy drifting. Reported it to Freo Sea Rescue and they asked me to tow it in. I gave it a crack but I wasn't risking my boat and motor pulling this big heap of flotsum. Called them back and they rang me on my phone to get its co-ords and let the Water police deal with it. Start cruising again and just on FFB I see some more driftwood ahead, I would hate for anyone to of hit this. 2 big planks nailed and screwed together, both pieces 1800mmx200x50mm. Would've made a mess of a fibreglass hull. Probably weighs 20kgs. I have that at my house now.

All in all a good day out with 2 dhus and a harley.

After hours bait

Forgot to buy bait - going fishing 5am tomorrow from Cockburn Power Club - Woodie Point - any ideas where to get it from tonight or first thing tomorrow, other than my local IGA in the Foothills
