Sunday would have been a cracker
Submitted by crasny1 on Mon, 2016-04-04 10:26Wow. Cant believe I couldn't get out on Sunday. F-all wind and <1m swell. Would have been close to the best day I have seen for a fish after coming down from Karratha.
I couldn't get out (commitments) but did anyone get out on what must have been glass out there.
Jealous as.

Pilgramunna launching
Submitted by jng on Mon, 2016-04-04 08:32Hey fw crew
looking at different options to launching my tub up at Exmouth. Question is has anyone seen or ever tried to launch a 7.5m ally boat at pilgramunna?
most reports say smaller vessels is not a problem, but haven't seen many reports of larger boats.
Thanks in advanced

Sea Sweep
Submitted by Grey Ghost on Sun, 2016-04-03 16:29My son caught a 50cm sea sweep behind Rotto early this morning. Poor kid, got him out of bed at 4:30am and apart from a baldie, a pretty poor effort out there . A few scalyfins, undersized black arse cod and ended up going in closer for some flathead and sand whiting. I reckon we caught 15 very small flatties including one which was smaller than my sinker (struggled to get to 5cm - what's minimum legal size? Lol). Fished for 7 hours in amazingly calm conditions with very few fish on the fish finder.
Anyway he wanted to keep the largish sea sweep. Hutchins & Swainston indicate 3 stars out of 4. Worth keeping and eating next time?

furuno 295 reef runner
Submitted by Gray on Sun, 2016-04-03 10:22Any one experienced installing trannys in these boats.
Bought the boat last year. Low and high freq trannys are in seperate wet boxes just back of mid ships. High works ok but dont get good sounding at planing speed.
Went out deep yesterday and low freq tranny was terrible. Needed really high gain to get a picture and then way too much clutter.
I know midships is not a good place for trannys so will be moving them ones or some new ones. I reckon the reason they put them there was the lack of bilge area and the storage compartment gave the most access.
Im thinking the easiest would be transom mount, otherwise cutting a hole in the back deck.
I will also be calling taylor marine but appreciate any input you guys might have
Cheers
Gray

AM Radio Interference
Submitted by Seaquest on Sun, 2016-04-03 09:34Hi all, I've just replaced an old stereo with a Fusion stereo and are having trouble with the AM radio. The AM radio works fine untill I turn something on like the GPS, lights etc then I get really bad interference. I have used all the old wiring and aerial from the old stereo and never had a problem with that. The FM works fine all the time so I'm not sure what I should do. I like the AM to listen to the footy when out fishing. Anyone had a similar issue or can suggest a way to fix it.
Cheers

Quick dash to the FADS - straighthook
Submitted by Notorious on Sat, 2016-04-02 23:24Big swell - low wind called for my first dive at the FADS in a couple years. Plenty of small to medium sized dollies - also rat kings at the actual bouy itself. Lost one mahi to a decent sized bronzie that took a fancy to the struggling fish. All in all, I shot my limit in 4 drifts. 3 divers on board.
I shot the biggest of the day, lucky to land it with the spear not fully penetrating with a long shot on this bull - lucky to get a spine shot and instantly rolled him.

Advice - Late model Pajero as tow vehicle
Submitted by Muppet on Sat, 2016-04-02 23:11Hi all, chasing advice from any late model diesel Pajero owners.
How do they perform as a tow vehicle, larger, heavier boats around 3 ton.
i am considering my options at the moment and whilst I would love a 200 series cruiser, prices for near new are
seemingly getting unrealistiic.
Any bad reports for the mitzis ?

Mewstones and surrounding areas
Submitted by joycey on Sat, 2016-04-02 18:25Hi all,
Planning to take wife and kids out tomorrow to fish around Mewstones and surrounding area, hopefully get some salmon action. Will be trolling/casting.
I haven't fished this area before ( tend to fish more offshore areas normally) and would be grateful for any safety tips in regards to reefs and breaking waves. Will it be ok with Tomorrow's swell prediction of around 1.5-2.5m. Are you best staying on inside of these reefs rather than oceanside ?
Thanks for advice
Joycey

Richter plug under weighted?
Submitted by sheldoncy23 on Fri, 2016-04-01 14:31So I've just bought a richter plug for the first time in years along with some slices and I noticed for a 3 ounce plug it is surprisingly light compared to the 70g twisty I bought so I took to the scales and it proved me right. It weight 68g but if my math is correct 3 ounces should convert to ~84g. Anyone else notice this? I know it's not essentially a big deal but 16g could be the difference between no fish and killing the pig

Yallingup Salmon
Submitted by Cameron71 on Fri, 2016-04-01 14:24Hi Lads
down in Busselton with my old dad and looking for a non rock based place to have a go at the salmon from. Is yallingup beach worth a go? Or am I better off the beach at meelup or bunkers? Can't risk him slipping on the rocks.
Thanks

Warroora Camp Options?
Submitted by tcarroll on Thu, 2016-03-31 11:35Hey Guys,
Heading up to Warroora and Gnaraloo for the first time at the end of June with the plan to do some land based fishing and surfing.
Site is booked for Gnaraloo but was curious to know peoples favourite locations to camp at Warroora with the best access to good landbased fishing and surf if possible? I have had a look through previous discussions and it looks like the southern half of the station is probably where I should be looking.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers!!

Flat batteries
Submitted by Grey Ghost on Thu, 2016-03-31 06:46Alarm goes off at 4AM. Car packed and leave home at 4:15AM. Pick up boat from WA Boat Storage at 5AM and load up with fuel. Down at Cockburn Power Boat Club by 5:20AM. Boat load and ready to go down ramp - try to lift motor.
2 FLAT BATTERIES and no electrical devices left on inside the boat. I knew one was dying but as I was using the boat couple of times per week it keep going. Both batteries same age. Can't leave batteries on charge because boat stays in boat storage.
Now home at 6:30AM and bait back in the freezer - at least it hadn't thawed out.
Always look like a twit when leaving the ramp with boat on trailer, and steam coming out of ears, and all the boats are arriving to go in the water.
Oh well, I guess the wife will line up some jobs around the house for me today now.

Korea shopping for gear
Submitted by meglodon on Wed, 2016-03-30 21:44Can anyone give me a heads up on what the shopping for fishing gear is like in the Korean capitol.
I've got a son going there soon and I thought if there is some good fishing gear places I'ld get him to get me a bit of gear if he can get the time.
