hangover bay
Submitted by KAL98 on Wed, 2016-04-20 20:43Hey guys,
My family and i are heading up to hangover bay this Saturday. Have any of you fished there before ? If so what species should we target and where would be the best spots? We wont have a boat so it is worthwhile fishing from the shore ??
Cheers Kal

Coral Bay Query
Submitted by sjc88 on Wed, 2016-04-20 20:25Hi All
I am heading to Coral Bay soon with a few friends and we have hired a boat from Exmouth Boat Hire. The navigational limitation is 5 nautical miles from shore. I am wondering what my options for fishing are given this restriction? Fear we won't be getting stuck into any reds that close?
Cheers

Transducer vandalism
Submitted by ALEXANG3 on Wed, 2016-04-20 09:27I went to take the boat out last Tuesday and was greeted by the somewhat anger-provoking sight below. Someone has cut my transducer cable. I first thought that they were perhaps trying to steal the transducer and couldn’t remove it/got spooked, but why would you cut the cable in two places? The amount of cable left on the transducer end is quite short, so I’m not sure there is enough left to splice it back together? It seems like it is someone who knows about boats and has just done it to cause damage.
I had been out on the boat on the Saturday so it happened at some stage on Sunday/Monday (10th/11th April) in Fremantle.
Anyone got a Lowrance P66 transducer they’re looking to offload or have suggestions for repair?
Cheers,
Alex

Swan River bream?
Submitted by Ben01 on Tue, 2016-04-19 18:45Anyone having any luck lately??
I am considering doing some early morning sessions this week and need some suggestions where I could be in with a reasonable shot on hard bodies??
Preferably Freo to Perth but would consider further out if it sounds good. Not really wanting under noisy traffic bridges at this stage, more of a walk/wade along the banks.
PM is fine if you dont wish to advertise :) I'm new to luring for bream and would kill to get the confidence up so I'm sure someone will help a brother out :) I am strictly catch and release.
Cheers guys.

MAAC / MARMION BEACH
Submitted by Lowza on Tue, 2016-04-19 15:53Looking at the beach opposite the MAAC Club on west coast highway looks quite fishy in particular for tailor with the reef structure and open sand patches.
Just wondering if you are allowed to fish this area????,as I am aware there is a marine park further south.

The Shredder Gets a Home
Submitted by Mick C on Tue, 2016-04-19 13:09The Shore Catch fully commercial fish shredder, fitted with all of the required safety gear, was delivered yesterday. This was a much awaited event and the machine adds a whole new dimension to our fish processing abilities.
Gave it a really good test on about 100kg of various types of fish and it passed with flying colours. We now have a good supply of pilchard, mullet, tuna and mixed fish shred in 1kg and 2kg packs.

Burley day today as we have just about sold out. Good thing the mixer/mincer is capable of 100kg batches.

Very happy with the trio of machines now. Just got to get them dancing.
Next thing is to build a wet area for the shredder, mixer/mincer and wash trough. Good thing we have a sewer connected wash down bay on the other side of the wall where we can drain all the water.

Haven't been to that part of the NW before and with a short window of opportunity just want to maximise an hour or two of fishing I'm hoping to squeeze in.
Any suggestions?

Mongrel Braid
Submitted by sandbar on Tue, 2016-04-19 07:48Basically anyone got some feed back on this. I see it's cheap which currently is still out of my current unemployed budget but I am seriously considering buying a couple of 500mtr spools. What will deter me is consistent negative feedback so please if you have used or are using this please give feedback. I am still new to braid so things like castability, fluffing up, knot strenght and whatever else would be good to know.
Cheers.
A couple pics added that have been sent to me.

Deep drop sinkers
Submitted by GGs on Mon, 2016-04-18 10:32Hey guys
This is one for all the deep drop guns out there. Im off to exy in just over a month and keen to have a go at the rubys.
I have some 50mm round bar that i intend to cut into sections for sinkers but i have no idea on what weight i need?
Has anyone done this before with round bar and if so what weights do you use? I wouldnt mind making up a few different sizes for depth ie. 100-150m and 200-300m.
Cheers

Jurien Bay Navigation
Submitted by clayd on Mon, 2016-04-18 09:32Don't know how to insert a picture in a reply, so decided to create a new post. Hope it helps everyone navigate safely when at Jurien. This is general overview of areas to avoid in Jurien on a 2 - 2.5m swell.
Need to exercise caution in 2m plus swell through Middle passage, and wouldn't recommend it over 2.5m. Tip: note how the channel markers are just slightly out of alignment when going through middle passage. This is really helpful when navigating in the dark.
South passage is ok, but over 3m it can start breaking through the navigation markers.
Following the leads through the north passage is fine up to about 4m, after that it does start to stand up and break. Don't know why you'd want to be out in a 4m+ swell anyway unless you're surfing.
Obviosuly this is just a general guide and based on my years up there. Up to you to study the charts before you go and make your own decision.

Kimberleys's Advice!
Submitted by Bodie on Mon, 2016-04-18 08:04Well, Scano and I and a couple others are putting together some ideas for planning a trip well north next year, and given none of us have been that far north was hoping the good people in the fishwrecked community can help with many unknowns we have. Our aim is tp spend a reasonable amount of time chasing Barra, jacks, muddy's, basically spend pleenty of time in the creeks, then spend a few days out in the blue chasing other northern species.
At this stage we are looking at taking 2 tinny's, 1 is a 4.6m side console, other is a 4.7m i think. Both very new
We are looking at heading to either Derby and surrounds, or Kunanurra and Whyndham. for 2-3 weeks from Perth. Derby is obviously fishing the fitzroy and Whymdham and Kunanarra will be the Ord, king river etc.
Few questions I've got for those who have been up to both places, live up there or are heading up there in the near future.
1. Whats the best time of year for Barra. From the research I've done, it looks like there are 2 times a year where generally the barra are at their most active. The run off and the start of the wet. Would i be correct in saying the run off is around March and the first wet is in September / October?
2. We plan on staying in towns mostly (wont be spending thr whole time off road), whats the accommodation like in Derby / Whyndham and Kunanarra? Most likely caravan parks / chalets etc.
3. Sand flies, are they likely to be an issue? (Not an issue for me, they dont seem to affect me) however Scano will get eaten alive!
4. roads, whats the roads up there like, especially between Derby and Kunanarra? We wont be taking the gibb river road, will go inland.
5. Places to fish on the way. Looking between Derby and Kunanarra and whymdam, are there rivers which hold barra?
6. Blue water fishing. Derby has King sound, whats the fishing like in there? Water conditions, whats it like travelling up the sound towards open water? Are there other boat ramps or places to launch around Derby?
7. Blue water fishing. Whyndham has Cambridge gulf, again whats the fishing like in the Gulf? Looking over the charts both King sound in Derby and the Cambridge gulf, its long distances to get out of these waters, any info on travelling up them?
Thats a few questions to get me started, anything anyone else can think of, want to add, need to know information would be greatly appreciated. Obviously crocs are also to be wary of up there!
Thanks
Bodie

mooring in tidal areas
Submitted by roddo on Sun, 2016-04-17 20:58Hi all
Just after some advice on mooring when its tidal. Its going to be my first time mooring the boat and i want to sleep well at night so need some advice. How does everyone do it? heading to the monties and when we are there the tides are around the 2m mark and i have heard they can run pretty fast so how do i ensure it doesnt go anywhere its a 7.5m ally that weights close to 3T.
Im thinking normal anchor out the front then rear possibly to a star picket or a burried anchor and is it worth putting another anchor over the side with a few meters of rope out as a just in case or is this over kill. How tight should the ropes be do they need to be quite slack to allow for the rise/fall of the tide.
Cheers

Jurien Bay when the swells up
Submitted by sstevee on Sun, 2016-04-17 19:25Hey guys
I'm heading to Jurien Bay tomorrow till Thursday and taking my 4.75m quinnie bayhunter with me. Unfortunately the swell isnt looking the best for the next few days and as it's my first time up there I was hoping to get some advice on the place. Is it possible to fish inside the islands with a 2m swell or will it still be too lumpy out there for us?
I've done a search and from what I understand as soon as there's a swell we should not be going south out of the marina and head north if the swell isn't too big. We haven't got any spots so we will be winging it and if we get a window will try in close behind the islands.
Also, I've been on to the Jurien Bay Sea Rescue sight and they state that they are still using 27Mhz and just wanted to confirm this was the case? Will be taking a hand held VHF regardless.
Thanks and apologies for another Jurien Bay thread.
