Just hooked into something BIG at Quinns Rocks dog beach...
Submitted by Brickie33 on Sat, 2012-10-27 20:26Ok so 3 hours ago I was at Quinns dog beach when something took my bait and proceeded to take nearly 300 metres of my line, stopping every now and then but generally not letting me take any in before going again. Felt very powerful, it jumped twice and the guy with me thought it looked around the seven feet mark. played it for around 1/2 hour before it came in slightly and bit through my 50lb mono leader, game over! Does anyone have any idea as to what that could have been? Cheers guys

Difference between jigging rods and bottom bashing rods
Submitted by Cameron71 on Fri, 2012-10-26 22:14Can anyone help me out with this? I'm pretty sure that the jigging rods tend to be shorter and they have a parabolic action. Not sure why that is. The bottom bashing rods are.... different - but how exactly and why?

Cheap Custom Fishing Shirts
Submitted by Matt_020 on Fri, 2012-10-26 09:02Hey Guys
I have just been in the process of getting a few shirts made up for an Exmouth trip. I have found a guy over east who was really easy to deal with and a lot cheaper than everywhere else I looked for custom shirts ($100 +). They are screen printed shirts on your standard sort of long sleeve collared fishing shirts in your polyester quick dry breathable material and worked out to be about $50 delivered to your door. Might be a good way to make that next trip a bit more special for that price.
I am still waiting on arrival so will let you know what they are like when they arrive but as I said has all been very professional and everything sent through looks great so am expecting good things :).
If you want to get in contact with him his name is Gary and

boating busso
Submitted by roganjosh on Fri, 2012-10-26 07:44Hi Everyone,
I have had a post running recently about getting a new boat. I had some great advice.
Just wondering though, for around the Busselton area what size boat would you think is best. I already have a little 4.20m Dory which does the job, but after something a little bigger.
Is a 4.75 adequate or do people think go for 5.00 - 5.50m

Garden island fishing
Submitted by rosobr on Thu, 2012-10-25 20:32Newbie boat owner, and have been fishing in cockburn sound the last couple of months. Planning on heading west of GI for the first time this weekend. thinking of targeting sand whiting etc... Along sepia depression. How safe is this region? I've heard waves break behind the island - any areas to avoid, or be wary of?
Any other suggestions for a good feed of whiting, squid, flathead etc in this area?
what about FFB this time of year?
Heading out in a 5.2m runabout

Beach Fishing combo?
Submitted by Rubber Chicken on Thu, 2012-10-25 12:26
G'day all, so I'm in need of a new beach fishing combo as my previous set was stolen!
so what are some beach fishing combos all you would recommend? I'm looking for something strong enough to catch decent sized fish like mulloway, salmon, small sharks, ect.. but at the same time something with a sensitive tip, to pick up smaller bites so that catching the 'smaller' species like chopper tailor, small snapper, soapies..ect is still a lot of fun...i'm looking for something light, so it's not so tireing when you'reo n those long all-nighters, so i'm opting for graphite.. I'll mainly be fishing metro beaches, and occasionally might head down south for the Salmon run...I have a budget of $500.. i know I'm pretty choosy! but believe me all advice will be much appreciated. currently i'm looking at the Shimano Aero Wave graphites, they seem like decent rods for a reasonable price, matched with maybe a 4000+ size reel i was thinking the Shimano Stradic Ci4 (i'm a bit of a Shimano addict)...though i think that may be a bit small...anyway so what would you all recommend? :)
Cheers
Rubber Chook
P.S. My first post here, only just joined.. so be gentle! ;)

Furious!
Submitted by CraigSpedding on Wed, 2012-10-24 19:51Take my reel to a store after work to get new braid on, take it for a flick to realize the spool had been damaged in the machine. Heading up to exmouth and wondering if it's worth taking my set net, is there anywhere I can set it LEGALLY, iv had a look at the fisheries rules but they seem a bit ambiguous just as they like them to confuse you!
Any advise on where to set a net would be great
