Shark Shield Users and Sceptics
Submitted by Cjsurf on Thu, 2012-10-18 21:09Article Here - http://www.swellnet.com.au/news/3228-new-video-shows-electronic-shark-shields-don-t-work
Video Here - http://video.adelaidenow.com.au/2288709813/Shark-repellent
Interesting read, general gist is shark shield does nothing to a hungry shark...
although results can be deemed unfair as the regular shark shield user may not be swimming/srfing/diving in tuna oil and flesh..
Heard many things about shark shields i know id never get one and id be wary of surfing around people with em as have heard sharks are intrigued by the electro field and come in closer to check em out putting everyone else in hot water but thats my opinion and im sure at least one of you will disagree.
any success stories / reasons supporting it i would love to hear ? and i dont mean the electric shock you get when you touch the f-in thing as people i know have told me when they wipeout they get eletrocuted aha

OH Reel advice
Submitted by Cameron71 on Thu, 2012-10-18 20:35Did a little deal with Hesh as a result of which the Torsa 20 off my jigging master power spell PE 4-8 is now his.
I need a replacement. Thinking about a talica or saltiga (not sure which saltiga). I will mostly bottom bash with the odd pretense at knowing something about jigging. No deep drops. Don't like fishing any deeper than 100m if I can help it.
I need something with grunt but lighter than the Torsa.
What does everyone think?

good day out today (thursday)
Submitted by fisho-ron on Thu, 2012-10-18 17:56with no work booked in for today, me and my 2 boys headed out for a sambo bash...what better than no work, nice weather and some big sambos to play with.
blake had never caught anything on a jig or placcy before so it was great to see his first drop with the pink mcarthy get smashed, this thing ended up bricking him after a 5min battle with some huge runs.
rig up again with another mcarthy and bang...on again...not as big but his first fish on a placcy

back down again and he is on again, this is like the first one and pulling hard with some blisstering runs on the pe1-3 and stradic 5000
blake loaded up on the pe1-3

the end result, pb on a placcy for blake, 25kg+ and nearly 1.5mtrs long, the pic dose not do it justice..blake is 6ft tall and the fish still looks big,
he struggled to pic the bloody thing up.

some good fish inbetween with the majority this big, along with tripple hookups on more than 1 occasion

troys biggen for the day

my biggen for the day

last drop of the day and this nice size baldy comes up..spewin...but at least i know were he is now...lol

all in all a great day out with some arms getting a work out and blake getting the biggest for the day on the lightest rod as well.
cant wait to get out there again!!
cheers

Supertrawler Update
Submitted by madfisher on Thu, 2012-10-18 15:20Just saw this on facebook looks like Seafish still want to persist with the supertrawler:
BREAKING NEWS - SUPERTRAWLER Could Go Fishing,
Seafish Tasmania are seeking to have the supertrawler "reclassified" to avoid the government's recently announced fishing ban on supertrawlers. When is a supertrawler not a supertrawler?
We'll keep you posted on any developments. Share this as we may need some action to stop this monster AGAIN!

Cobalt Blue Marine – great job done
Submitted by Ben Derecki on Thu, 2012-10-18 09:04We’re getting our boat ready to sell and needed some gel coat chips repaired. There were a few tricky bits up around the bow sprit, some on the hull and quite a large one right down underneath.
Cobalt Blue (site sponsor) did a great job, the price was good, turnaround time prompt and we were stoked with the finished product.
Check them out if you need something similar done.

opinions on a fishwrecked.com record holder board
Submitted by fisho-ron on Wed, 2012-10-17 21:52hi guys
in chatting with adam in regards to improvement ideas, how would you guys feel about having a permanent record holders board?
THIS IS NOT A COMP, nothing to win, it could be your name on the board for many years to come!! thats it.
remembering this is an online thing, it would have to be done on length only with pics submitted to prove the length, similar to the photo comps we have held previously.
this can be for any fish, any where as long as you are a member, you can submit any pics from anyone, but the person submitting the pic is the record holder.
there would be a record board set up and it would be added to/updated as the pics come in, we need to keep it as simple as possible, with only the basic info submitted and only your user name as the record holder.
there can be a pic of the record holder and the catch so there is something visual to see as well, or maybe no pics and just the details on the board????
below is a sample and I would like to get some input from members, it would of course be prettied up to look a lot better, like in a spread sheet or something, but that would need some one with pc skills and thats not me...lol
FISHWRECKED.COM RECORD HOLDERS
SPECIES LENGTH LOCATION LURE/BAIT ANGLER DATE
pink snapper 70cm Rottnest squid fisho-ron 17/8/2001
samson 110cm Jurien Bay jig Adam Gallash 23/12/2012
squid (hood) 30cm Cockburn Sound $2 jig star304 8/8/2009
this is one i did on the pc, tried to upload it but it went haywire and the top of this post is the result.

it would be nice to get some feed back on this so adam can decide if its worth while or not.
any ideas to add or change will be great, but keep it simple so any dummy can do it.
cheers ron

Exmouth inner reffs
Submitted by Gav475 on Wed, 2012-10-17 18:55Heading to Exy in 2 weeks with the boat, 475 Quinny. I was thinking of targeting the inner reefs around Tantabiddi from South passage to north of north passage. Havent had the boat in there before and was wondering about the navagability and passages around the area. Have a large laminated chart of the area and lowrance gps with gold card but would love to hear from experienced blokes who have been in this area before as it looks pertty shallow and gnarly. Cant beat experience and as I will have the missus on board my life wouldnt be worth living if I bumped into something !!

GoPro WiFi Underwater use
Submitted by paulsmez on Wed, 2012-10-17 13:45I think I saw a post where someone said they were going to try towing a GoPro + WiFi unit behind a boat to watch live footage of fish striking lures on an iPad with the GoPro app.
I thought this sounded like a great idea but wasn't sure if it would work so I emailed GoPro. They just replied to say it won't transmit underwater.
Just letting anyone that ight have been intending to purchase it with the same intention.
Cheers,
Smez.

Fishing shirts for kids ?
Submitted by Dan on Wed, 2012-10-17 09:38Hi All,
I'm taking my young bloke up north in a few weeks for a camping/fishing trip.
Whilst not the greatest fashion statement - the columbia style long sleeve, vented, collared shirts I believe are a must have when fishing long hours in the sun. I wear them religiously
Been looking for some small ones for my son - with very little success !! - have checked most of the chain stores; but no luck
anyone seen them anywhere, or suggest somewhere to look ? need sizes 5-6
cheers

fishing
Submitted by nicmaddogg on Tue, 2012-10-16 19:23Hi,
me and a mate hit up the ocean today n went out for some fishing. As the ban for demersal fish is on, our main targets were King George. We tried a few spots only to be hasseled with wrasse so we thought we would try find some new ground.
We found some good structure about 20kms off mindarie and started fishing. In quick succession we hooked up to 3 big Baldchin Groper. Spewin the ban was on coz we hadnt tasted a BG before.
Few undersize pinkies n BA.
Got searched by fisheries when we got in so dont be silly and try and hide a catch coz they will get you.
Good day in the end
Keep those lines wet
Cheers

82% say no
Submitted by Fish guts on Tue, 2012-10-16 18:4682% of the public say no to culling great whites. I know it has been talked about previously in FW. But seriously I wonder how the FW society would vote. Personally I have never seen one in the flesh and therefore never had a reason to want to destroy one. But I support the program to cull them. I don't think they are an indanged species anymore. And with the recent loss of human life and their more noted agressive behaviour it would be interesting to know your thoughts.

Boat and Land base Fishing in Esperance
Submitted by Newy25 on Tue, 2012-10-16 17:13Guys,
Recently joined fishwrecked, and have picked up some useful info already. I am heading down to Esperance in the first week of December for 8 days with a 24ft boat. Asking for info / suggestions on where to go (not asking for GPS points!) just general areas, as local knowledge or people that have fished there before is always good to know. What fish should we chase at that time of year? If it is too windy - where to go for land based / 4wd fishing?
Any info would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers,
Newy
