1st Flounder
Submitted by Ericl on Sat, 2021-02-27 18:40 Caught this flounder North of Ocean Reef just outside the 3 mile. Was a first for me and wondering if it bwas a reasonable size. Went 45cm on ther brag mat and weight about 875 grams. Not as good eating as I thought it would be. Filleting was easier than I expected. Cheers

Todays efforts
Submitted by dakka on Sat, 2021-02-27 18:15I took my dad out for a fish today ended up being a pretty good day, left pt kenedy ramp at 10 am was a bit sloppy going out, so i stopped at our whiting spot, caught our 30 then headed out as the weather eased off a bit, so we were still in the bite time for today ended up with a nice feed for him to take home, he is 80 and in early stages of Alzheimer's disease
So now i have to cherish these moment's we have together now, will try again tomorrow before he heads back to Northam.

Dunbier Trailers -12 Months wait
Submitted by SpotHound on Sat, 2021-02-27 10:09Went to order a Dunbier trailer and the dealer said minimum 12 months wait, Tezzas has stopped taking orders as cant get parts ex China as well.
Telwater boats are well over 12 months wait depending on model and Jayco caravans are at 18 months out and stopped taking orders.
What is the world coming too !
Also, the chinese model of Dunbier is $500 cheaper, not sure if I would take the risk. Any ideas?

Weekend weather
Submitted by davewillo on Fri, 2021-02-26 18:50What are the thoughts on the weekend weather? Trying to decide whether or not to go to GI for the weekend from Hillarys. Looking pretty breezy so not sure it'll be too comfortable on a mooring.

Live bait tank
Submitted by biggerfish on Mon, 2021-02-22 02:28Photo of cheap live bait tank I made with rubbish bin 18mm Polly pipe with lots of small spray holes. Just run it off the deck wash or water pick up while moving. Overflow hole on opposite side of tap with hose that hangs overboard.

Gear for Denham
Submitted by Jackfrost80 on Sun, 2021-02-21 10:03My oldest boy is begging me to take him to Exmouth but I don't have the ability to tow the boat up that far and we've settled on Shark Bay and are aiming for June and staying in Denham. Hopefully I'll be able to chuck a few carcases in the town bin
The heaviest combo I have is my PE 3 Type J with 5000 Biomaster and a PE 3-4 Monster Mesh with an 8000 Stradic. Lachie has a bulletproof 15-24kg Penn Mariner with Penn 850.
Am I going to be outgunned up there?

How To Catch Mahi Mahi at the FAD's
Submitted by K_willo on Wed, 2021-02-17 14:55If you've been on social media you've seen the FAD's have been firing lately with some seriously good size fish caught. I actually broke my PB twice this week with solid bulls on stickbaits, its been unreal.
I've received a lot of questions every time I've posted a pic or video so I thought I'd collate those questions into a 'How To'. This was all filmed last season but the info is all still current.
If you've considered heading out for the first time this could be a huge help.
It's a long one, maybe grab a beverage and I promise there's some good fishing at the end.

Possession limit decrease, part deux
Submitted by scotto on Mon, 2021-02-15 19:36The last thread is getting a bit long to follow.
For what it’s worth, I completed the recfishwest survey, and made every answer clear I was against a limit drop, and sharks were a bigger problem than overfishing. I also remember hearing (on 882/6PR’s fishing programme) that the response to the survey was “an overwhelming NO to a limit decrease”. So much for that aye...
So where to now with the new possession limits? From what I can ascertain, they will almost certainly be bought in state-wide, not just shark bay. That should be interesting when fishing down south, where the majority of kept fish is demersal. I am sincerely hoping that one way or another, shark number reductions are on the agenda, as per recfishwest’s proposal in their statement.
Some valid points bought up in other threads/forums, including BJ’s remarks about continual erosion of our rights and limits. I couldn’t agree more. Also how much science/research went into this proposed change?? We are 10 years into a 20 year programme to monitor/assess fish stocks and catches in WA, so why bring in such a huge reduction halfway, based on hearsay from a bunch of mungbean green locals?
Formula 233’s post potentially has all the ammo we need to start moving against this proposal, especially about it being our resource - “The fishing resources of Western Australia are owned by the people of Western Australia - not the pollies, the fisheries etc. - the People OWN the Resource and the guardians are there to manage it - FOR US!”
Dodgey also made a mint point, will pros get the same reduction?
Anyway, I think with a local election happening soon, the iron is hot to start making noises to stop the whole shebang. Feel free to jot down a quick 2 or 3 line email opposing the changes, basing it on science, highlighting other important issues (like shark reductions), etc, and copy/paste/send to recfishwest, local members, fisheries, minister tinley, friends, post it on facey, etc, etc. with enough noise and airtime, it will gain traction real quick, and media will start picking up on it.

Submitted by Shinks on Mon, 2021-02-15 16:34Hey fellow Fishwreckers,
I'm a newly joined member - and long time lurker as Mick C once described it. I have referred to a lot of useful advice on Fishwrecked over the years, given by people with more experience and fishing ability than myself. I figured it was time to get off my arse and make a contribution. I have met Swompa once before at Woodman Pt. Embarrassingly enough, it was because of a flat battery issue (lesson learned). I mostly fish out of Hillary's (local ramp) in a Southwind SF20, with my 2 youngest boys who are both fishing nuts. I also have to admit to regularly following the football banter on here with a grin. I have a couple of trips up North planned in the next 2 months, so hopefully I will have some pics to post and something to write about. Have attached a pic from a good day out around Rotto a few weeks ago with the boys. Apologies if I've done it wrong.
Cheers
Shinks.

Metro marlin
Submitted by resurgence on Mon, 2021-02-15 14:19Perth Game Fishing Club ran the Marlin Cup over the weekend just gone (13th/14th). It turned out to be a great tournament.
Overall 23 boats managed to raise 13 marlin, hooked up 11 and tagged 5. Four blue marlin and one striped marlin.
With good looking water and good weather over the coming months now is the time to have a crack at it.

More grunt please
Submitted by Silver Fox on Sat, 2021-02-13 20:12Here's the score. I'm up enjoying life on Thursday Island with my little 4.2m Stessco dingy with a 30hp Yammie two banger on the back until the big duck arrives in October after the windy season dies down. It's a sweet little rig when you're one up yet she lacks a little oooomph when you're two up and dealing with the tidal flows.
Taking a leaf out of the locals books I need to over power the fuck out of it me thinks....... There's some weird and wacky looking boats up here to say the least. The best I've seen so far has been a 5m open boat with Zook 140 tiller steer. This thing was moving that fast it made my want to wet my pants with excitement. Most of the smaller ally boats ( sub 5m ) seem to be running 50-70hp two or four stroke configurations, the common denominator being tiller steer with all of them still in one piece despite being driven like they're stolen.
Taking a walk on the wild side what would you be strapping on the back?.
Please don't turn this into a discussion on the whether or not the builders plate or insurance company says it can be done. Up here there seems to be no rules whatsoever when it comes to the horsepower v boat size game. It's more of a let's throw caution to the wind and have some fun.
Any suggestions?.
