The complete fisher must be able to:
Submitted by crasny1 on Wed, 2012-02-01 07:39Something had me thinking. The Mrs always argue with me about who catches the most fish. Well she does have a touch I have to admit. But when she tries the line who is the best fisher, I fight back, because I tie all the rigs. She knows how to, but claim she cant see.
Not picking on her started me thinking what it does take to be a complete angler and I thought I might just see what sort of list can be created:
Might start with:
1. Have an appreciation and respect for the environment that the angler fish in.
I wonder what else may end up on the list.

Lowrance GPS plotter query
Submitted by Tandawg on Wed, 2012-02-01 07:06Hi all Lowrance owners,
I have a 2006 Dash mount Lowrance GPS and was wondering if the cursor (boat) on the plotter/map screen can be reduced in size. The reason being it is quite a large triangular shape compared with the size of the waypoint icon. Or similarly, is there a way of increasing the size of the waypoint icon?
Hope all this makes sense.
Thanks in advance
Chris

PROs netting ManduraH
Submitted by meglodon on Tue, 2012-01-31 21:54I have just been made aware that there is a pro netting licence up for sale in the mandurah estuary with no restrictions on species or T A C what a sell out by fisheries. All the talk of buying back licences etc was just a snow jow to falsley keep the rec fishers in the mandurah of their case. First thing tommorrow I'm going to be in Kim's office and give him a piece of my mind about the trechory that is about to be done. I believe that Recfish west sat down with the pros association and had a gentlmans agreement that there would not be any increases in the amout of pros fishing the estuary system. What has happened to the buying back of licences by Dof using the funds from the money rec fishermen put into DoFs kitty.
I ask all members in the Mandurah area to get into Kim Hames office and give him a good serve the businesses in mandurah should take note of this day that will be recorded as a day of treachory by DoF. It will be interesting to see just how much raping and pilaging of the fish stocks will be done by whoever buys this licence when the local shops start bto notice trade dropping off because people won't stop at mandurah to do a bit of fishing from bridges etc because there is no fish it will all be to late. Locals, when you go into a shop now ask them what are they going to do when it becomes known that there is no limit on the amount and type of fish that can be caught with this licence. To recfishwest members get your association to get into the deputy premiers wax ie Kim Hames who has an office in falcon

Are flathead spines poisonous?
Submitted by randall df223 on Tue, 2012-01-31 18:13I caught a juvenile last week out between Hillarys and Rotto, and the lil bugger spiked me while I was getting the hook out. He only just got me but it hurt like hell for about 30 minutes afterwards, throbbing to the point of that sick feeling you get sometimes.
Are they poisonous?

Jurien Bay in rough weather
Submitted by dkonig82 on Tue, 2012-01-31 12:16Hey
I have (non-refundable) accomodation booked for Jurien Bay this weekend. Was planning to get out fairly wide and troll for makkies.
Unfortunately the weather is looking bloody awful, and odds of me getting out where I wanted to go are looking slim at best, without me recreating scenes from 'Deadliest Catch'.
I know the forecast may improve between now and then, but if it doesn't, does anyone have experience fishing inside the Bay itself during rough weather?
Just wondering what it is like there. If it is like Cockburn sound, then I'm happy to fish it almost irrespective of what the weather is, but given the size of the bay was thinking it probably gets a great deal rougher.
Any help much appreciated, as if the Bay isnt a decent option, I may well just forget the boat and take the Mrs up for a weekend away!
Cheers
Dan

Swan River supprise
Submitted by GrahamM on Tue, 2012-01-31 11:01
Last Day of the school holidays today for the Kids and I'm on an afternoon shift. So the kids had hit me up yesterday to take them fishing and My Brother was visiting so along with the wives and kids this morning we thought we would get down the river and try for a few bream. Keen little ones so Uncle Graham up early after a late shift yesterday and made bacon and egg sandwiches for all as we met up at my house. Fishing Gear in the car Kids talked all the way down the river (ended up near Bandiup women's prison).
The Dog the keenest to get out and have a run once we got there . Dad setting up the rods and not even close to quick enough for the kids Heath first in fished hard for 1 1/2 hours for no reslut Jackson pretty much the same although he did catch a snag and pull up some line so off to the bin with that and I cast out while he was gone and much to his suprise when he came back from the bin I had a nice 25cm Bream ( the only one caugh ). We did see lots of fish jumping just not soo interested in the Prawns. Austin fished the whole time too but he did no better. As for my Brother his wife and their kids the only caught the tree branches over head.
Then i said to the kids time to go as i have to go to work and Jackson said hang on Dad i Have got something, I said ya righty oh Just hurry up its time to go Then DDAD DAD its a Turtle
and much to my and all of our suprise he was Right. Sorry no Pic of the Bream couldnt be bothered going and getting the camera but when Jackson got this i though it was defenatly worth sharing.

Hooks out and he swam off no worries

Pinkies in the swan? Confirmed!!
Submitted by ealzee on Tue, 2012-01-31 07:56Went down to my river hot spot last night and i can tell ya the fish are firing again in the swan. Will post a report but first i have to confirm that there are pink snapper in the river. I've heard they are in there but like most stories i need hard evidence for it to convince me. Well there are pinkies in the river!! We caught about 4 around the 25 to 30cm mark. Stunning looking fish

Cervantes Boat Salvage
Submitted by clay on Mon, 2012-01-30 23:19My sister took these photo's on the weekend from the salvage effort for the cat that ran aground a couple of weeks ago. The thing is trashed.
Got to feel sorry for the bloke. Losing your boat is bad enough. Can't believe the comments that someone's tagged on the hull. Bit like kicking a guy when he's down IMO. What do you reckon?

sharks and spearguns
Submitted by jutt on Mon, 2012-01-30 21:52Gday all, not long back home after 8 great days in Exmouth, love the place. First time with the boat there, a boaters paradise, also it seems a shark paradise as is here in Ktha. Had a very interesting chat to a fella from the DEC, said some studdies they have done there have been showing sharks are getting a bit rough with the divers. He said they have been firing spearguns without spears and timing how long it takes for the men in grey suits to arrive, they are tuned in to the sound or vibration and get a bit excited. I however firmly believe that sharks are attracted to the sound of a df150 on the back of a certain Coraline i know, talk about fish for the future, I fed the buggers for 8 days!..cheers.
