Herring Bay Tomorrow?
Submitted by Swan River Fisher on Wed, 2012-01-25 15:13Probably heading to Herring Bay tomorrow for Aussie Day. Anyone else going tot be there?
Only problem is, we've never navigated in the bay before by ourself safely (have followed boats in there before, or gone by memory and hit the bottom! LOL),but got GPS and Charts etc. I've heard there are new markers there.
If you see a white Trophy and a guy holding a 50kg Mack you'll know its me! haha

Fishing alone?
Submitted by Righteo on Wed, 2012-01-25 07:29Hey i've noticed alot of you guys guys seek deckies on here but what im wondering is do many of you still fish solo?
I invited my bro out for a trip to the fads/derwent and a troll along west end this arvo and after doing it was thinking i would rather fish alone (more room for my gear) and then this morning when i rang him he bailed on me so im now stoked, big day out just my own thoughts rattling through my empty head few beers and a big blue ocean as my playground.
Metro mackie your mine this year!

who is going out boat fishing tomorrow?
Submitted by glastronomic on Tue, 2012-01-24 16:19Weather is good and it will be hot, so anybody who is having a fish tommorow, just before the almighty rush on Thursday?
It should be nice and calm at the ramps and the water, but Thursday, Friday and the wewekend will be very bussy with lotsa boats venturing out.
If there is a member who wants to join me tomorow, normal deckie rules and leaving from OR marina on Gentlemen's hours as today I hooked onto a few (2)Mackies but due to being on my own and close to a reef had to let them go, then PM me as all my normal crew are earning the last crusts for this week, sadly!

Albany fishing trip (Edit - dropped the Margaret River idea)
Submitted by AlwaysFishin on Tue, 2012-01-24 13:56For my r n r this week I'm heading to Albany for 2 or 3 nights. I'm going to be landbased and I have a swag and 4 x 4. I would prefer to keep to beach fishing where I can set up the swag. I've never been to Albany before so any advice on baits, locations and target species would be appreciated.

Drag Upgrades
Submitted by BOOMER on Tue, 2012-01-24 13:13Does anyone know where to get drag washers for Pfluger reels have done a few searches but end up going round in circles. Sambos have smoked my torsion 60`s drag, it`s a nice strong reel so if i can put a drag kit through it i can keep on thrashing it.
Cheers boomer

Scalies at e shed lately??
Submitted by scano on Mon, 2012-01-23 20:18Hi guys,
Been crook for the past couple of days so no chance to wet a line over the last week or so.
With Thursday being a public holiday I was thinking of heading to e shed Wednesday night to try and stock up on baits.
Anyone had much luck on the Scalies there lately?
I know they are nearly always at the ammo jetty but not a big fan of getting my car window smashed.
If someone could shoot a quick reply just to let me know if I am wasting my time trying there this week or not then I would appreciate it.

what to get for a fishaholic?
Submitted by sarey on Mon, 2012-01-23 18:08so my man is a fish fanatic.
i have a few ideas already for what to get him. but i'd really like to hear about some other ideas for what might be a great birthday present.
last year, i bought him a fishing charter, he couldnt sleep all night, being too excited, but the day for fish was poor.
so charters in perth are off the list. also because he has friends who can take him nowadays.
any good ideas? :D

Australia Day
Submitted by Fraser 5.25 on Mon, 2012-01-23 18:07Well I went down to the local tackle shop in Rockingham and got myself some bait supplies for Thursday, even though it'll be a scorcher. But pickings were on the slim side with the bait freezer being a bit barer than normal. Maybe everyone has beaten me to it so it's time to try out the Blue Mackeral for bait instead of the usual. Bring on Thursday.

Lesson Learnt
Submitted by Pembo on Mon, 2012-01-23 16:18I have recently moved house and my proximity to the beach now means that I can sneak down for fish once young kids go to bed.
I have only recently gotten into fishing (from my limited exposure at Rotto and and cottesloe Groin as a kid) so I went down and bought a new little flick rod and was talked into getting some braid (15lb). I thought "Damn that braid was expensive" until I started using it for tailor fishing. It does make a difference!!
I then thought I will pull out the old beach rod and buy some 40lb braid and throw it out while I am fishing with my flick rod. Being a tight arse I went to the internet to find some cheap braid. 500 meters of 40lb braid for $35....what a bargain (so I thought).
On saturday night I was down at floreat drain and my beach rod took of. I had set the drag with little resistance and line was peeling of for about 15 seconds. Then the line snaps. I bring it in and the braid has abrassion marks on about a 1.5 meter length before the break. Admittedly my mono leader was only about 1 meter long but I thought it was all sand out there.
I am working on the assumption (apart from being a shit fisherman) that I got what I paid for when I only spent $35 on the line. So its off to buy some better braid this week.
If I am way off line with my way of thinking then please correct me.
Cheers
Pembo
