Shark Bay next week yewwww!!

 Hey FW ers,

This time next week will be camping up at Francois Nat. Park with the family. For a week, just wondering if anyone has driven the track up there lately? How is it? Been there a few times now, but never at this time of the year. Hopefully the salt pans are nice and dry.

Cheers

Chris

Exmouth land based spinning

Hi guys, stopping over in Exmouth tomorrow for the afternoon/ night before we leave for the montebellos on Sunday morning, just curious if it's worth throwing some lures around for trevally/queenies from the beach/jetty for an couple of hours? If it's not worth it I won't unpack the rods but is there anywhere that I have a chance of something?

cheers

Bertram 25

Currently have a Fury 28, looking at selling to free up some cash and investing a portion of the funds into a Bertram 25 alongside a couple of mates. Thinking single diesel power and call it gut feel, but would likely prefer an older school proven engine design as opposed to a new age, unproven highly stressed diesel that you need a computer to fix.

Application will be largely billfishing up north (trailered up) a couple of times a year, and fishing/diving off perth, few trips out the trench a year and overnight at Rotto.

Key attractions of a Bertie 25 for me are; proven sea keeping ability and robust hull construction, fuel economy, service ourselves, appears to be good bang for buck.

Open to either a tidy ready to go option or repowering an old clapped out boat and spending 6 months in the shed with some elbow grease. We have 12 months to be patient and hunt out a good deal.

Anybody have experience with repowering a Bertram 25, or experience as a fishing/diving boat, general feedback?

Cheers,

Friday Funnys

land based skippy

hi guys, does anyone know any good spots for skippy around kwinana to fremantle? i would be using bait or micro jigs. thanks

Yellow Object

Yesterday while burleying on the 3 mile I had a large yellow object move under and past the boat. It left a large blotch on the sounder and did not hang around for long. At first I thought big shark but not sure what large shark would be yellow. The were a few skippy around and my only conclusion was that it was a large and tightly packed school of skippy but then I've never seen skippy just school up on move along like that especially since there were allot of burley in the water.

Any one else have some thoughts on that that could have been I keep thinking about it?

PS I did not have an alcohol on board :-)

How low will your tranny go?

Third go at the transducer install on my Dragonfly.

First location had me getting ground to about 15 knots, ONLY with two people in the back of the boat, but 6 knots with one person.

Second spot (attached) had the ground up to 9 knots regardless of where people were.

Third spot is on the flat spot just to the left. It is deep down with the bottom of the base plate sitting on the bottom of the hull. I will try this setup tomorrow.

I want to get this right as I have trouble finding ground and covering distance. 10 knots is a two hour trip to Rotto.....ain't nobody got time for that.

Am I on the right track?

Be careful Fri 26/06 Huge Swell

Just read an article on WA Today, apparenty there is a forecast for huge swell around tomorrow. Be careful out there.

"A wave period - the time for two consecutive crests to pass a fixed point - is roughly 14 seconds, but this swell could see periods of between 18 and 20 seconds.

"This will make for some really big sets. The kind where I'd expect to see jet-skis out on the water towing surfers in" he said.

All coastal areas in the South West are expected to see significant swell before the size starts to weaken as it moves up the coast towards Jurien Bay and Carnarvon.

The cause of the huge waves is a deep low in the Indian Ocean which saw storm-force winds of up to 200km/h earlier in the week generate the swell which is headed towards the WA coast."

Rompin sailfishing

hi all,

Off to Rompin next week and was wondering of those who have been there before how did you get from KL to  Rompin and what company did you contact to arrange the transfer.

Been to KL many times for work, so know the place pretty well but the websites do not give much info on transfers to and from Rompin

cheers

Abrolhos 2016

Tiger Shark, any good on the tooth ?

smashed out at lunchtime yesterday as conditions were too good to pass up,

left hillarys and headed slightly north to a spot near the shelf were we managed a few baldies last time

was very quite and kept persiting on the same drift patturn for a few hours dropping cubes along the way.

then my rod buckled over n it was on , thinking this was the 15kg duey i have been waiting for all of my life

but this thing didnt want to give up , then my mind was leaning towards a stinking shark.

once we saw some colour and got him up turned out to be a 2mtr Tiger that just didnt want to give up.

after many runs and half an hour fighting i gave up and snapped the rig at the side of the boat so he can live to fight another day

but i do want to know, do they taste like shit or are they ok on the tooth if bled striaght away and eaten fresh ?

cheers steve

Winch cable or winch rope

I snapped my winch cable today retreiving my 21ft Cobia on my electric winch.

I want to know if the winch ropes are any good ( 3000kg rating) or stay with wire.

Any advice would be good.

JM Reels

Hey Lads

Owner Circle Hooks

I was at the Southern end of Rottnest yesterday and got a couple of heavy hits on a standard paternoster rig. After a couple of minutes I'm starting to think big dhui and then I've lost it! I'm using Owner circle hooks on pretty much all my rigs these days with good success but just lately after clearly hooking up and just about to the stage of seeing colour I'm loosing the fish. Have to be doing something wrong but not sure what? I'm not suffering from the habit of trying to bury the hook as you would do with a conventional hook as I'm taking the rod out of the holder after the fish gone for a run.

Cheap Freight To Perth Ex East

 Hi All.

I'm Looking At Buying A Kayak From Victoria Which Would Require Freighting To Perth.

Anyone Know Of Any Cheap Freight Companies That Might Be Able To Give Me A Reasonable Quote Say Around $200-$300?

Kayak Would Likely Weigh Around 50 Kilo All Up And Be 16 Foot Long.

Any Advice Appreciated.

2nd Hand Outboards

Just looking for some advice from the outboard boffins on what I should be looking at for a 5-5.3m fibreglass boat in regard to the outboard?

Ideally I want one that has a recent Yamaha, Suzuki or Honda 4 stroke outboard or an older one with low hours in the 90-115hp range.

If, I found a boat with a 2 stroke that I like what are the pitfalls I should be looking at in regard to age and hours?

New Sounder/Plotter Combo

I have a furuno FCV 620 sounder, chasing a replacement combo. Was looking at furuno combo.(GF1670/GF1870F ) I have a 6m ali and looking at transom mounted transducer if possible. Have read a couple of comments on forums is the Garmin much chop?? Don't want to spend more than 2 grand.

Where Do I Fish Tomorrow?!

Absolutely busting for a fish tomorrow, last exam was today so I have 6 weeks off and want to get straight into it!

Have my 4.6 ali runabout. Garden island might be sloppy with the NE wind so was thinking heading out from fremantle somewhere out from there.

Where would you be heading with the forecast taken into account (10-15 knot NE) ?

Cheers

Steep in. November

have a few bigger trips booked in this year, but couldn't resist still getting up to steep as well, albeit only for a couple of days rather than my normal 10 day session....

heading up up there last week of November for 3 nights / 4 days including travel, as this is the only time I can fit in.

....my question is: what is November like? Is the water usually warm enough for the normal Palagics etc? I've only ever fished steep in jan feb mar and April......I will be shore based at either the fault line or oven, plan to bottom, spin and maybe balloon as per normal.....
