SW salmon

hey I'll be in SW for a few days just wondering where best place to throw some lures for salmon?

Cheers to z00m

We went out from Hillaries yesterday arvo around 2:30 for a fish along the inshore reefs to the south.  Tryed 3-4 spots all of which produced an amazing variety of fish.  We caught between us Skippy, Wrasse, western blue devil fish, discus fish, good sized silver bream, herring on a snelled whole squid(wtf?!), a monster wobby, some other unknown species of shark, undersized pinks and dhuies and a nice fox fish.

Headed back in the evening with a couple of trevally, the fox fish and the silver bream in the esky.  Cracker of a day in my books! No photos as we were to busy catching and the ones we got of the wobby werent very good.

Also saw Murray D back at the ramp and he had a box of my soft plastics jigheads I had left on his boat more than 18 months ago and kept them on the boat and gave them back to me! Score!

Thanks for a top day out!

Does anybody know what type of this this is?

fishing comps

we'd caught a few good fish and as per normal I leave them in the esky to fillet in the morning when the tables arnt busy, filleting away the next morning an old guy rocks up and puts a 30kg + GT on the table,i was gobsmacked he then told me that it was caught in the comp and the person that caught it was throwing it in the bin so he said he would take it for pet food and bait so good on him for that.GT popping is some of the best fishing you can do and a hard fighting fish like that deserves better, denham is home for me and that's pisspoor conduct.

Have I been sold a pup

Tackle World are having a huge Shimano sale at the moment. One of the items they have on sale at a very very low price is Shimano Waxwing lures (all sizes).

Now, looking up the price of some of these lures shows that the same lures are retailing around $25-$28 bucks.

Tackle World is selling these lures at 3 for $10-00.

I rushed down and brought $3 worth. I've had a close look at the packaging, the lures themselves and an original waxwing and I'm damned if I can see any difference. The proof of the pie will come tomorrow when I'll take them down to the estuary and have a play with them.

I have been of the belief that if something appears to good to be true then it probable is just that, to good to be true.

If these lures perform ok tomorrow then I'll be back to get a few dollars more of them.

Now, the big question, has anyone on here experienced anything like this, massive massive reductions on very good products, are they original or faked (and bloody good if they are faked)

Your views are sought.

I must make this very clear. I am not in any way connected to Tackle World what so ever (repeat). They just happen to be the company that has some lures I believe are at a truly good price, but are the lures originals.

Wolfe Lane mahi mahi

Looks pretty cool!

Buying a boat from rural areas

I've been keeping an eye on a fibreglass boat in Albany with a 1998 hull and 2004 motor.

I am still a few grand from making a serious enquiry but when I am thereabouts can anyone offer me advice on how I should make sure it is all above board in regard to hull, outboard and trailer condition before I start talking turkey and look to head down for a look and ocean test?

Hope for Friday night

I'm hoping tomorrow night has the same clear sky but I want it to be less windy! It blew 15 knots all that arvo reaching up to 20 knots into the evening. Of course according to seabreeze, the wind died down to under 10 once I was on the trailer and driving back home! This was Wednesday the 6th.

Thieves

My neighbour caught some bloke stealing tools from a mates ute parked at the front of my house a few nights ago, The lowlife did a runner leaving all tools behind thank god. This arvo I went to charge the battery on the tinny and noticed the fuel line has been disconnected, then saw both the motor clamps on my new outboard were totally undone. Thank god I had two bolts through the transom because they stopped him from getting it off. Take care, the scumbags are always ready to knock gear off.

Best dhui bait ??

paternoster or floating rigs?

How much lead to use for bottom fishing on the cliffs

Hi Guys,

Can I get some guidance from the community with regards to what weight sinkers to use off the cliffs (Quobba/Steep Point) for bottom fishing?

Cheers

Hookem products

Recently I bought a Hookem telescopic landing net.  As the telescopic handle wasnt locking I contacted Hookem to ask whether it was possible to replace the mechanism. Instead, what Mick Woods did was to offer me a new handle as replacement. Now, this he did without asking for proof of purchase and just took me at my word. He gave some advice which actually worked as my handle now locks. So new handle not required. So, thanks Mick for the great customer service!! As for the landing net I cant wait to use it.

Coming to Perth for a fish

Heading down to Perth from Leinster for my first fish in a while and like most of us hoping to have a win. Going to be staying in Midland, so looking at heading to the Reid Highway bridge for a fish or 3. Can anyone tell me if there'll still be bream up that far after the rain? Or should I head a bit further down river. I'm not chasing "secret spots" just wanting to know their movements with the fresh water flush. Used to get a few around Castledare in the Canning but not sure if I'll get the time to head that far though I hope I do because my kids love it there. Am also bringing a larger rod hoping for a bull shark bash at some stage, how far upriver do they go in the cooler months? Or should I just leave the big rod at home? Cheers

18HP Toyhatsu issues. Please help!

Hey fellas,

A few years ago me and my mate bought a 18HP Toyhatsu for out 5m tinny, but here’s the clincher, it’s from 1989. Don't get me wrong though, up until now she has never let us down, still starting on the first few pulls and no real dramas.

Recently though we have been experiencing some issues with the revs, for instance last week we went out in Cockburn sound and fished all the way down to south beach with no problems (going flat stick etc), however on the way back, the engine could not go over 1/4 throttle without over revving with no change in power and have a unusual ‘whiney’ sound, which saw us limping back to the boat ramp - but engine didn't have any issues in low revs.

This is our first boat and obviously have a lot to learn, and admittedly threw ourselves in the deep end in purchasing such an old model motor - which has proven significantly hard to gather information on after hours of research, but I think I have whittled it down to a few factors. Any advice or experience you guys could provide and would be extremely appreciated, which such an older engine it could be anything, but here’s what I’ve got so far.

1. May be the prop is on a rubber bush, and at higher revs the bush slips

2. Shear pin in the drive shaft has sheared

^ We took off the prop and inspected the parts, which looked okay (to our eyes). The guy  who wrote this said if this was the issue that it would be a consistent issue, a.k.a not happening every now and then. However he also said if this was the issue you would be able to spin the prop by hand, which we can easily do?? Researched it and heard conflicting opinions on how free the prop should spin without being turn on

3. Engine vibration: The engine does vibrate more than it should, which first inclined that the prop was the problem and possibly causing parts to become loose? Apparently 18HP Toyhatsu are known for experiencing internal breakage in the ignition coil due to excessive vibration

4. One of the cylinders failing?

5. Fuel starvation due to faulty primer bulb

6. Overheating:  The motor is getting too hot and  ‘pre igniting’ so the high temp of the engine ignites the fuel not the spark plug so you get the engine firing in the wrong sequence

When I was working up North my mate had his friend come and clean the carb, I honestly don't think this guy knew what he was doing so it could need a thorough clean again?

Sorry for the long post, again any advice would be tremendously appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

Matt

Soft Plastics

Hi guys, I'm relatively new to the art of soft plastics fishing. My mate that I go on fishing trips with reckons

that I'm wasting my time, and that they only work on TV. This makes me even more determined to outfish him with soft plastics on our next up and coming trip. We will be fishing the inner reef at tantabiddi. Are there any soft plastics that I should be focusing on for that area. I realise that it's trial and error, but any advice or feedback would be awesome. I've done heaps of homework on retrieving techniques......( good old YouTube). So I should be ok in that department. My collection so far is 6 inch gulp nemesis in nuclear chicken, gulp 5 inch jerk shad in fire tiger and 6 inch white grub. Oh and some slick rigs in drop bear. These are all guesses. Just want to know if I'm on the right track.

Hanging out for any tips

Cheers Fab

Advice- Fishing the Cook Islands/Raratonga

 Hey guys,

Trying to plan a fishing getaway/holiday

Has anyone ever had any experience with the fishing charters in the Cook Islands, can recomend anyone?  Or if theres any other must do's whilst there?

We've got 2 weeks late July early August and have no idea of what to expect.

Cheers,

Jess.

32 oz sinker conversion.

Got a Lee 1oz 12 guage slug mold, first try at casting and very happy with the results. Made about 200 slugs from old sinkers then found a supply of lead sheeting for $2 a kilo from salvage yard in Osbourne park so I got 20kg. They shoot very well and will be even better when I get a scope fitted on my old single barrel shotgun ( H&R Pardner model). 440G slugs yeeha,

Lost a few sinkers the other day so I made a mold from a tray of slightly damp brickies sand and a few handfulls of cement in a baking tray,(the sand stays loose- try at your own risk! - always worked fine for me), smacked it down with a brick and pressed a 6oz star sinker into it to make 6 molds. Used some twisted coat hanger for the attachment loop. Worked very well.

Regards anypuddle.

South Australian Fisheries

Just saw this on the SA fisheries website

"Further information on recreation fishing rules, regulations and closures is now also available from the SA Recreational Fishing Guide smartphone app which can be downloaded from http://www.pir.sa.gov.au/recfishingapp or by sending a text message with the name of the fish species to the SMSFishnumber 0427 767 995 to receive an immediate text response."

Good to see a few easy options to make it easy if your not sure on bag limits.

Would be good to see these sorts of things implemented in WA in the future.

Best light casting rod?

Hi all,

Looking for a spin rod for whiting on flats. I will be mainly using hard bodies (stickbaits and poppers) and occasionally soft plastics. I want a rod that can cast light lures (5 gms) a long distance. So probably something 7 foot or longer and no heavier than 1-3 kg. Budget is $400 but no need to spend that much if its not worth it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Drag maintenance?

The drag on my Penn Spin SSV7500 was starting to stick so decided to strip the drag and re grease it following instruction from the local tackle shop. Cleaned it all up and put a very light coating of Shimano drag grease on the steel washers then put it all back together. It felt heaps better just spinning it with my hand on different drag settings so headed off to the local rock wall.

First cast out, go to set the drag and it is sticky as hell! Way worse than it was before and very little if any clicking sound. It was chucking it down with rain and thinking maybe I did something wrong that allowed some water to get in there?

Could anyone give me an indication where I went wrong?

Trailcraft????

Just wondering people's knowledge on the trailcraft- 5-6.5 mtr runabouts??
