Exmouth charters
Submitted by Can't Catch on Wed, 2014-04-23 06:54Hey guys. Has anyone got any recommendations for charters up in Exmouth they've been on recently? Looking back on old posts only shows up a few of the smaller operators but i'll be needing a boat to fit around 10-20 people on. Blue horizon, Gamex, Reel teaser, Sea venture and Exmouth deep sea are a few I've found on google but no reviews.
Thanks

South West Report
Submitted by Lowza on Tue, 2014-04-22 14:04As an avid regular landbased angler I was yet to catch an Australian salmon of size. My previous PB of a pair of 1kg salmon trout in the daweville cut which was soon to be beaten!
Day 1,
My mate and I headed down to Walpole Saturday morning arriving at 1pm; we were on conspicuous beach by 1.30pm. With the massive swells and abundance of peckers 1 Kilo mulies has disappeared and so had 3 Hours.
I was ready to leave when I then decided to pull out a 3 Ounce White Richter Plug, a lure I have never used before. A mate in Perth told me to cast this out, about dozen bullet casts and I was over it again. When suddenly I noticed this torpedo shape loom up to it the wave with excitement I yell out to my mate on my left to see if he can see it by the time I turn back and I am on and the Penn Prevail is at 90degrees and the SSM V Spinfisher was singing with sounds of drag. After about 5 -10 minutes or so of some incredibly intense fighting, we beached it and it would have to be one of my best fishing moments of my life so far! After this it was to the pub for celebration bevies and double disappointment of both wa footy teams.
Day 2,
We headed to Boat Harbour, Denmark from rumours of Salmon being in abundance. We arrived there in the morning the swell was huge, police were there warning us regarding the dangers of fishing of these rocks, I proceeded to go fishing after do some assessing of the conditions the appropriate location with appropriate gear gaff/PFD/long rods.
First cast with a mulie on a 3/0 gang had me screaming for the gaff, I made the early call on salmon, however what surfaced was the last thing on my mind a big buff bream well & truly 2-3kg/60cm . I consider Buff Bream to be a shit fish but due to the sheer size I was unaware of big they grow? And fight of this fish I was rather impressed, however the camera was not on me and I wasn’t going to keep it obviously so back into the drink he went!
From then on the Skippy came on smashing full mulies, god it was a good reminder of how hard they fight I landed 4 but I dropped at least 3 not being quick enough to get them of reef I was trying hard to balance putting enough pressure on to keep them out of reef without ripping the hook’s they have such soft mouths. My mate who was with me who was new to fishing caught around half a dozen herring.
Back to conspicuous beach that arvo for final fish of the quick trip. At 5.30pm I have a massive run on a full herring I had cast out into the surf and before long I was onto yet again but this salmon was even bigger than the last every bit of 10 min fight up and down the beach and it was landed and the trip was over.
We cleaned all fish and distributed across friends & family as these fish do not keep well. I was rather impressed with the taste of salmon, prepared correctly ie.bled.
Sorry this report is a little long! and photos are kinda shitty.

Reel Service Tools help.
Submitted by exp2000 on Tue, 2014-04-22 13:55Hi.
I am down from Broome in the big smoke for a few days and would like to talk to pro reel service techs in regards to sourcing specialist tools for reel servicing.
Looking for
"strong genuine professional" dental pics,
miniature bearing pullers and
miniature circlip pliers and the like.
Does anyone know of any odd second hand or speciality shops that might stock these?
So far I have tried RC shops and Jaycar but not much luck.
I have left a message with John Devitt and am hoping he will call back.
TIA,
Brett from Broome.

Whats the best fridge freezer
Submitted by maccie on Tue, 2014-04-22 11:04Hi all.
I know there's plenty of posts on fridge freezers, this topic has probably been flogged to death. But I just want to know if these so called dual zone ones can operate as the whole unit being a fridge or the whole unit being a freezer. And if so which performs this best? Basically I want to enjoy the dual zone goodness heading up, and during fishing trips. And then be able to load it up with fillets and freeze it for the return trip. Wishful thinking yes. Any advise appreciated.

Metro Beach
Submitted by lachieH on Mon, 2014-04-21 17:55Hi everyone. After buying my first surf rod I really want to get some action. But I realised that I have got not much of an idea on where to use it and what to go for. I have heard floreat beach drain is good??? I do not have access to a 4x4.
if you have any suggestions please tell me what you will catch and how I should target them. I know some basic tailor rigs and know I should use mulies and a gang. Also know for salmon that you will catch most on lures.
the rod that I will be using is a Rovex air surf prime ASP 132. Reel is Fin-Nor Biscayne FS80 spinning reel. The mainline is 25lb mono. I will also have access to 30lb leader.

Combo help please.
Submitted by Poppy on Mon, 2014-04-21 13:55I have a couple of heavier combos which I generally use when on charters with Whitey. My main weapon is a Fin Nor Ofshore 9500 reel mounted on a 5'3" Abu Garcia 15kg rod. I've found this a bit too heavy unless I'm lucky enough to get into sizeable demersals. It's also not real flash when used for jigging. I've had a Shimano Aernos XT 8000 in my bag for a few years. It's hardly been used and only for beach fishing at that.
Question:
1. Would this reel, loaded with braid(mono at present), be suitable for bottom bouncing and if so;
2. I would like a recommendation on a suitable rod to match. Something lighter than what I have but also suitable to handle a decent size dhufish.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Abrolhos Trip
Submitted by DTrain on Sun, 2014-04-20 13:05Me and a mate are planning on heading over to the Abrolhos Islands in our 6 meter ally boat.
Depending on the weather we'll be heading across on Thursday morning and then coming back Saturday morning.
Is anyone else going over around the same time?
I would prefer it if we could tag along with another boat if anyone is going. Safetly in numbers.
This is our first trip over and we'll probably just be sticking around the southern island group. Any advise would be welcome.

Happy Pink Easter
Submitted by Mick C on Sun, 2014-04-20 11:25All,
Following on from "The Second Post - 3 Mile Experiences", we put into practice the lessons learned and picked up 10 Pinkys this morning. We kept our bag limit with fish between 580mm and 710mm, as per the attached photo - Luke got the big ones. Most on sinking pilchards in the burley trail but the biggest one was caught off the bottom. The water was fairly dirty today and that may have had something to do with it.
There was a big shark out there and it is the first time we have seen a Snook fly! He tried hard to get our Pinks but luckily his only capture was a Skippy, and the unlucky flying Snook.
Worth getting up for and missing out on the Easter Eggs. Happy Pink Easter.
Mick

Boating Accidents
Submitted by Swompa on Sun, 2014-04-20 09:06Friday had a capsize off the back of Garden Island and yesterday had another one off Rotto.
I took the wife, kid and woof down to Woodmans Point on Friday and couldn't believe how far the swell was managing to make it around the corner, and could see waves breaking inside Carnac Island. There were certainly some boomers out.
Be safe people. Be smart too! Even in 2-3m swell, waves WILL break where they don't normally break, as we have seen.

Facebook fishing busselton +sw
Submitted by Sunburntfeet on Sat, 2014-04-19 20:58Finally joined Facebook last week ( gave in to peer pressure). Joined the fishing busselton sw page, I thought this page was to help fellow fishers in the south west area. Turns out its to help out BCF. There was a post about the latest bait delivery, saying get in quick, being a long weekend mulies would likely sell out. So I posted that geographe camping just got a pallet of mulies, and if they did sell out this is where you could get some. I do work there and we are not site sponsors. Got deleted within a few hours. Do you think this is in the best interest of the sight, or am I just cut my post got deleted?
